~IVY
“Are you sure you want to do this, Ivy?” Ethan asked after the call I had just made.
I guess he never expected me to make a phone call that would cause all the gross profit of Landings Group to disappear.
“I’ve never been this sure in my life, Ethan!” I replied, my face stern, without the slightest hint of joy. “I have so much faith that this plan will work, and Cameil is going to get more than she bargained for at the announcement party!”
Ethan walked closer to me and gently took my hands in his.
As he raised my hand closer to his face, I suddenly froze.
I don't know why, but my heart began beating faster.
“I’ve always known you as a very soft lady, Ivy,” he said. “But I never knew you could be this cruel…”
His words immediately made me more curious than concerned.
“I don’t understand, Ethan.”
He chuckled softly.
“I’ve never seen you this determined or ruthless in my life, Ivy. We’ve known each other for over twenty years, and I never got to see this side of you.”
“I understand what you’re trying to say, Ethan, but you can’t deny that I told you from the beginning that I was embarking on a merciless journey…”
I tried to cut him off, but Ethan quickly interrupted me.
“I made a promise to stand by you in this fight, Ivy, and I’m still keeping that promise.”
“So what’s with the sudden change in your tone?” I asked, pulling my hand away from his grip.
“Nothing changed about my tone, Ivy. All I wanted to say is that I’m happy with the person you’ve become.”
He tried to get me to look at him again.
“You’re no longer the soft and emotional Ivy I used to know.”
He paused before continuing.
“I must say, this battle has only just begun, and I’ll make sure we fight it to the very end!”
His words slowly softened the anger in my heart.
“I’ll fight with you, Ivy. From this very beginning until the final end.”
He gave me a caring look.
As Ethan said those words, I couldn’t help but smile.
I don't know if he had some sort of charm that could capture my soft side, but for a moment, I felt as though I was close to someone who truly understood me.
It reminded me of the way Lysander had spoken to me on the night we became intimate.
And now, another man was speaking to me in almost the same tone.
But remembering that I had been deceived by words like these before, I immediately wiped the smile from my face and took a step away from Ethan.
“I understand and appreciate your concern for me, Ethan. But I hope you understand that I’m not doing any of this to repay you for your gesture.”
“I’m doing this for Grandpa Charles!”
My voice became firm.
“I know how much he loves you, and I also know how painful it feels to be betrayed, especially by those BASTARDS…”
Ethan paused and turned his face toward me.
“That’s the reason I’m doing all of this for you. I’m not doing it because I expect a favor from you later. I’m doing it for you and your grandfather.”
“Excuse me.”
I turned around and walked out of the room.
I needed some time alone to rethink everything.
I needed to clear my mind because Ethan had just reminded me of the worst night of my life.
When I arrived at the garden, I finally allowed my tears to fall.
I cried silently as memories of the past came rushing back.
I remembered the day the doctor delivered the news of my pregnancy.
Back then, I had believed that my unborn child would change the status of Lysander and me.
I thought my little boy would somehow bring happiness back into our marriage.
But my poor son never got the chance.
He died as a victim of domestic abuse.
The moment I remembered how Mrs. Karen had told me that my little boy was gone, I immediately wiped away my tears.
I clenched my teeth and forced myself to stop making a sound.
I had made a vow.
I would never become the weak Ivy they used to know again.
And I would make sure I fulfilled my promise.
Crying would never bring my baby back.
Crying would only make me weak.
Never again.
Instead, I should rejoice because I was about to destroy the relationship between Cameil and Lysander.
My phone suddenly beeped, jolting me out of my vengeful thoughts.
I checked the screen and saw a notification from my agent, Cooper.
I opened the message.
«“The algorithm has completely disappeared, and all the gross and net profit of Landings Group has disappeared as well. That’s not all. I’ve also made it possible for the team to review everything carefully and trace the entire situation back to Cameil. She’ll be blamed for the shutdown of the gross and net profit. Eventually, everyone will learn the truth about her fake identity!”»
As I read the message, a hostile smile instantly appeared on my face.
I opened the keyboard and typed:
“Well done, Cooper. I want you to stop this news from reaching them until I give you permission to release it.”
His response came almost immediately.
“Yes, Ma’am!”
I smiled and locked my phone.
“It’s game time,” I whispered to myself.
I returned to my room and picked out the best outfit I had.
It was worth over $3 million.
Tonight was definitely going to be mind-blowing, and I couldn't afford to miss it.
“We’re here, Ma’am!”
The driver’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
The car came to a stop.
It was a shame that Ethan wasn’t available to accompany me.
Perhaps he was still upset about the way I had spoken to him earlier.
But I didn’t care.
In a way, his absence would help me stay clear of men and their hideous ways.
It didn’t matter who Ethan was.
What mattered was that he was a man.
And men were never to be trusted.
I stepped out of the car and walked toward the villa.
However, just as I was about to enter, a security guard stepped in front of me.
“Where is your invitation card?”
I didn’t want to cause a fuss, so I immediately raised my invitation card for him to see.
I attempted to walk inside, but he stopped me again.
“I’m sorry, Miss Ivy, but you’re not welcome at this party.”
He shut the door in front of me.
“Excuse me?”
I yelled angrily.
“Do you want to get your ass fired from here?”
I stepped closer to him.
“Wait, do you even know who I am?”
The guard didn't even flinch.
“I don’t give a damn who you are or what you stand for. I’m following strict orders, and one of those orders is to never allow a woman called Ivy Moore into this villa.”
“And who gave you such a useless order?” I asked rudely.
Before the guard could respond, a voice came from behind me.
“I gave him the order.”
I instantly turned around.
“I gave him the order not to allow such a poor and BARREN SHE-GOAT into my villa!”
My eyes widened.
Standing behind me was Gloria, Cameil’s mother.
She stared at me with a mocking smile.
“Why are you staring at me as though you’re capable of killing me?” she asked sarcastically.
She crossed her arms.
“You’re not allowed at this event, and that’s final!”
