The corridor outside Ariana’s dorm room had gone quiet.
Lucas Knight stood under the dim hallway lights, his expression serious in a way Ariana had never seen before. The usual teasing confidence in his eyes had disappeared.
Instead, there was something heavier.
Something cautious.
Ariana slowly closed the door behind her and faced him fully.
“You said the Council knows who I really am,” she said.
Lucas didn’t answer immediately.
He leaned slightly against the wall, folding his arms as if choosing his words carefully.
“The Elite Council doesn’t pay attention to ordinary students,” he said finally.
Ariana lifted the black card again, staring at the silver words:
The Council Summons.
“So why me?” she asked.
Lucas looked directly into her eyes.
“That,” he said quietly, “is exactly the problem.”
Across the academy campus, the night had settled like a velvet curtain.
Lights glowed in the tall towers of Elite Academy, illuminating marble halls and secret corridors that few students ever explored.
But deep within the highest tower far above the student dormitories—seven figures sat around a circular table.
The Elite Council chamber.
The room was enormous, its ceiling covered with ancient symbols carved into silver stone.
At the center of the table rested a glowing projection.
A single image.
Ariana Reed.
One of the council members tapped the table thoughtfully.
“So this is the girl.”
Another voice answered from across the chamber.
“She passed the Shadow Trials faster than expected.”
A third member leaned forward slightly.
“And Vanessa Cole has already targeted her.”
A quiet laugh echoed through the chamber.
“That girl causes trouble for everyone.”
But then a deeper voice spoke.
Calm.
Powerful.
Authoritative.
“Trouble is not our concern.”
The chamber fell silent immediately.
“We are interested in one question only.”
The glowing image of Ariana flickered slightly.
The council leader’s eyes narrowed.
“Is she the one?”
Back in the dorm hallway, Ariana’s mind was racing.
Lucas clearly knew something he wasn’t saying.
“You’re hiding something,” she said.
Lucas smirked faintly.
“Observant.”
Ariana crossed her arms.
“You warned me about the academy watching me. Now the Council is summoning me. And you’re acting like you already expected this.”
Lucas didn’t deny it.
Instead, he straightened and stepped a little closer.
“Elite Academy isn’t just a school,” he said.
Ariana frowned.
“I figured that much already.”
Lucas continued.
“It’s a place where powerful families send their heirs.”
“Future CEOs.”
“Future political leaders.”
“Future rulers of entire industries.”
Ariana’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“And?”
Lucas looked directly at her.
“And the Elite Council chooses who rises… and who disappears.”
Ariana felt a cold chill run down her spine.
“Disappears?”
Lucas’s expression darkened.
“Students who threaten the balance of the academy sometimes… don’t stay long.”
The silence between them stretched.
Ariana tightened her grip on the card.
“So this is a warning?”
Lucas shook his head slowly.
“No.”
His voice lowered.
“This is the beginning of something much bigger.”
Meanwhile, in the academy’s luxury dormitory wing, Vanessa Cole sat comfortably on a velvet chair.
Her friends surrounded her as usual, but tonight her mood was unusually calm.
One of them leaned closer.
“Vanessa, have you heard the rumor?”
Vanessa sipped her tea lazily.
“Which one?”
“They say Ariana received a Council summons.”
Vanessa’s hand paused slightly.
For the first time that evening, genuine interest flickered across her face.
“The Council?”
Her friend nodded nervously.
“Yes.”
Vanessa slowly placed her cup down.
“Well…”
Her lips curved into a small smile.
“That’s interesting.”
Another girl frowned.
“Why?”
Vanessa stood and walked toward the window overlooking the academy grounds.
“Because,” she said softly, “the Council never summons someone without a reason.”
Her eyes darkened slightly.
“And sometimes…”
She turned back toward them.
“…they summon someone to destroy them.”
Her friends exchanged uneasy glances.
Vanessa smiled wider.
“If Ariana thinks surviving the trials made her powerful…”
Her voice dropped into a whisper.
“She’s about to learn how cruel this academy really is.”
Later that night.
Ariana stood alone on the academy balcony outside her dorm.
The cool wind brushed through her hair as she stared at the dark campus below.
Elite Academy looked peaceful at night.
But now she knew the truth.
Power struggles.
Secret authorities.
Hidden agendas.
This place was full of them.
Behind her, the balcony door opened quietly.
Lucas stepped outside.
“You should rest,” he said.
Ariana didn’t turn.
“Tomorrow.”
Lucas nodded slightly.
“Yes.”
“The Council meeting.”
Ariana finally faced him.
“What happens there?”
Lucas looked out over the academy grounds.
“That depends.”
“On what?”
Lucas glanced at her again.
“On whether they see you as an opportunity…”
He paused.
“…or a threat.”
Ariana’s heart beat faster.
“And if they see me as a threat?”
Lucas’s expression became unreadable.
“Then things will become very dangerous.”
Silence fell between them again.
But then Lucas suddenly added something unexpected.
“You’re not afraid.”
Ariana blinked slightly.
“Should I be?”
Lucas smiled faintly.
“Yes.”
Ariana looked back at the academy lights.
“Well,” she said calmly, “it’s a little late for that.”
Lucas laughed quietly.
For the first time that night, the tension around them eased slightly.
But inside the highest tower of the academy…
The Elite Council was still watching.
And one of its members had already made a decision.
