Chapter Five: Immortal Secret

1046 Words
It was a happy time after their wedding until the day that Bastet came home to find Radames on his knees in chains and her father's guards surrounding him. Her father sat with an irritated yet haughty look on his face. Bastet looked at him the anger showing clearly on her face. “Let him go.” Bastet says her eyes full of fire. “You know I can’t do that, after all he kidnapped the princess of Egypt. You and I both know what the penalty is.” The Pharaoh tells her. He was going to teach her a lesson even if it meant breaking her heart. Bastet glared at him. “So, you would be foolish enough father, to anger the gods by killing my husband the prince of Egypt who the Goddess Bastet married and bound together as one?” She asks him. It was one thing to try and control her it was a whole different thing to anger the gods. Her father sat there thinking for a long moment and then he spoke. “Well, I'll find out, if I kill him and they punish me then I guess we will know, if I live well, I guess your union wasn't blessed at all.” He looked at the guards, “Take him to the dungeons and escort the princess home.” The guards gave Bastet an apologetic look as they dragged her and Radames away. Her eyes were burning with tears and anger. She prayed to all the gods and goddesses hoping they would hear her plea. After the long journey home, she was taken to her room where a hot bath and clean clothes were waiting for her. She bathed and dressed and then waited. Her mother came into her room and put her arms around Bastet. Bastet began to cry as her mother gently rubbed her back. “It will be okay my child, your father is hardheaded sometimes, but I have a feeling he’s about to be taught a lesson. I may not have agreed with it at first, but if the Goddess and Gods have truly blessed your union then I agree with it. Don't fear for Radames, if he is blessed by the gods, they will protect him from harm.” Bastet gave a single nod. She knew her mother was right, if it were meant to be the gods would protect him. Her father did not take long at all he called for Bastet early the next morning to come to the throne room. Bastet came in looking as regal as she could. She sat in her chair not stopping to give her father the usual bow of respect. She heard her father give an irritated sound. “Bring in the prisoner, it's time for his judgement.” Bastet could hear the smile in her father's voice, and she wanted to turn around and throw something at him, but she kept her expression the same. No smile just a serious look. Radames was brought into the room still in chairs. He kept his eyes on Bastet the entire time. She gave him a small smile and he knew they both knew it would be okay. Her father was even more annoyed, “You all know the penalty for kidnapping the princess is death, so die he must. Executioner do your job.” The Pharaoh commanded. The executioner bowed and approached Radames who still had not taken his eyes off Bastet. The executioner came up to him, the guards stood Radames up and held him in place. The executioner stood in front of Radames, he took his sword and ran it through Radames heart. There was a groan and Radames hit the floor, he inhaled and his hands were released by the guards. Radames pulled the sword out and gasped for air. Bastet was trying not to let the tears fall. But then it happened, Radames chest healed and he stood up as if nothing had happened. The Pharaoh was full of fear, and he knew he had messed up. Bastet got up and ran to Radames throwing her arms around him and kissing him. Radames held her close and he knew it was time to tell her the truth about who his family was and what he really was. The Pharaoh stood up and began to descend the few steps. He got halfway down the stairs and then it happened. Lightning came down from the sky and struck him down. Bastet turned and looked and she felt nothing as lightning continued to strike her father until there was nothing left but ash. Bastet took Radames hand and led him to his chair, then she went and sat on her father's throne. “The Gods and Goddesses have spoken and have made it clear my union with Radames is meant to be. That being said, the Gods and Goddesses have punished my father. Now it is my time.” The gaurds all bowed to her and her mother spoke, “We will officially pass the crown to the Princess Bastet in a weeks’ time. For now, we shall celebrate the marriage of Princess Bastet and Radames. We shall have a big celebration tonight and celebrate their union.” Bastet's mother gently grabbed her hand and squeezed it. Bastet smiled and waved her hand excusing everyone. She and Radames got up and went into her room. They relaxed and laid there for a long time. The celebration that night was fun and exciting. They celebrated their marriage and it was a wonderful time. But when the night came to an end and Bastet lay next to Radames he told her his secret. “There's something I have to tell you about myself.” Radames says to her. Bastet looks at him, “What is it?” She asks. Radames looks at her, “My father is not human, he is the dark god Anubis. I am immortal I cannot die. That's why I didn't die when your father tried to kill me.” Bastet was quiet for a while and then she says, “IT doesn't matter, I love you and that's all that matters.” They fell asleep with a whole new look on life...
