RAINING DAYS AIN'T OVER AFTER ALL
"See me as I trample upon thy face, soil.
Feel me as I push through thy body, wind.
Now blink with me."
"Ouch, my head!" Rose's cry echoed in the darkness as she landed awkwardly on the ground, a sharp pain pulsating at the back of her skull.
Blinking against the dimness, she struggled to orient herself. Dusty walls and cobwebs surrounded her, casting eerie shadows in the gloom. Panic surged within her as she wondered if she had been caught.
"Wait, where am I?" Rose's fingers brushed over her face, searching for any new injuries from her fall. Finding none, she breathed a sigh of relief. "Looks like the Evanesco spell worked after all. That was a close one."
Memories of her childhood surfaced, memories of her mother teaching her magic from a small book of spells for witches. She made her study and practice most of the spells before she passed away. After her death, Rose completely stopped using any magic or even read the book even though she went with it everywhere.
“What is the point of the power if I couldn't save the only one person I had in this cruel world.” She would constantly say to herself whenever she felt like reading the book.
Returning to the present, Rose struggled to identify her surroundings. She knew only Molok's building and farmyard, her prison for most of her life.
"Shut the hell up Reece, always nagging about s**t!" The voices outside the door drew her attention, so she went closer and pressed her ear against the rough wood, straining to hear.
As the voices drew nearer, panic seized her. "I better find somewhere to hide. Or wait, what if I try hiding and get caught? What if they were the ones that kept me down here, I'll just incure more punishment and look stupid after I'm caught. Damn it, they're already at the door. Play dead Rose, just play dead", she whispered to herself then quickly dropped to the spot she had woken up earlier, pretending to be dead.
It didn't take long before the door burst open, revealing a group of men.
"What the hell is that?" one of them exclaimed, his voice filled with disbelief.
"Is that... do we have servants sleeping in the basement, Lemar?" another asked.
"I thought the door was locked before we came in." a third voice added.
Ignoring their discussion, Rose tried to remain still, hoping they wouldn't notice her.
"Is he even still alive?" one of the men questioned.
Before she could react, a sharp pain shot through her abdomen as one of the men kicked her.
"It's a she," he declared.Realizing her earlier plan was futile, Rose scrambled to her feet, her mind racing for an explanation, If they had the slightest idea that she was a witch, the treatment she had gotten from Molok would be 5-star royal treatment compared to what they would do to her. But when she spoke, her words only earned her scorn and violence.
"Get away from her Reece. Are you okay?" one of the men said as he hurried to try to touch her but she quickly got up and shifted backwards. Her eyes were open now but it was difficult for her to get a clear view of the men she has mysteriously appeared in their basement.
"What are you doing in the basement, servants aren't allowed in here", said one of the men but she remained quiet for a while thinking of what to say or if she should even say anything.
“maybe I should try playing deaf and dumb this time.” She thought to herself.
"Yeah! I found it, dad's shotgun. I'm out of here". Said the fourth man who seemed pretty uninterested in her presence there. Rose wished the rest felt the same way.
"Hold up Dante, we still have to find out what a servant is doing inside a locked basement. Or is she..." Said one of the men before he was quickly cut short by Rose.
"I was kidnapped by some guys..." She hurriedly spoke out. "And then I woke up here after Mr. kick-boxer kicked me in the stomach." She said in an attempt to get a little sympathy from them but that didn't turn out good.
Reece, her apparent tormentor, seized her roughly by the jaw, his grip nearly crushing her teeth. His words dripped with malice as he asserted his dominance. "Now listen slave, when your superiors and future alphas are speaking, you shut your trash up. And next time, if there'll ever be a next time, you address me as Master. Am I clear?"
"Yes!", she immediately squeezed the words out of her little mouth without protesting.
"What did you say?" He replied with more fury in his tone and adding extra pressure to his grip on her jaws.
"Yes!… Master!..." She hurriedly screamed out, shaking her hands and legs vigorously with her jaws nearly snapping out of her face.
"Now get your miserable low-life back to work before I change my mind. And if anything goes wrong in this birthday party, just forget you ever existed" He said as he finally let lose of her jaws and got up to leave.
"I'm sorry, what birthday party?" She asked him with an arrogant tone and look.
"You're not a quick learner I see", He said turning around and immediately grabbing her by her neck and tossing her across the room with brutal force.
The world spun as darkness enveloped her, swallowing her pain and fear.
When consciousness returned, Rose found herself in a different room, the dull ache in her head a grim reminder of her ordeal.
Her ugly dead clothes had been replaced with a blue gown meant for patients. Lifting the gown upwards, she checked to see if her undies were still in place or if it has been changed too. Letting out a deep breath, "still intact", she whispered to herself.
She tried getting up from the bed but she heard voices nearby, their conversation filled with ominous undertones.
"Notice how it's been raining for almost 48hrs?"
"Yeah very strange, it never happens. I haven't witnessed or heard of it happen anywhere in this realm"
"What about Reece's new bestie, is she awake yet?"
"Oh! Let's check, she's still in my lab"
“Oh no, I think that would me.” Rose whispered to herself. “Playing dead didn't go too well the last time so I guess I’ll just remain still this time.”
With a sinking feeling, Rose sat up feeling ready for whatever the universe has to throw at her. The door slid open, revealing two god-like creatures.
"I think I spoke too soon," she murmured to herself. "I wasn't ready for this."
