POLICE REPORT
Rafael’s heart clenched as he threw open the door, his body quivering as he raced to Daniela. She dropped to her knees, arms over her head. The car stopped within inches of her, then suddenly reversed off the driveway and sped away.
Rafael dropped beside Daniela and wrapped his arms around her, lifting her face to his. “Dear lord, Daniela. Are you okay?” His hands traced her cheeks, the corners of her eyes, and her scalp. “Are you hurt? Talk to me.”
She shook her head, her hands shaking in his hand. “I’m fine. Just scraped knees, that’s all.”
He helped her stand as the front door light came on and Blanca rushed out, wearing a dressing gown. “What in blazes happened? Daniela?”
