They were both seated at the dining table having dinner the next day when Alan walked into the dining room as he was heading to the kitchen.
“ Come join us, Alan. Your dinner is here." She said pointing at the food next to hers. Alan stared briefly at Harold and then back at her.
" I'd rather have mine in my room. Thanks anyway.” Harold jolted in shock as Alan responded and wasn't rude like he was. He faced his food to avoid being noticed.
“Please," Emma stressed the word as she looked at him with pursed lips and puppy eyes and this made Alan sit quietly before she could say another word that could melt him down. She danced in her seat like a kid and continued with her food.
“That's new," Harold said, playing with his food. He was surprised to see Alan go as far as obeying what Emma said. Alan ignored him and started digging into his food.
Harold took a proper look at the plaster on Emma's face from where he sat which was opposite her.
“How's your injury? Seems like you dressed it properly." Harold said with a smile and Emma's eyes lit up.
" Yeah, Alan helped me do it.” She answered and Alan found it weird to be seated there at that moment.
“Oh wow! Seems like a great guy to me.” He said sarcastically as he stared at Alan whose eyes never left his meal.

Emma and Harold walked into the house where the party was held and Emma's eyes whirled round the living room. Her gaze shifted to the elegant chandelier and the ornate furnishing which exuded an air of sophistication. It was a stunning sight to behold with its sweeping staircase and high ceilings.
“It's beautiful." She said to Harold who had his hands around her waist. They found an empty seat by the mini bar and sat there. Harold's eyes searched around the house as Emma ordered drinks for both of them.
“Are you expecting to see someone?" Emma asked as she noticed Harold. Harold saw Alan walk into the house and sighed.
“Your new favorite person made it to the party," Harold said and faced Emma who also saw Alan too. He didn't know Alan would make it as he hated gatherings like this.
‘Except he came here to work.’ Harold's phone beeped and he stared at it.
“I have to go get something, love. I'll be with you shortly." Harold said as he stood up to his feet.
" Baby, you know I can't be here alone. I don't know anyone here. You know I don't do well in crowded places.” She said all at once.
" Calm down, love. I'll be back be for you know it.” He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and walked out before she could complain any further. Emma sighed as she played with her drink.
“I'll have what she's having." She heard Alan's voice beside her and turned swiftly facing him. A smile appeared on the corner of her lips.
“So, what are you doing here alone, and where's your husband?” Emma took a sip of her drink.
“He went upstairs to meet with someone for a meeting, I guess." She said and Alan wondered if she was clueless because she wanted to be or she hadn't had her experience with men before meeting Harold.
“Was Harold your first?" He asked as he gulped down everything on the glass.
“One and only. We've loved each other since we were kids." She explained and Alan nodded.
" Well, you better go find your true love. I can't stay here for much longer. I hate these kind of gatherings.” He said with his face contorted.
“Well, I guess we share that in common." Emma smiled genuinely. It has been a while since she has been at ease, and talking with Alan makes her feel that way. They parted ways as Emma went upstairs to look for her husband and Alan headed for the door when someone stopped him.
Emma had checked three different rooms but still no sign of Harold.
‘Where could he be?’ Suddenly, she began to hear moaning from the room at the edge of the hallway and walked briskly towards it, praying it wasn't what she thought it was. She quietly opened it, and it gave a little squeak. Harold was in bed having s*x with her sister again. She ran out quietly as she blinked back the tears in her eyes so they wouldn't fall and smear her makeup. She ran downstairs and rushed towards Alan who was in the middle of a conversation with a man.
“Alan?" She called. Her voice breaking. Alan quickly faced her and moved closer to her, but still kept his boundaries.
“Please can we leave this place?" She said as her lips began to quiver. He stared at the man he was talking to.
“My apologies. Maybe some other time." He apologized and walked Emma carefully out of the house as they got into his car and drove off.

Emma stormed into the house, rushed towards the mini bar, and poured herself a glass of liquor. She gulped everything down and poured herself another glass as Alan walked up to her.
“You still haven't told me what happened." He said as he sat next to her.
“I caught him cheating, again.” She said and chuckled as she gulped the whole thing down and poured herself another glass. Alan quietly listened.
“When I caught him the first time, he told me he wouldn't cheat on me, and I didn't know what I saw. Funny how I didn't believe him. But a part of me wished I saw wrong.” Alan scoffed. Nothing was new to him. Harold had been promiscuous since he knew him. She gulped down another glass. She was already getting drunk.
“Okay. You need to stop drinking now.” He said and took the glass out of her hands. She smiled and stared at him. Alan put the glass he poured himself in his mouth.
“Alan, do you want to sleep with me?" She blurted out and Alan almost choked in his drink. He cleared his throat and attempted to take her hands but stopped himself.
“Emma you have to listen to what I'm about to tell you." He said. His eyes fixated on her. He would have wanted to do that but couldn't do it and still watch them together. All he wanted to do at the moment was help her out.
" Harold is morally corrupted and someone has to put him in order.” He started, and Emma, who was just rejected, focused on what he had to say if it would help her and her marriage.
“You're going to have to confront him without giving him room to lie to your face again." He said and Emma sighed. She wasn't the type of person to prolong an issue. She would rather agree with someone so peace could reign than keep arguing to see the end of an issue. This was going to be hard for her.
It was morning already, and Harold quietly entered the room to meet Emma, staring at him with anger in her eyes. He ignored the look and pulled his suit off leaving his shirt on.
“I'm sorry, love. I was being held up in a meeting."He explained, walked up to her, and attempted to kiss her when she took a few steps backward.
" Did you wash your cheating self before coming back home?” She half yelled and Harold furrowed his brows at her. She had prepared everything she was going to say to him.
“Wait a minute. Why are you raising your voice at me?" He stared daggers at her as his heart rate became faster than normal. Emma noticed his look but ignored it. She chuckled.
“You're avoiding my question. Why am I not surprised?” She had always seen this in him but didn't know it would be a problem in their marriage. Harold tried to speak but she cut him off.
“You know what? I can't even look at you right now.” She said and attempted to leave when Harold grabbed her and pushed her hard against the wall.
“Listen to me. I am your husband and you'll speak to me with respect, you get that? Don't you ever raise your voice at me again?” He said as his grip tightened against Emma's arms.
" Harold, you're hurting me.” She winced in pain as a tear escaped her eyes. He released her and she stormed out of the room. Harold realized what he had done and ran after her.
“Emma, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have done that.” He apologized while she was running down the stairs and, on reaching her, grabbed her to face him while she backed down the stairs.
“Let me go, Harold I can't even look at you right now. You're not a man. I must have made a big mistake coming into this marriage." She said all at once as tears fell uncontrollably down her cheeks. She tried to release herself from Harold's grip but it was all to no avail. He chuckled.
“Emma, take that back." Emma looked up at him with her teary eyes and saw the burning rage in his eyes. For the first time in her life, she wanted to go against someone.
“No.” She said firmly.
" How dare you.” He said as he pushed her and regretted immediately as he saw her rolling down the stairs.

Emma slowly opened her eyes in the hospital bed and sighted Harold next to her.
“What happened?" She asked softly as she was too weak to talk.
“It was an accident, love. We were talking on the stairs, and then you tripped. I tried to catch you, and you fell." He explained with guilt in his eyes.
" But you're fine now, I promise." He added. A tear rolled down Emma's eyes and he wiped it.
“Repeat after me. I tripped,"
“I tripped,"
“And fell,"
“And fell,"
“My husband's helping me."
“My husband's helping me." She repeated and sighed.
" Thank you, baby.” She said softly and he smiled as she was back to obeying him.
