Episode 3 Written by FARUQ HAMZAT Anna Wow. I can hardly contain my excitement! I’m about to get engaged to the richest guy in the city, William David. It doesn’t matter to me if he loves me or not; all I know is that I’ve been infatuated with him for as long as I can remember. This moment feels like a dream come true! I can’t wait to share this news with my best friend, Clara. I reached for my phone and quickly dialed her number, my heart racing with anticipation. “What’s up, babe?” I greeted as soon as she picked up. “Hey, dear!” Clara’s voice came through, warm and inviting. Clara is my closest confidante. While her family isn’t as affluent as mine, she has always been there for me, standing by my side through thick and thin. We’re both 25, and she has this gorgeous long hair that frames her face perfectly. “How are you doing?” I asked, trying to gauge her mood. “I’m good! How about you?” she replied, her curiosity evident. “Guess what!” I said, barely able to hold back my excitement. “Hmmm,” she murmured, the suspense hanging in the air. “You’re traveling out?” “Nooo,” I replied, unable to suppress my smile. “So what is it?” she pressed. “I’m getting engaged this weekend!” I announced triumphantly. “What?!” Her shock was palpable through the phone. “Yes, you heard me right!” I replied, a grin spreading across my face. “So, who’s the luckiest man on earth?” she joked, her tone playful. “Do you really want to know?” I asked, teasing her. “Yes, of course!” she urged. “Okay, he’s David William,” I revealed. “Really?” she screamed, excitement radiating through the phone. “Yes! What happened?” I asked, curious about her reaction. “I’m really happy for you, dear!” she exclaimed, genuine delight in her voice. “Thanks, girlfriend!” I said, feeling buoyed by her support. “So, when are we going shopping?” she asked eagerly. “Are you busy this noon?” I inquired. “Not at all! Should I come over, or will you come here?” she offered. “Come over, of course!” I replied enthusiastically. “Okay, ma!” she joked, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re not serious,” I teased before hanging up, feeling a rush of anticipation. A short while later, Clara arrived, and I could barely contain my excitement as she stepped into my room. “Wow, you’re looking gorgeous, babe!” she said, taking a moment to check me out. “Thanks!” I smiled, feeling flattered. “I prefer this dress,” she noted, pointing at a sleek number hanging on the rack. “Really?” I asked, surprised since we had spent over an hour searching for the perfect outfit. “Yeah, I believe everyone who sees you in this dress will fall in love with you!” she teased. “So, you mean you’ve fallen in love with me?” I joked back, laughing. “Yes! I just wish you could be my wife,” she replied, bursting into laughter with me. After our shopping spree, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal at a nearby restaurant. We indulged in delicious dishes, talking and laughing, reveling in the excitement of my upcoming engagement. Once we were finished eating, we headed back to my house. As soon as we reached my gate, I jumped out of her car, waving goodbye as she drove off into the sunset. I entered my bedroom, tossing the shopping bags aside, utterly exhausted from the day. After a refreshing cold shower, I threw on something simple and jumped onto my bed, hoping to drift off to sleep. Just as I was about to slip into dreamland, my phone buzzed, jolting me awake. Who could it be? I fumbled through the drawer to grab my phone, and when I saw the caller ID, my eyes widened in disbelief. What? William is calling me? What could he possibly want? Was he thinking about me? A rush of thoughts flooded my mind as I struggled to comprehend the significance of this call. Since we exchanged numbers, he hadn’t made any effort to reach out. Why now? Had he developed feelings for me? Before I knew it, the phone stopped ringing, and I almost felt disappointed. Just as I was about to call him back, my phone rang again. Without hesitation, I picked it up. “Hello?” I answered, my voice trembling slightly. “Hey…hello, dear,” I stammered, flustered. “What’s up?” he asked, his tone casual yet inviting. “I’m fine, and you?” I replied, trying to sound composed. “I’m good too… Are you busy?” he asked, his curiosity piqued. “No, why do you ask?” I responded. “Nothing,” he replied, but I sensed there was more to it. “Nothing?” I probed further. “Yeah… not really. I just want you to come to my place,” he said. What?! I could hardly believe my ears! Is he really asking me to come to his place? I hesitated, feeling a surge of excitement mixed with nervousness. “What did you say?” I asked, wanting to clarify. “I said I want you to come to my place,” he reiterated, his voice steady. “Why your place?” I questioned, feeling a bit overwhelmed. “Are you coming or not?” he pressed. “Can’t we just meet somewhere else?” I asked, trying to find an alternative. “If that’s what you want,” he replied, his tone shifting slightly. “Yes,” I confirmed, wanting to ensure I was comfortable. “Okay, I will send my driver to come and pick you up,” he said, and before I could respond, he hung up. Wow! I need to look more beautiful just for him. The thought of being with William sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I felt a fierce possessiveness; I could kill anyone who tried to snatch him away from me. It took me an hour to finally decide on the perfect outfit, but I was determined to impress him. The anticipation was unbearable. I couldn’t wait to see him. To be continued… Why did William want to see Anna?
