The start of many things

1251 Words
A middle aged woman was packing down some boxes. She was putting in some photo albums and mementos like an old teddy bear and diplomas. Some had 1st place in bold letters, others had names of universities with degrees and titles. As she was finishing boxing a middle aged man walked into the bedroom. He took a little glance over the pink room with kid furniture, the faded wallpaper was a reminder of how color clashing the 90ties was. He smiled at the woman and went over to her, grabbing her waist from behind. He gave her a hug from behind, taking in her familiar scent. “Are you packing it away honey? Is it going to the basement?” The woman turned her head a bit to meet his his gaze, she tilted her head so she could get a better look at him and smiled at him. He was still holding around her waist from behind. “No dear, Luna wanted us to send her some stuff to an address. It’s not to her apartment so I don’t really know what she’s doing with it.” The man gave a short nod “who knows with Luna?” then he snorted a bit at that. The woman giggled a bit and made a drawn out oooh sound. “I given up trying to understand her many years ago. I guess I never should have worried about her, she always went head first into any obstacle and fixed things. Never asked for help, never needed it.” Both sighed at that. A silent pause as the couple was swaying gently in their embrace. The man broke the silence by first kissing her on the side of her neck “do you need help taking it to the post office?” “No dear, Luna has a delivery company come to pick it up, so I don’t have to do it myself.” The man chuckled “Our daughter is fancy.” They both laughed. They spent some more time just swaying together while looking around in the old bedroom gathering mental memories. The man put his chin onto her shoulder and sighed as he took in all the nostalgia.  On a flight towards an exotic destination sat T in first class. She had a whole seat to herself private from the other passengers. She could lean the seat all the way down to rest if she wanted. A flight attendant walked by with a bottle of champagne and refilled her glass. T mouthed thank you to the attendant. A man in his 40ties was sitting opposite to T half a row over. If he leaned forward he could get her attention and talk to her. He eyed her a bit before he talked to her “you traveling alone?” T nodded at that and gave him a friendly smile. He didn’t seem to want to stop at that, he leaned forward just a little bit more “It’s not an usual destination to be traveling to all alone.” He was fishing for information and T didn’t seem to be in the right mood to keeping the conversation up “I’m meeting someone there.” She gave as little as information as possible at each answer. “Oh” the man simply answered with a quizzical look. T sighed then leaned forward to meet the man for a more private conversation “Well, I won these ticket’s. But no one does that. Someone obviously bought them for me. And I think exactly who it is, and I am really excited to go away on a vacation with him.” T put it on thick to tell the man in so many ways that she was not interested in flirting or talking to the man. He took the hint as he did a head bob and a ooh sound. He then winked at her, smiled and leaned back. T sighed in relief, and leaned back as well sipping on her drink. The flight went uneventful and T even got some rest on the way. She walked of the plane with her little carry on and went to pick up her luggage. As she was waiting for the suitcase to roll by the man from the plane made eye contact with her across a small crowd of people. He did a head nod to say hello and smiled at her. T smiled shortly back at him and quickly went to pick up her suitcase and hurried out of the pickup area. She got a taxi and took it to the resort she was staying at. As she arrived a sweet and young woman met her in the lobby, she followed her to her room as a man took her suitcase there. The lady unlocked the door and gave the key to T. The man handed her the suitcase and T tipped him before she entered the door. She put her suitcase to the side and strode in through the small hallway into the living area. In front of a stunning view behind a floor to ceiling window stood a man waiting with 2 glasses of champagne. T smiled “I was hoping it would be you.” At a small office sat a younger man behind an old and worn desk. The thick drapes hanging by the side of the tall window gave the room a stuffy look. He was rubbing his forehead as he was listening in on a conversation on the phone. Now and then he would hum in agreement. His dirty blond hair was curly and unruly as he badly needed a new haircut. His muscles was bulging from under his shirt, it seemed to be half a size to small. As the conversation went to an end he thanked the person on the other end and hung up. He looked up from the desk and looked at the man sitting in the chair opposite to him. He then gave a huge grin, almost creepy and disturbing. “We have a plan, Dark sky got a neighboring pack to help them out. They owed them a favor. Just had to pull some strings and we get what we want without going through to much trouble.” The other man nodded as he grinned behind his hands that he was leaning on his lower face. Behind his fingers you could see his delight over the prospect. “This is great news Alpha Frederick. It’s about time we get the upper hand. I am sick and tired of our neighbor stealing the glory. We never get the recognition we deserve. And if we get to do some real damage we will be able to destabilize their pack. Without a functional Alpha they will surely crumble. And we could do with some extra pack land.” Alpha Frederick leaned back into his seat and put his fingers together and flexed them. He stared blankly out in the air for a while before he address his beta “This plan is fool proof, this just might be the time to strike. I just can’t see how we can go wrong. It’s a safe bet, putting in an attack on a neighboring pack is risky. But this has to work.” Both chuckled and made a sound of content.
