Forsaken
Dimitri’s sight was blurry. He heaved a cold breath as he remembered the sights of his family, friends and the enchanting city or what it used to be. All of it gone just like that why was he spared, or maybe he wasn’t? Darkness covered Dimitri’s figure. It wasn’t enteral darkness that would slowly consume his essence till his last breath, it was just a darker variant of the shadows he was used to ever since the end of his city. Darkness a faithful reminder of his failures as the kin of the Divine Inquisitor. As his thoughts wandered he looked at the world as it is. The cities humanity once thrived in vanquished in a whim. “Those ghouls.” Dimitri sneered. He dared not say their names for the first command deeply etched in his heart quoted, “Thou shan’t declare thy name in vain.” In short blasphemy might make him an enemy of the gods. The ones who forsook humanity. Dimitri silently observed his surroundings. A caves in building became his abode. The city was shrouded in enteral darkness allowing creatures of all sorts to roam free onto the world. Such creatures would be dealt with by “Inquisitors” but they all died during the dawn cataclysm. Those who survived chose hiding fighting not for others but themselves. Though selfish it was understandable. In his cave Dimitri had a stockpile of supplies. It would last him a week if he rationed well but if not maybe three days. “So one week left to live,”said Dimitri as he mocked his existence. Maintaining his vigilance Dimitri gazed upon his darkened surroundings. After confirming his safety he thought of preparing meal. The left overs of his rye bread and a lump of monster meat were his dishes of the day. As for were he got the ingredients the bread was “borrowed” from a dying man and the monster meat from a carcass. Dimitri took out his pan and started a fire with some left over wood he collected from the eastern district’s battlegrounds. With a trusty flint and a flick of his wrist embers ignited the dry veneer wood. Sparks rose their luminescence shining brightly upon Dimitri’s face revealing his features. Dimitri was a young man with handsome features his eyes were of a darker shade of brown and one would assume that they were black. His jawline was angular and he had high cheekbones his hair though flaky from the mistreatments fluttered smoothly with the air. He had a lean body a characteristic gained from his father but held a domineering presence. The flares of the flame made him rejoice though joy seemed to be lacking in the better part of his days. He dropped the piece of dry meat and poured a tad bit of water to soften the meal he added some stolen spice onto the water as he remembered his encounters with the second lucky survivor. Maybe he was not since he died anyway but he was lucky to survive till that day, only to get his skull nibbled by a terror. As soon as the meat boiled Dimitri took off the pan from the heat and put off the charred wood saving it for a better day. With a bit of spice the meal actually tasted good though he had to eat it from the “pot”. The meat was tender and the bread acted as a sponge letting all the flavors freely fill his mouth. It was better than anything he had tasted a couple of days. His lips curled up as he finished his meal satisfied with the outcome. Soon after he prepared to sleep. Though there was no day he still needed to sleep. Before doing so he confirmed his safety through his self-made protocols. First he confirmed his food rations, second he prepared his makeshift blade thirdly incase of any disaster he prepared an escape route and a murderous trap, “a wall filled with blades.” Putting hope in his preparations he gave in to sleep with his blade at hand and his bag fully packed ready for any escape.
