I stared out through the window, trying to ignore the soft body leaning on mine. Her rose scent made my chest tightened, and I resisted the urge to turn her around and kiss her till she was out of breath.
My wolf jumped, and struggled to break free. And while I was torn between the internal battle between me and my wolf, and the scent beside me, I couldn't help stealing glances at Nami, when she wasn't looking.
We were driving to school, and the one hour drive suddenly seemed like forever.
“Three classes,” She mumbled, beside me, and I started.
“Pardon?” I turned towards her. She raised her head from my shoulder, and leaned against the passenger seat.
“We have three classes. You guys should pick me up, early.” She drawled, with a small laugh.
I bet she had no idea what her smile and innocent words were doing to me. Doing to my body.
“Sure.” Rowan replied, his eyes glued on the road.
Luna Gloria, our mother, had insisted our driver take us to school. But our argument won in the end. We could drive ourselves.
Logan was strangely quiet throughout the ride. He was hitherto the noisy one. Speaking of which, I needed to have a long talk with him, later on.
I'd caught him staring at Nami during breakfast, with a heated gaze. I'd known my brother long enough to know what he's thinking. And I couldn't deny that I felt the same way. I f*****g did.
We can't have Nami thinking of us as brothers with twisted thoughts. Or worse, avoiding us. The thought of it made my heart clench, and I suddenly found it hard to breathe.
The thought of Nami hating us, made my chest hurt. I balled my hands into fists, and placed it on my lap.
“And you shouldn't talk to any boy.” The words were out before I could stop myself.
Silence reigned in the car temporarily, before Nami broke it with a short laugh.
“Hey, are you being an overprotective bear?” She asked in between giggles.
My heart lightened at the genuine smile on her face, and I couldn't help smiling.
She was probably the only one who could effortlessly make me smile.
“Call it whatever. You're our sister, and I haven't seen anyone deserving enough to talk to you.” I shrugged.
Except us.
I caught Rowan looking at me through the rear view mirror, and I looked away. The air suddenly seemed stuffy, and hotter. I adjusted my shirt, and swallowed hard.
“Overprotective, much.” She giggled, and adjusted her position.
If only she knew. If only she knew that she was our mate.
“We are here.” Rowan announced, as he drove our car into the school's driveway.
Stares and looks of admiration -mainly from the ladies, greeted us, as we piled out of the car. When I caught a guy staring at Nami, I couldn't help but cross an arm over her shoulder. An overprotective growl escaped my throat, as I glared at him.
He dipped his gaze. I looked beside me, at Nami who had an uncomfortable look on her face.
I pulled my hand away, and cleared my throat. Rowan and Logan were already walking towards the school's entrance.
“What time are we picking you up?” I asked in an attempt to break the tense filled silence between us.
“Two pm. Unfortunately, I can't have lunch with you guys today. I'd be studying with Troy.”
Jealousy tightened my chest, at the mention of a guy's name from her mouth. She shouldn't be associating with other guys. She belonged to us, and us alone.
“Who's Troy?” I couldn't help but ask. We climbed the staircase, walking through the doors that led into the school.
She didn't look up at me, but continued walking instead. Her black hair was held up in a bun, leaving her neck bare. Her white milky skin shone, and it was all it took, to keep me from stabbing at the eyes of the guys who leered at her, as we walked.
I looked up, as we drew close to her class.
“Troy is my classmate. I thought you knew him.” She frowned, as she paused to face me.
I didn't. And I didn't want to.
“See you at two.” She hugged me quickly. It was barely a hug, since I didn't get to savor the feeling. She then pushed the door to her class open, and strolled in.
Her scent lingered around me for a while, as I hurried to catch up with my brothers.
“We need to talk.” I said, pushing my hands into my pocket, as I looked at Logan.
He visibly froze, but it was only momentarily. He resumed walking, like he hadn't heard me.
“If this is about what I think it is, save your breath.” He murmured.
“We can't scare her away, Logan.” I subconsciously lowered my voice, not wanting the loitering students to catch on our conversation.
“I'm not scaring her away.” He retorted.
“The way you looked at her, during breakfast. We agreed not to-” I was saying, when he caught me off.
“We are all guilty of that, for goddess' sake. Spare me the long talk.” He said, irritably.
Rowan, who was silent all along, suddenly turned as we rounded a corner. He ruffled his hair as he usually did, whenever he was upset about something.
His gaze alternated between myself and Logan. And then he let out a sigh.
“We don't have to be at loggerheads, because of this. She isn't scared of us, and we know that.” He said, his green eyes staring straight at me. He leaned against the nearby wall, while Logan looked at me with a fury filled face.
“No. But she'd soon be.” I murmured, and walked away, leaving them standing there.
I was angry. But not at them. More at the fact that she was our mate, yet we couldn't touch her. At the fact that I couldn't touch her, even though I wanted to.
Fuck.
