Chapter 1: The Night I Was Rejected
Chapter 1: The Night I Was Rejected
The Silver Moon Pack had never looked more magnificent.
Moonlight poured over the towering pine trees surrounding the packhouse, painting the forest in silver. Hundreds of lanterns hung from the branches, their warm glow dancing in the cool night breeze. Music echoed across the courtyard as wolves from neighboring packs laughed, danced, and celebrated the annual Moon Blessing Ceremony.
Tonight was meant to be the happiest night of Aria Ashwood's life.
Standing before the mirror in her room, Aria gently smoothed the folds of her silver gown. Tiny crystals sewn into the fabric sparkled beneath the candlelight, making her look like she was wrapped in starlight.
Her emerald-green eyes shone with excitement.
"You look breathtaking."
Aria smiled as her best friend, Lily, stepped into the room carrying a bouquet of white moon lilies.
"You really think so?" Aria asked.
Lily laughed.
"I don't think so. I know so. Tonight Alpha Damian finally announces you as his Luna. Every wolf already knows you're his fated mate. This ceremony is just a formality."
Aria felt butterflies dance inside her stomach.
For four years she had loved Damian Blackwood.
Four years ago, under the sacred Moon Ceremony, the Moon Goddess revealed Damian as her destined mate. Since that day, she had devoted herself to helping him become the Alpha his father always dreamed he would be.
She stood beside him through every hardship.
She believed in him when others doubted him.
She loved him with everything she had.
Tonight, all those years would finally lead to this moment.
"Come on," Lily said, taking Aria's hand. "Everyone is waiting."
The grand hall overflowed with guests.
Pack elders sat proudly in the front rows while warriors lined both sides of the room wearing their ceremonial uniforms.
The moment Aria entered, conversations stopped.
"Our future Luna."
"She looks beautiful."
"Alpha Damian is lucky."
Warm smiles greeted her from every direction.
Her heart raced with happiness.
At the far end of the hall stood Damian.
Tall.
Powerful.
Dressed in black Alpha robes embroidered with silver thread.
But something immediately felt wrong.
His expression was cold.
No smile.
No warmth.
His blue eyes looked through her instead of at her.
Aria's smile slowly faded.
Maybe he was nervous.
She convinced herself that was all.
The elder stepped forward.
"Tonight," the elder announced proudly, "our Alpha will present his chosen Luna before the Silver Moon Pack."
Cheers erupted throughout the hall.
Aria walked toward Damian, expecting him to take her hand.
Instead, he stepped away from her.
Confusion spread across her face.
"Damian?"
He looked directly into her eyes.
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
"Aria Ashwood."
The room fell silent.
"I reject you as my fated mate."
Everything stopped.
Aria blinked.
She must have imagined it.
"What...?"
Her voice barely escaped her lips.
Damian repeated himself.
"I reject you."
A sharp pain exploded inside her chest.
Her breathing became ragged.
The sacred mate bond trembled violently.
"W-Why?"
Tears gathered in her eyes.
"I've done everything for you."
Damian's face remained emotionless.
"You're not strong enough to stand beside me."
The words shattered her heart.
Gasps spread through the crowd.
Aria stared at him in disbelief.
Not strong enough?
She had sacrificed everything for him.
She trained every day.
She helped rebuild the pack after his father's death.
She stood beside him through every difficult decision.
Yet he called her weak.
Then another woman walked onto the stage.
Long golden hair.
Beautiful crimson dress.
Cold, confident smile.
Selena Frost.
The daughter of Alpha Victor from the Crimson Fang Pack.
She wrapped her arm around Damian's.
The entire hall erupted in whispers.
Damian pulled Selena closer.
"I have chosen Selena Frost to become my Luna."
Aria felt her world collapse.
The elder frowned.
"But Alpha... Aria is your fated mate."
"I know."
"You cannot simply reject a blessing from the Moon Goddess."
"I choose power over destiny."
Damian looked toward the crowd.
"Our alliance with the Crimson Fang Pack will make us stronger."
He squeezed Selena's hand.
"This is the future I want."
Aria's vision blurred with tears.
So that was the truth.
It had never been about love.
It had been about power.
Lily rushed forward angrily.
"You used her!"
Damian ignored her.
Instead, he looked at Aria.
"Leave this pack."
Aria froze.
"This is my home."
"Not anymore."
Selena smiled proudly.
"Don't make this more embarrassing than it already is."
Aria looked around the room.
Every familiar face avoided her eyes.
The warriors.
The elders.
The people she had grown up with.
Nobody defended her.
Nobody spoke.
The mate bond inside her snapped.
Pain unlike anything she had ever known tore through her soul.
For a moment she thought she would collapse.
Lily caught her before she fell.
"We're leaving," Lily whispered.
Aria slowly stood on her own.
Her heart was broken.
But she refused to beg.
She lifted her head proudly.
"If rejecting me is what you truly want..."
Her voice trembled.
"...then I accept your rejection."
Damian simply nodded.
She turned around and walked toward the enormous wooden doors.
No one stopped her.
No one called her back.
Behind her, the celebration began again.
Music filled the hall.
Laughter echoed through the room.
As if she had never existed.
Outside, the cold night air struck her face.
Tears rolled silently down her cheeks as she walked deeper into the forest.
She had nowhere to go.
No family.
No home.
No mate.
Only darkness.
Hidden among the trees, a pair of glowing crimson eyes watched her every step.
Far above the mountain cliffs, a silver-haired man dressed in black royal armor stood beside an enormous black wolf.
His crimson eyes never left Aria.
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
"So..."
"I've finally found you."
The wolf lowered its head.
"My King?"
The man continued watching Aria disappear into the forest.
"No one harms her."
"From this night forward..."
"...she belongs to the Lycan Kingdom."
To Be Continued...
