I sat on the side of my bathtub, clutching the sides so hard I thought I would chip the paint.
"Holy s**t, I slept with my f*****g boss," I groaned as I placed my hands over my eyes.
I heard the bathroom door open and saw Roman standing there, wearing nothing but a devious smirk on his face.
"I thought I heard you in here, would you like to come have brunch with me?" He said.
I side-eyed him, shocked that he was not as mortified as I was, "are you serious right now?"
"Quite, I happen to want to spend some more time with you," he sat beside her on the tub and looked down at her with a grin.
"Do you not realize what I have done!? I slept with my boss! I never wanted to do something like this, Jesus I am a disgrace," I rubbed my fingers through my hair in stress.
"I do not see it that way," he stated making her snap her attention to him. He looked up at the ceiling as he continued, "all I know is that I spent the night with someone I truly like and want to continue this relationship, I just so happen to be her superior but there isn't anything wrong with it."
She looked at him breathlessly. He was smart, handsome and sweet. What's the catch on this guy?
"Fine, I would love to go to brunch with you," I said with a smile.
"How about a shower then?" he asked with a raise of his dark eyebrow.
"Oh, let me get you a towel and stuff," I said getting up and was stopped by arms wrapping around my waist from behind.
"I was thinking you could take it with me," he laid his head on my shoulder and nuzzled into my neck, making me blush. So, I got in the shower with him...for an hour and a half...dont judge me.
After we actually got showered and decent looking, we walked downstairs to the parking garage to his vehicle. He opened the door for me to sit and closed it before he walked to his side to get behind the wheel. We drove for a while and ended up in a forest of some kind.
"Where the Hell are you taking us?" I asked curiously.
"It is a surprise," he smiled.
"If I didn't know any better, I would think I was about to be murdered...you're not going to murder me are you?" I asked flatly.
"Never would I do anything so heinous to you, my jewel," he smiled.
"That is the second time you called me that," I muttered, looking out the window.
"That is because you are a jewel, a rare, bright ruby among plain and stale diamonds," he reached for my hand and grabbed it, intertwining his fingers in mine and squeezing.
"That's....so lovely. I bet you tell all your girls that," I said jokingly, but inside, I was hoping he would say no.
"I do not have any other woman I am interested in but you," he lifted my hand and kissed the back of it lovingly before continuing to hold it in my lap.
I have never in my twenty-eight years of life had a man talk to me this way before and while most women would be wetter than the Atlantic, I didn't know how to respond to it. Back where I am from, the sweetest thing a man would call you is "Old Lady" or "Big Mama" and even "b***h". No one ever called her "My Jewel" before.
He pulled the vehicle into a driveway that no one would notice unless they knew it was there and drove up the long curvy road. Clearing out from the trees, a large manor came into view, with large windows and modern architecture. The lawn was fresh and green and the flowers and foliage were lush and vibrant. It looked like something out of a fancy house magazine.
He pulled up to the entrance with a fountain on one side and a man on the other, opening the door for her and offering his hand to help her step out. She took it cautiously as he helped her down and went to the other side to open the door for Roman. He handed the man his keys and he got behind the steering wheel to drive the vehicle put of view.
She felt awkward, standing in a place that she knew she didn't belong. Roman came beside her and offered his arm, which she draped hers through with a smile. They walked up the staircase and the wooden double doors opened for them into the most gorgeous foyer. The floor was black and white marble and the red walls were decorated with various styles of art and an antique chandelier lit up the whole space. Out of nowhere, a tiny squeal erupted and a small girl of about three or four years old slammed into Roman in a tight hug.
"Uncle Woman! I missed you so much," she screamed happily.
Roman laughed and bent down to pick up the small child, wrapping her in a hug, "hello beautiful, I missed you more."
I stood there awkwardly watching then before he noticed me and introduced us. The little girl was beautiful, rosy chubby cheeks, long curly black hair in pigtails decorated with large pink bows. She wore a pink and white Lolita-styled dress and had the prettiest blue eyes. If AI hadn't just heard her call him uncle, I would've guessed this was his daughter. The child squirmed in his arms, signaling she wanted to be put down and she walked up to me and extended her little hand out.
"Its nice to meet you! My name is Lorelei Antoinette Song," she said proudly as she beamed a toothy grin.
I smiled and grabbed her tiny hand to shake it, "Lovely to meet you Lorelei, my name is Ruby Connor."
She leaned into Roman's ear to whisper loudly, "I like her, she's pretty."
I giggled as a young woman looked around the house frantically. She was naturally gorgeous, long flowing black hair, beautiful blue eyes and the black Chanel dress she wore curved her slim figure beautifully. When her eyes laid on the little girl in Roman's arms, she breathed a sigh of relief before walking over and grabbing her gently from him to scold her.
"Lollie darling, you can't go running off without me! You could get hurt in here," she said as she held the girl tightly.
"But I wanted to come see Uncle Woman and his pretty lady friend mama," she whined.
"Be patient next time love and I will go with you" she smiled lovingly at the little girl. She looked up at myself and Roman, waiting for him to introduce me.
"This is Ruby Connor," he said wrapping an arm around my shoulder. He gestured to the woman, "this is my sister, Charlotte."
The woman bowed respectfully at me, "Charlotte Joanna Song, but you may call me Lottie. It is lovely to meet you Ruby."
She nudged Roman in the shoulder, "is this finally it little brother, are you going to get married like the rest of us. She waggled her dainty eyebrows at him and he placed his fist over his mouth to clear his throat nervously.
I giggled and heard heels clicking the marble floor. I turned to see Antoinette walking towards us with a smile, "there is the rest of our guests, lovely to see you again, Ruby darling."
I smiled and waved at her as she led us into a garden, adorned with flowers and an artificial meadow. In the middle was a large gazebo, with a white antique table, set with various desserts and sandwiches, a tea set, champagne in a chiller with glasses and China plates. We walked and all sat at the table where a maid served us everything. I felt awkward being waited on, since I usually do the waiting.
Roman must have sensed my nervousness and spoke, "Ruby, say ah."
"Do what no-" I was cut off by Roman shoving a macaroon in my mouth.
Lorelei giggled as I almost choked and I side-eyed Roman, making a mental note to get him back later.
Soon a man in a suit came over, he was a tall man with messy brown hair and sharp glasses. He was handsome but in a serious kind of way.
"I am sorry I'm late! Court went longer than I thought it would," he said as he kissed Lottie on the cheek and picked up Lorelei to set her in his lap.
"Daddy! I thought you would miss the tea party!" she squeeled.
"What!? And miss the opportunity to see the two prettiest flowers in the garden! I think not," he said with exaggeration.
He noticed me sitting there and smiled at my direction, "Oh! Hello, I'm Damian Cole, nice to meet you."
"Hello, I am Ruby Connor, pleasure to make your acquaintance," I said sweetly.
"Damian is Lottie's husband, he is a well known attorney in New York," Roman explained.
"Please you are too kind! I do a job just like everyone else, but let me say, if I have to bail Mike Tyson out again for fighting, I am going to lose it," he huffed in annoyance.
I couldn't help but giggle a bit, seeing how funny it was to see how attorneys can go from so serious to being a worn out dad like everyone else.
The rest of the afternoon went by in a flash it seemed. They enjoyed tea and cakes like out of a fairytale. Lorelei eventually ended up in Ruby's arms to pass out from a sugar coma. I handed her to her mother before we waved goodbye at them. Roman opened the door for me and I stepped in to sigh and sink into the fine leather.
"Long day?" he said with a smile.
"That little lady is wild but so very sweet. I enjoyed today," I smiled back at him.
"Good, I am glad," he said as he began to drive. He reached his hand in my lap, opening it slightly. Knowing what he wanted, I grasped his hand in mine and saw his eyes soften when I did.
I once feared this man, with his stoic and silent disposition and the way he ran through secretaries. It seemed they would hire one and they would quit within the same week, running out of the building in tears. This didn't seem like that same man and I wondered if this was a side he had only shown to me or if this is how he treated all of those women and dumped them.
I held his hand all the way to a nice ritzy looking building. When he pulled into the parking garage he drove to a private spot reserved for him. I looked at him puzzled, "Umm, aren't you taking me home?"
"I stayed at your place last night and you bought me dinner, I thought I would return the favor," he looked at me with a heart thrashing smile, daring me to say no to him.
I looked away with pink cheeks, "you don't have to do that you know."
He used his thumb and forefinger to grab my chin and turn my head to face him, "I want to."
He bent down to kiss me and my God if I could melt once in my life it would be then! He kissed deep and lovingly, throwing all of his emotions out to it, and I won't lie, I kissed him back just as deep. He separated, breaking our kiss, before coming to my door and opening it for me again. He doesn't know that I saw, but I saw him shift himself in his pants before reaching my door, he ain't slick.
I walked beside him, cringing at the heels rubbing against my feet after running around with a toddler all day. He walked beside me and punched in the passcode on the keypad by the garage door. I was about to find out where and how my boss lived.
