The Alpha's Disappointment

1301 Words
Caspian I banged my fist on the steering wheel, the impact causing my horn to flare loudly—which in turn, caused the car in front of me to move out of the way as I speedily pulled out of traffic. At this point, I didn’t care if I broke traffic rules, I just wanted to go home. The thief could do as they wished with the wallet. "Get out of my way if you're not ready to move. What kind of drivers are these? Who gave you that car?" I yelled to no one in particular before giving myself a silent warning. This isn't me. I’m really not one who yells except when I’m on edge. I was beyond pissed, and the time I was spending in this traffic wasn't helping at all. I just wanted to be back in the familiar surroundings of my home and pretend that all of this was just a dream, and that everything that happened today never happened, especially the last incident. My free hand dug into my hair as I turned my car down the road that lead to my pack, and in less than thirty minutes, the pack house was in view, bearing a regal look as it stood tall against the nightly sky. Once past the gargantuan yet homely gates, I drove into the parking lot and killed the engine of the car close to Jeff's. It was getting dark, and I was stressed—more mentally than physically. "Welcome Alpha," Princess's nanny greeted respectfully with a bow as she stole out of the house on tiptoe. "Thank you, Nana. How's Princess?" I asked her while walking to the refrigerator to grab myself a bottle of water. "She's asleep. She was waiting for you and fell asleep in the process." She said, causing me to smile. The image of Princess waiting for me that came in my head was adorable. She brings joy to my heart without even trying to. "Thank you, Nana. You should go to bed too, you must be tired now." I said, taking a gulp. "I will, Alpha. Goodnight," she said, and with one last bow left me standing alone in the sitting room. I thought of how the usually busy place during the day now had a dead look now that everyone had gone to sleep as I sat down in my favourite sofa and bent my head, recalling everything that had happened today—from the charity program and how everyone tried to contribute to it to the thieving girl, and weirdly, my mate. The person who tried to steal from me today was my mate! I feel betrayed by the Moon Goddess, in all honesty. Yet, I couldn’t deny the fact that she was my mate. It was because of her presence that I couldn’t control my heartbeat. It was also why my wolf became excited and at that, so suddenly. And I don’t even want to remember how I admired her despite the situation we were in. It made me angry at myself for finding her attractive. “She’s our mate, Caspian. We have to find her.” My wolf whined inside my head. I could feel him being restless as I thought about her. By the thoughts of a despicable thief. “It’s not that simple.” I yelled back at him and shut him out. I groaned, knowing that every wolf deserves to be with their mate, but our case seems to be different and a difficult one to deal with. "Bad day?" A voice spoke, which I recognized to belong to my Beta. When I looked up to see who it was, Jeff stood looking at me with his hands in his pocket. Known to be a night person, going to bed early is just not his thing. In fact, it was even known that the best time to even make Jeff do anything effectively was at night, a testament of how nocturnal he was. A true Night Wolf. "The worst." I replied. "Come on... it can't be that bad." He said, taking the seat opposite me. "Trust me Jeff, it is." “Care to share?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “I can’t even believe this Jeff. Why does this have to happen this way?” His initial reply was a blank look, obviously lost. “I have no idea of what you’re saying Caspian. What happened today or are you going crazy?" “Shut up Jeff. I’m not crazy. Are you calling your Alpha a crazy person? Do you think I don’t know what I’m saying?” I knew he was trying to joke around, but I was in no mood for jokes, and he would know. My voice had gone up an octave, alerting him to the fact that whatever this was, was serious. “Okay! Calm down Caspian! I’m sorry. But you could also stop bickering and talk.” “Fine. I met my mate today.” I heaved a sigh. “Oookay! Great news! But that can’t be the reason you’re acting this way.” “She tried to steal from me... No... she stole from me, and did it successfully because I couldn’t get my wallet back, as staring into her eyes kept me frozen." Thinking about it again made me groan, as the memory of how adorable those eyes were staring back at mine resurged. “Woah!!!” Jeff exclaimed with wide eyes. “Your mate is a …” “Thief. Yes, Jeff.” I finished for him. “I would say a pickpocket.” He corrected. “A thief, a pickpocket, Aren't they are all the same thing, Jeff?” “I think calling her a thief is harsher.” “Is that all you have to say? I’m having a mental breakdown here.” “Alright! You have to calm down Caspian. It’s not the end of the world. Do you know anything about her? Maybe her name, address or... anything?” “I know nothing. I don’t even think I even ever want to see her again. She kicked me down there and ran off.” Jeff roared with laughter at this, which I found amusing in the least. It was even so annoying that I glared at him to shut him up, and his laughter came to a slow stop. After that, he cleared his throat and continued. "What do you plan to do now?" He asked in a serious tone. "I'd reject her." I said as the thought came to me. “Caspian!!!” He called. “What?” I asked. “That's a harsh decision for a person you just met and haven't judged yet, you know?” He pointed out. “I can’t do this Jeff, can't you see? I can’t have someone like her for a mate.” “Why? Because you’re so perfect?” “You know that’s not why. I never said I was perfect.” “Come on, Caspian. You know nothing about this girl, not even the tiniest detail about her... not even her name. How are you supposed to reject her without calling out her full name, dear Alpha?” “Jeff, you're not helping.” "You're about to take a harsh decision.” “It's worth it.” I completed. “No, it's not. There are better ways to go about things like that.” “I will reject her and there's nothing anyone can do about it, not even you.” I declared, finishing with a tone of finality. Standing up, I headed for my room, leaving Jeff all by himself. Rejecting one’s mate may come with a lot of pain and discomfort, but I’m willing to do what it takes. I have to.
