Chapter 1 : The Quiet Girl Arrives
The gates of Elite Academy did not open for ordinary people.
They opened slowly.
Deliberately.
As if deciding whether you were worthy to step through.
Ariana Reed stood before them, her expression calm, her posture straight, her eyes unreadable.
Around her, the air buzzed with quiet excitement.
Luxury cars lined the entrance.
Students stepped out one by one dressed in designer outfits, voices filled with confidence, laughter sharp and effortless. Some were already being surrounded by others, welcomed like royalty.
Names were whispered.
Reputations recognized.
Power acknowledged.
Ariana… received none of that.
She adjusted the strap of her bag slightly, her movements simple, almost unnoticeable.
Plain.
Quiet.
Invisible.
“Next.”
The voice at the gate was cold.
Official.
Ariana stepped forward.
The guard barely glanced at her before scanning her ID.
A short beep followed.
“Admitted.”
Just like that.
No welcome.
No second look.
She walked in.
The academy was exactly as rumored.
Massive.
Imposing.
Untouchable.
Glass towers reflected the morning light, pathways stretched endlessly across perfectly maintained grounds, and everything from the architecture to the people screamed power.
But Ariana didn’t slow down to admire it.
Her gaze moved once across the surroundings
Analyzing.
Observing.
Memorizing.
Then she kept walking.
Because admiration was a distraction.
And distractions were dangerous.
“Hey, did you hear? The top families are all here this year.”
“I heard Vanessa’s coming too.”
“No way the Vanessa?”
“Yeah. If she’s here, the rankings are already decided.”
Laughter followed.
Confident.
Certain.
Ariana walked past them without a glance.
Their conversation didn’t matter.
Not yet.
Inside the main hall, things were even worse.
Crowded.
Loud.
Competitive.
Students gathered around digital ranking boards flashing across the walls. Names were already being entered, updated, sorted.
Some smiled.
Others frowned.
Everyone was watching.
Everyone was judging.
Ariana stepped inside quietly.
And just like before
No one noticed.
Until someone did.
“Move.”
The voice was sharp.
Impatient.
Ariana didn’t react immediately.
She had stopped briefly in front of one of the ranking screens, scanning it.
Names.
Scores.
Affiliations.
Patterns.
But the voice came again, closer this time.
“I said move.”
Ariana turned.
Slowly.
A girl stood behind her perfectly dressed, posture flawless, eyes filled with thinly veiled irritation. Around her, a small group lingered, clearly following her lead.
Influence.
Status.
The kind that didn’t need to be announced.
Ariana stepped aside without a word.
The girl paused.
Just for a second.
As if expecting resistance.
Or recognition.
But Ariana gave neither.
She simply moved and walked away.
That, somehow, felt worse.
The girl’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“…Who is she?”
One of her followers quickly replied,
“Probably no one important.”
The girl didn’t respond.
But her gaze lingered.
Just a moment too long.
Ariana continued down the corridor.
Unbothered.
Unhurried.
But inside
Her mind was working.
Constantly.
The environment.
The people.
The hierarchy.
Everything here was structured.
Controlled.
Nothing was random.
Which meant
Every opportunity was hidden beneath something else.
She turned a corner.
And the noise faded.
The hallway ahead was quieter.
Less crowded.
Almost empty.
Ariana slowed slightly.
Her instincts stirred.
Something felt… off.
The lights above flickered once.
Then stabilized.
She stopped.
For no obvious reason.
Just a feeling.
A pull.
Something subtle but undeniable.
Her gaze shifted toward a side passage.
Narrow.
Unmarked.
Almost hidden.
No students.
No signs.
No reason to go there.
So why
Ariana took a step toward it.
Then another.
Her expression didn’t change.
But her curiosity had already taken over.
The moment she entered
The air changed.
Cooler.
Heavier.
Quieter.
Her footsteps echoed softly against the floor.
Too softly.
The further she walked, the more the sounds of the academy disappeared behind her.
Until
There was nothing left.
Only silence.
Ariana stopped.
The corridor ended in a blank wall.
No doors.
No windows.
Nothing.
She frowned slightly.
“…Strange.”
There was no reason for this space to exist.
And yet
It did.
Her eyes scanned the surface.
Careful.
Precise.
Then
She noticed it.
A faint line.
Barely visible.
Running across the wall.
Her fingers lifted slowly.
Touched it.
And in that instant
Everything changed.
A low hum filled the air.
The wall split open.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
But smoothly.
As if it had been waiting.
A hidden passage revealed itself.
Dark.
Descending.
Cold air rushed out from within.
Ariana didn’t step back.
Didn’t hesitate.
Her eyes darkened slightly.
Curious.
Alert.
Drawn in.
Because deep down
She already knew.
This was not part of the academy she was meant to see.
And yet
It had opened for her.
A faint voice echoed in the distance.
Not human.
Not mechanical.
Something in between.
“Candidate detected.”
Ariana’s breath stilled.
Her fingers curled slightly.
“…What?”
The voice came again.
Clearer this time.
Closer.
“Evaluation sequence… pending.”
The air shifted.
The darkness below seemed to move.
Calling.
Waiting.
Watching.
Ariana stood at the entrance.
Still.
Silent.
Thinking.
She should walk away.
Report it.
Ignore it.
Pretend it never happened.
That would be the logical choice.
The safe choice.
But
Ariana Reed had never been someone who chose safety.
Not when something didn’t make sense.
Not when something was hidden.
Her gaze steadied.
Her decision made.
And without another thought
She stepped forward.
Into the darkness.
Behind her
The wall closed.
Sealing her inside.
And far beneath the academy
Something ancient finally awakened.
