She entered his world as prey. Now, she’s learning to bite back.

After her mother’s death, Annabelle Gracia seeks fragile solace in the flower shop—until her father trades her to Antonioni D’Angélo, the ruthless mafia billionaire known as The Shadow King. Nights with him burn with pain, pleasure, and control. His coldness shields a heart hunted by a dangerous fraternity, one that will not forgive tenderness—love is a risk he cannot afford. Yet desire refuses to be silenced. In their world, love is weakness, and weakness could destroy them both.

Antonioni is not just another mafia heir; he is a force who commands the world’s shadows. Beyond the empire most will never see: high-stakes deals in European marketplaces, clandestine arms trades, and the quiet power of a man who moves money, influence, and danger across continents.

Once fragile, she rises. No longer a pawn, she becomes his fiercest ally and mafia queen, his quiet hope. But betrayal is never far, and enemies wait in the shadows. When Nora, the daughter of one of their deadliest rivals, enters their world, alliances shatter, and danger multiplies.

In a world ruled by secrets and scars, can love save them… or destroy them?

Chapter One The Retrieval: Fire At Dock Twelve
Nobody's POV In the basement, the Shadows loaded their guns, put on some gloves, and protected their heads, bodies, and legs. And they were very much ready for movement. The time was 4:32pm. They headed out, driving speedily on the highways like they owned the town. Of course they did. The two huge lorries followed the SUVs. When they got to Dock Twelve, the yard appeared deadened with silence. They say silence is the calm before the storm. But in the world of Shadows, silence usually means someone’s already dead, or about to be. When they stepped into the warehouse at Dock Twelve, the stink of ambush was heavy in the air. Diesel. Gun oil. Sweaty nerves. And betrayal. “Place looks dead,” Milo said, peering out from the SUV as they parked behind a stack of old shipping containers. “It’s not,” Antonioni replied calmly, stepping out of the vehicle. “They’re in there. Snakes always hide in silence before they bite.” He adjusted his black gloves slowly, deliberately. The cold metal Glock on his hip was firm, very comforting. Diego was the first to head forward, bringing out his pistol from his waistband and clicking the safety off. “Let’s do this real quick. I ain’t here to negotiate.” They advanced with military precision, Antonioni in front, Bukky flanking left, Diego to the right, and Milo hanging slightly back, fingers tapping nervously against the tablet synced to nearby CCTV blind spots. They slipped through the broken gate, boots noiseless on the gravel. Inside the warehouse, human shadows danced under hanging lights, swaying like swings over unpacked crates. Antonioni's eyes scanned the room with trained ease. Then, a voice echoed from the rafters. “Well, well... If it ain’t the Shadow King himself.” Lorenzo. He was already waiting, leaning on a stack of Antonioni’s stolen crates like he was posing for a magazine cover. His coat flared slightly with the breeze that slipped through broken vents. Behind him stood a line of Vipers, armed, cocky, and clearly itching for blood. Maybe ten of them. Maybe more. Antonioni had counted them fast. He always counts fast. “You've got nerve showing up here, King,” Lorenzo said, arms spread like he was greeting a guest, not an enemy. “I ought to charge you interest for the delay, old friend.” Old friend. Antonioni nearly laughed. “Didn’t realize we were exchanging hugs now,” Antonioni said, stepping forward, flanked by Diego, Bukky, and Milo. Their Shadows fanned out quietly behind the scenes, behind them. Twenty men deep. Silent, loyal, lethal. Antonioni didn’t stop walking until there were only ten feet between them. “I came for my shipment,” He added flatly. “I didn’t come to dance.” Lorenzo smiled wickedly. “You want your crates, you pay the debt. You think I forgot Naples? You owe me, remember?” “I owe you nothing,” Antonioni replied. “You left three of my boys to rot in a meat freezer. You sold us out to the Russo Cartel.” “You refused to pay me what you owed me and that's why I left and sold your ass! That’s business, King. You of all people should know how this works.” “No,” Antonioni said, stepping even closer now, “you don’t get to call it business when it’s betrayal. I don't owe.” Lorenzo’s smile faded. His hand twitched near his belt, but Antonioni didn’t flinch. Bukky stepped forward, voice sharp. “We’re taking the shipment. Whether your mouth agrees or not.” That’s when Scales stepped from behind him, bulky, red-eyed, already twitching like he needed someone to hit. His voice boomed: “Touch one crate… I swear, I’ll light this whole place up! You're just an exaggerated good-for-nothing fellow, Antonioni. And very soon we'll send you down the drains.” Diego balled his right fist in anger. He wanted to swing at Scales, but Antonioni signaled him not to. Antonioni didn’t flinch. He just gave Scales a calm, thin smile. “You talk like you own the streets, Scales,” Antonioni said. “But this is my city. My shadow covers it all.” And then it happened. One of his boys flinched. Diego saw it. Before Antonioni could even speak again, steel erupted, guns drawn. Shadows all came out from their hideout, and they outnumbered Vipers. One Viper threw the first punch, locking a Shadow into a corner of violence. Before one could say “Jack,” muzzle flashes painted the warehouse in a violent light. Glass shattered. A scream rang out. Milo dropped one of the Vipers with a clean shot through the neck. Bukky ducked behind a forklift and returned fire, barking curses in Spanish as he clipped two more. “Cover right!” The Shadow King yelled, diving low. The fight was brutal, quick, but the Shadows were built for this. Shadows don’t blink. They don’t panic. And then, like thunder rolling in, their secret roared to life. Antonioni signaled. A whistling whine pierced the air thickly. From behind a metal crate, one of his boys hoisted it, and two controlled it from their ends. They formed a triangular-like shape to execute it: the new baby. X-16 Pulse Retreater. Straight from Eastern Europe. Prototype level. High rate, low trace. Every Shadow knew exactly when to move away. They had been well trained. The Vipers froze for just a second too long. The Shadows lit them up. The pulse shots were clean—no excess fire, just sheer impact force. Men flew backward like rag dolls. Crates cracked open under the blast. A few Vipers tossed down their guns and ran. Lorenzo? He ran too. He didn’t shout. Didn’t wave. Just turned and bolted toward the far end of the warehouse like hell had opened up behind him. And maybe it had. “Go!” Antonioni barked. Three of the Shadows peeled off and chased him into the dark. The Shadow King didn’t bother yelling. If they caught him, they’d bring him his head. If they didn’t, he’d live with fear clinging to his skin like sweat. “Load the crates!” Antonioni shouted next. Diego and Bukky were already waving in the lorries. Two big black beasts roared outside, engines humming low. Within minutes, crates were moving. Hands gripped steel. Wheels rolled. The operation was gracefully done, and they were headed back. The treasure warehouse was the fallback zone—private, clean, untouchable. Everything would disappear there, like smoke through a vent. Antonioni turned one last time, staring into the warehouse bathed in smoke and spilled blood. A few of his wounded boys were being lifted. The Vipers who stayed down… stayed down for good. No speeches. No mercy. Just the Shadows doing what they do best.
