I. Ash
I walked into the cold, educational poster clad, classroom ready for the start of a new school year. I looked around the small space to see the same classmates that I’ve seen before "Hi Ash welcome back", my teacher who taught science last year and is now my homeroom teacher for 10th grade said as I walked through the open door.  My name is Ash.  I'm skinny but not overly so.  I have light brown hair that falls in a strait wave to the bottom of my fairly tan skinned shoulder blades.  I have hazel eyes that rest on my sharply angled face.  I’m fairly tall, about 5’10’’ but I wouldn’t change anything about my lanky frame.  I weave my way through the desks to the new one that my teacher, Mr. Mountain, assigned me.  I sat at the back of a row by the right side of the class room.  I could see all the desks and names each of the students that occupied them.  Except for one boy, he sat directly across from me and down two seats. He stood out from all the rest of the students that I have known since kindergarten.  Most of them had light blond or jet black hair and tan skin. Everyone had always been the same.  But this boy didn’t seem to coordinate with the finely drawn lines of the student population. He was he was pale, but I’ve seen whiter and had short dark brown hair.  I couldn’t see his face but the way he seemed to tower over his desk made me realize that he must be tall.  "That’s Brian," I turn my head to the left to see another old classmate ,Megan.  She was one of the kids with black hair, but hers had a more of a brown tone to it.  She was also one of the most tan kids in the class. She thought she was all that and was full of herself in a way that made we want to rip her head off most of the time.  But I didn’t need any enemies here so I kept my annoyance to myself. "He's so hot! Just that look in his eyes when he looks my way" she sighs in contentment.  She turns back to me and glared. “It’s obvious that he wants me so don't even bother!”  I nodded and smiled.  I looked down at the books we were required to read for the semester.  I opened up to the first one and started reading. "Your Ash right?” Brian asked, now standing over my desk.  I didn't even notice him get up. "Yeah" I quietly answered.  His large stature was intimidating to say the least.  He was tall, I mean really tall, over 6 foot. "I'm Brian nice to meet you." he said. He then turned and walked back to his desk.  He smelled sweet. He reminded me of this cotton candy perfume that my friend Cali made me try once, but more... masculine.  I couldn’t place a name to it, but I I knew something was different about him.  He just didn’t seem normal. Being the first day of school nothing was really happening.  We met our teachers and got to catch up with old classmates that we hadn’t seen since last May.  I was listening to the chatter of some of the girls in my forth period class.  I had a good schedule this year, well, compared to other years it was.  I looked down at my time sheet one more time, even though I memorized it hours ago. Homeroom- 8:05-8:20 ......................................204, Mr. Mountain  Biology- 8:20-9:05 ............................................204, Mr. Mountain Geometry- 9:10-9:55 …...........................................360, Ms. Carter Language Arts- 10:00-10:45..........................................Mrs. Bates Language Arts- 10:50-11:35..........................................Mrs. Bates Lunch- 11:40-12:10.......................................................................... French- 12:15-1:00................................................500,Mrs. Frances World History- 1:05-1:55..............................................Mrs. Lavoie P.E.- 2:00-2:45...........................................................Coach Marik The girls gossip was a monotone of hushed voices and giggles.  Just as they were starting to get louder in their conversations the bell cut off their laughter and let us out of the clutching confines of the classroom.  I looked at the clock on the wall, 11:41.  Finally, lunch! I started the small trek from my class to the lunch room, reliving the memories of my Freshman year that were attached to the walls that I walked through.  The quite halls got gradually louder with the noise of an entire high school in conversation. I got to the cafeteria and opened the large doors. A large whoosh of air attacked me, blowing back my hair and attacking my nose with the smells of cheap food and too many bodies in one place. My eyes searched through the sea of people and spotted my best friend, Cali. As I walked across the lunch room to the table my friends and I have taken refuge at since the day we arrived in these blue locker filled halls, my eyes scanned the large hall.   My eyes automatically locked onto the face of Brian. He sat with the guys he was talking with in homeroom.  Even from a distance I could see that his eyes were black, blacker than the deepest night sky.  I was too scared to look at them when he was close, too busy with fussing with myself over his height.   I sat down with Cali and some Freshmen that seem to always follow us.  Cali started talking to me the second I was in ear shot. I didn't even glance her way, I couldn’t keep my eyes off him! I knew I probably should have listened to Cali's monologue, even if she already told me about it twice, but I couldn’t help it.  He was like a magnate to my eyes. Everything about him held my curiosity, the way he seemed to act out his tales, how he seemed to tower over the other kids, his excessive use of hot sauce. He noticed my staring and we locked eyes. Even for that little moment I knew something was different.  There was something about this kid that wasn’t normal, but I just couldn’t keep my eyes away! Lunch soon ended and Cali bounced ahead of me on her way to class.  I can’t seem to fathom the amount of energy packed into that little kid.  She was put in school a year early so she has been the baby of the class since first grade.  Her mind was as mature as any of the other kids, but her body was the give away of her age. She was only about 5’3’’ so I, and most of the other 10th graders towered over her.  She had brownish, red, blond, hair that stretched to her lower back. She had really pale skin, I mean like really pale. The vampire movies had nothing on her with their paleness.  She also had big blue eyes that never had a set tone. Sometimes they were grey and sometimes they were navy but they ranged from every color in between. She had a very unique sense of style.   If Megan put on one of Cali's normal outfits she would look like a fool, but somehow Cali always pulled it off. Today she had a dark pink top tucked into a jean colored, ruffled skirt. She had a big brown belt, an owl necklace, and brown boots.  Most of the time I swear she’s blind with all the pattern matching she does. As she jumped around she turned to me and smiled before heading back to her class.  I watched her scurry down the hall talking to random people that she didn’t know, she has a thing with that.  She has no fear and shy is not a word in her mental dictionary, unlike mine. She was an actress, being that person on your TV screen was her dream.  I on the other hand was her complete opposite. I would rather just be in the crowd rather than be what the crowd is looking at. I turned and started over to my next class.  I had French class next.
