The ground shook as it cried for its King. " Shaye! " Geneva shouted and fell to her knees. Her hands went around his large paw. His breath fell slowly, and the dust shied away from him. His eyes drooped close as his mouth exhaled. " Shaye? Shaye! " Geneva cried, patting Shaye's furry cheek with her hand. Devon rushed towards his friends side, and scanned for his injury. His eyes caught the wound on Shaye's paw as Giselle ran towards them, a man with glasses following her on his heels. " The wound is in his paw. " Devon informed the man with glasses. Giselle fell to her knees, her hand covering her mouth as she gasped. Geneva couldn't process anything. Her heart was beating wildly in her chest. She clutched her heart as she gasped for air. Devon's eyes snapped towards her. " We need another healer! " He shouted at top of his lungs. The servants who were waiting at the doorway, to see their King, rushed inside to get another healer. Geneva's head spinned as her breath shallowed, and she fell to her right. She was ready to feel the ground. But instead, she felt a warm familiar hand, under her head, and another one went around her waist. Then she was lost into darkness.
"Is she awake yet? " " No. She is really weak. Even if she was eating, the pressure was too much on her. " Geneva heard a man's and a woman's voice. Someone sighed. " The Healer said she could have gone to coma. " The man said to the woman, who gasped. " She'll be alright, don't worry. " " Is The King alright? " " Yes. But he is still unconscious. " " What did the healer say? " " That he has to rest for at least a week. " Geneva groaned, and tried to move her fingers. Then he heard rustling, and the bed dipped beside her. " Geneva? " She heard the man's voice. Whimpering, she tried to open her eyes. It was with great effort, that she slid her eyes open. The faces blurred, the waving hands seemed blur, she blinked few times to adjust to the light in the room, and the dizziness she still felt. The moment the faces cleared, she sighed. " I thought I went blind. " She croaked. Devon and Kennedy let out chuckle. " How are you feeling? " Devon asked. " My headaches are gone. But I still feel dizzy. " Geneva said. " Here drink some water. " Kennedy offered a glass water to Geneva, and Devon helped her sit up. " She gulped down water like she had been in dessert for years. When she finished, she wanted more. And more. After four glasses of water, she felt hydrated. " Is Shaye okay? " She asked. " Yes. But he is still unconscious. " Devon answered her. " Did the wound heal? " Geneva asked. " No. Every wolf has a weakness like every human. But it is more deadly for us. So, Shaye has a weakness. Silver. The guy who ever wounded him, used silver. " Devon informed. Geneva fuilt a prick of guilt. She was the reason why Shaye was hurt. And she didn't like it at all. " What happened? Do you know? " Devon asked. Kennedy sat down on the other side of Geneva. " My parents. My adoptive parents sold me to a man. " Geneva said, her blood boiled as she remembered the moment they showed their real face but she was also devastated that she was all alone in this world. She wanted to meet with her parents thinking that she could only trust them but it turned out bad. Worse even. " You mean, you are their -" " I'm not their real daughter. " Geneva confirmed the fact. " Still, " Kennedy interfered. " No one acts like this towards a human. That really is offensive. " Devon sighed through his mouth. "We'll talk about it later. You should go to sleep. " Devon said, to which Geneva nodded slowly.
When everyone was asleep, Geneva woke up to dark room. Her eyes took time to adjust. And when they did, she sat up. The dizziness was gone, and so was her sleep. She stood up from the bed, and walked to the door, she walked and walked. She walked where her feet took her. She passed so many rooms, and so many doors. Her feet only stopped padding on the cold marble floor when she stopped in felnt of a golden door, with large hinges. She opened the door, the door made no sound. The dark room was inviting her into it. And she accepted it. She walked through the door, and scamned the room. Shaye was sound asleep. Geneva had been worried about him. And she wanted to meet him. So, she didn't stop. She walked closer to the bed, and sat beside the giant asleep wolf. His bed was enormous. The golden bedsheets were soft as his fur. Geneva wondered if sleeping like that was comfortable for him? Why doesn't he change back? Does he likes his wolf that much that he doesn't shift and live like a normal human? Geneva reached her hand to his head. She brushed his head. Shaye murmured something in his sleep. Geneva leaned to hear it. But she couldn't.
Then his eyes snapped open, and she jerked away. "Geneva." he said, his eyes widening. Geneva smiled. " I was worried about you. And I can't sleep. " She answered. She sensed his smile. " How are you feeling? " He asked. " I'm good. " " I asked about your feelings, Geneva. Are you okay about the fact? " He asked. Geneva understood what he was asking, so she nodded. " They did you wrong. And they will pay. " Shaye said. Geneva's eyes snapped to him. " No. Don't make them pay. Let them love their life. It's okay. " She said. " But" he said
" It's wrong. You are their daughter. " " I'm not related to them, Shaye. " Geneva said, shaking her head. " But they raised you. " " So? I have already been a burden to them. I don't want them to suffer for me anymore. " Geneva said, tucking her Hairstrands behind her ear, her eyes downcast. Shaye sighed. " Fine. But you're staying here. " He said. " No. why? " " Because I said. As a King, it is my order. And as a friend, it is my request. " He said. Geneva heaved a sigh, and nodded slowly. " But. " she said. " I won't be leaving here without doing anything. I need a job. Give me a job in the mansion. " " What? No. You're my friend. You don't have to work. " " Please, Shaye. I don't want to feel useless. " " But you're not useless. " Shaye tried to sit up but fall with an 'oomph'. " Shaye. " Geneva called, and helped him lie comfortably. He was laid on his side, his face towards her just like he was lying when she walked in his room. Shaye gazed at Geneva, which wouldn't back down. " Fine. You have to take care of me, and my works. Can you do that? " Shaye asked. A grin bloomed on Geneva face, and she nodded excitedly. " The term used for the job is 'Personal Assistant'. " He said. " I would love to be your P A. " " What? " " PA. Short for Personal Assistant. " Geneva smiled. " Okay. Whatever you would like to call yourself. " The wolf smiled with his eyes. " Can I sleep here? Your bed is huge. " She asked. " Yes. You can. " He said, and pushed himself back to give space to Geneva for sleeping. Geneva laid down beside him, her face close to his wolfy one. She smiled brightly at the wolf king. " Your heartbeat isn't fast. " Shaye said. " Because I'm not afraid of you. " She replied, smiling. " You shouldn't. Because I like you very much. And I will never hurt you. " Shaye said, gazing at her with his obsidian black eyes. " I like you too, Wolf King. " Geneva whispered, smiling.
Few seconds passed, and they were still awake. Staring at each other sometimes, and sometimes, avoiding each other gazes. " Shaye, may I ask you a question? " Geneva asked, her forehead creased as she looked up at him without raising her head. " Of course. " He said. " Why don't you shift to your human form? Are you ugly? You don't like your face when you look at your reflection? " Geneva asked, raising her brow, her voice innocent. " No. I am very handsome. " Shaye replied, raising his furry chin. " Then why? Why don't you shift? " She asked. " Because I can't. " Shaye answered. His eyes pooled with grief, and he looked away. " Why? " Geneva's voice was soft when she asked this, afraid that the question might break him, if she asks it louder. " I am, " He said. " Cursed. " Cursed. Cursed. Cursed. The word was chanted in Geneva's ears like an anthem. Cursed. Cursed. Cursed. " What? " She asked, flabbergasted about the whole truth. Shaye nodded his giant wolf head. " I don't know how, I don't know who, and I don't know when it happened. But I woke up in my wolf form, and I couldn't shift back to my human form." Shaye answered her question. " Did you ask anyone who knows about these things? Curse can be removed right? " She asked. " Yes. It can. But, " He said, lowering his eyes. " I have tried everything. The healers don't know The potion makers don't know. The magic master don't know. No one knows how to break the curse. They only told me that my human form is locked. Someone did it. But I don't know who. " Shaye said. Locked. Locked. Locked. Geneva kept the truth. Her friend's truth locked in her heart. She would help him. She doesn't know how. But she will. She will take him out of this grief that he has been bearing all alone. The door was banged four times, and they heard shouts. Geneva sat up straight, adjusting her hair. The door banged again. " Open the door. " Geneva rushed to the door, and gasped at the sight.
