Chapter 5: The Pact

She was angry. Vanessa longed to kill the warlock who had caused her so much pain. If her mother hadn't died then, she wouldn't be here now. She wouldn't have had to run away from Jake and her pack. Most importantly she would have learned how to use her powers well. However, her mother's sudden death had caused her to mature, with her maturity had come other memories she wanted to do away with. She wouldn't rest until she killed the warlock Vanessa gritted her teeth in anger. She clenched her fists on her lap. Ryan's brows creased. Had Silas murdered her mother? Why? He didn't understand the root of the matter so he couldn't judge. "You have a personal vendetta against witches or so it seems," Ryan concluded. "One of them killed my parents. Tell me why my hatred can't be justified," Vanessa shrugged. She had every reason to hate them. Until she revenged, she wouldn't stop thinking ill of them. "Well, I don't agree with you. Not all witches are bad, moreso, Silas might also have a justification," he ended it. "For killing your mother," remained on the slab of his tongue. That was a delicate topic, he wouldn't touch. It would hurt her. He had seen the angry look in her eye when she spoke of the death of her mother. She was still grieving. "Levi told me about today," Ryan gently steered the conversation. Vanessa nodded. She knew Levi would tell him. He had told her he would. Also, she had come here under Ryan's watch so he had to report whatever happened to him. It was only normal. "He told me you felt someone watching you and that you saw the handwriting on the wall too," Ryan continued. Vanessa smiled at the thought of Levi. She liked the Beta and the way he cared about her. She hoped to further their relationship by telling him things about her. She wanted to know more about him too. He noticed the way she smiles when he mentioned Levi and he frowned at it. He wondered why. For some reason, he didn't like the sight of it. Had they formed a bond that he didn't know of? What was going on? He would have to watch them closely. Ryan tapped the table to interrupt her introspection. Vanessa shook her head slightly. She was lost in her daydreaming. "I'm sorry, Yes, I felt someone watching me but I do not know who it was. I had thought it was one of Jake's minions. You never can tell what he is up to." "However, as I ran back here, I saw the writing on the wall. It said I should leave the city," she revealed. She had a good memory so she didn't forget things so easily. "You were told to leave Archwood?" Ryan quizzed It sounded somehow to him. Who could have written that and why had Levi said he didn't see it? He believed her though. Magic was rampant in Archwood so anyone could have used it to scare her away. But who? "Do you still have anything that belongs to Jake, alpha of the Velvet Moon pack?" He asked. Vanessa shook her head. "Are you sure there is nothing still tying you to the Velvet Moon Pack?" He pressed further to be sure. He had thought about what she could do while she was here because obviously she had nowhere else to go. She would be stuck here in Archwood for some time. He didn't want her to be idle. It would be to her disadvantage so he had come to a conclusion. "No there is nothing," Vanessa lied. She couldn't tell him about the secret vault. And even though he had rescued her, she still found it difficult to believe people fully. Her mother had trusted her chiefs and most of them had betrayed her and even turned their backs up on her daughter after her death when she needed them the most. She would keep the secret with her till she regained her position as the rightful Omega of the Velvet Moon Pack. Till then, the necklace would always remain on her neck. "Then there's no problem with that. You can join the Blood Moon Pack." Ryan said.
