Riya's POV :
I sped through the driveway turning into the nearby suburban which is close to my clinic. This cafe is one among my top favourites and it's close to my heart for all the memories attached to it. During my childhood days my parents used to bring me here often. The owner of the coffee house "Sally", is my mom's friend and she is just so amazing and kind. I entered the coffee house and inhaled the rich aroma which filled my nostrils. Sally was busy with some work so I paid for my order and turned around only to see a guy with mysterious blue eyes talking on the phone.
Something stirred inside my heart, I was broken out of my trance by Sally's loud voice. I smiled waving at Sally, "Isn't he handsome, why don't you ask him out?" she asked. I blushed saying, "Oh Sally, not you too." After some conversation I grabbed my iced tea and turned around only to bump into someone, spilling the tea I had in my hand all over him. I rushed to the nearby table and grabbed the tissue as I kept apologizing continuously.
As I looked up, I saw him gaping like a fish, opening and closing his mouth but no words came out. So I waved my hand in front of his face which made him snap out of his thoughts. When I tried to apologise again he cut me off rudely with his hands and grunted out "Watch your way Miss" and hurrying out of the cafe.
I turned around mimicking his tone in a hoarse voice, which made Sally burst out into a fits of laughter. I bid goodbye to her after buying another iced tea driving back to my clinic.
I parked my car in to the parking lot, and entered inside the cabin only to see my annoying receptionist tapping on the keyboard leisurely chewing on her chewing gum. She wished me, " Good morning Miss Tandon '' in her monotonous voice, not even caring to glance up from whatever work she was doing. I tapped on the desk to get her attention and asked for my schedule today, to which she replied, "You have two appointments this morning, and for after 3pm you're schedule is free Ms.Tandon." I nodded my head, replying with a thank you and went inside my cabin.
30 minutes later…
There was a knock on my door, after which a familiar face entered inside. I greeted him with a smile after which the counselling session started and lasted for more than an hour. I looked at the watch after he left knowing that I was left with a ten minutes break before the next appointment. I took my phone out and texted the supposed date my mom set me up with. I saved his number as "Date no.22" and started typing the text.
I sent a quick text to him saying, "Hi this is Riya, you're date for today's evening, how about meeting at 4pm sound?" The reply was instant, "Sure see you there at 4pm."
I closed my phone as I heard another knock on my door. The second appointment lasted for two hours which made me feel exhausted. No offense, I love my job but at times it can drain me mentally. Looking at the watch it was 3pm so I headed out to meet my supposed date. It's better to start early, one can never predict New York traffic, I thought to myself.
I pulled up into the parking lot and went inside the restaurant. A soft music was playing at the back and the ambience was good, there was a family sitting on the nearby table celebrating something. I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder, and turned around to see a guy of six feet tall and curly hair with a lopsided grin. I held out my hand for a formal handshake but to my surprise he engulfed me in a hug introducing himself as Liam.
After sharing pleasantries we took our seats opposite to each other. The waiter came asking for our orders.
He ordered for a Chicken Tuscan sandwich with a lemon drink and I ordered for a Chicken grilled sandwich with water. He was telling me about himself, where he did his college and about his profession as I kept listening and sharing a few things in the middle.
He suddenly blurted out, "I'm gay," which made my jaw drop in surprise. I looked at him wide eyes and asked "What?'' as I thought I might have misheard him.
He said it again slowly word by word, "I'M. GAY." I whispered out a small "ohh", before I could say anything else we were interrupted by the waiter, as he placed our orders down.
We ate our food awkwardly, glancing up at each other a few times. Unable to bear the silence I asked him, "Why?" He chewed on his food slowly, before asking me "Why for what?'' I cleared my throat asking, "Why did you accept this date?" He sighed answering, "Because still now my parents doesn't know that I'm gay and they set me up with this dates thinking I might meet someone I like."
I nodded my head understanding his circumstances. "Hey, I'm sorry" he apologised. I just smiled and brushed it off. We spoke about our school days and I was laughing at his jokes. I must say, he is different from the dates I have gone before.
I glanced to the other side feeling the stare of someone on me only to be locked with the same mysterious blue eyes. I was losing myself in the swirls of those eyes which were deeper than the ocean. Someone cleared the throat next to me, which made me look away. I looked up to see the waiter who took our orders standing next to us with a bill in hand. I paid for it using my card despite Liam 's protests. We continued the conversation and I asked whether he was seeing someone.
To which he blushed replying "Yes." I cooed at him and enjoyed our rest of the meal.
We got up to leave as Liam engulfed me in another hug. I thanked him for the wonderful time, we spent together and assured that I'll meet him again sometime soon. We parted our ways, I unlocked my car and slid into the driver seat. I took out my phone and changed "Date No.22 to Liam", before heading back to my apartment.
But at the back of my mind, a mysterious blue eyes is what it was filled with.
Unlocking my apartment door, I saw Caleb passed out on the couch. So I went inside my room, after changing my dress into a t-shirt and night pant. I laid on the bed and continued the novel I was reading before. I don't know when I fell asleep, but even my dreams were occupied with the same mysterious blue eyes...
