Chapter 18

377 Words
Vee's POV_ As I sat in Mr Gabriel's office, I felt a wave of emotions wash over me. I hadn't realized how much my childhood was still affecting me until now. "My grandmother raised me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "She was strict and demanding. She never showed me love or affection. I had to earn everything." Mr. Gabriel nodded, his expression understanding. "That must have been very difficult for you. How did she show you love and affection?" I laughed bitterly. "She didn't. She showed me how to be perfect, how to follow rules, and how to be a good girl. But love? No, that was never part of the equation." As I spoke, I felt a lump form in my throat. I had never realized how much I was still carrying around the pain of my childhood. But as I looked at Mr. Gabriel, I saw the compassion in his eyes, and I knew I could trust him. "It's okay, Vee," he said gently. "You're safe here. You can let your guard down." Tears streamed down my face as I began to confront the pain and hurt of my past. It was a painful process, but with Mr. Gabriel's guidance, I knew I could start to heal. As I continued to explore my past with Mr. Gabriel, I began to see patterns and habits that had developed as a result of my grandmother's parenting. I realized that my need for control and perfectionism was a coping mechanism, a way to avoid feeling the pain and uncertainty of my childhood. Mr. Gabriel helped me to understand that these patterns were no longer serving me and that it was okay to let go. He encouraged me to practice self-compassion and to focus on the present moment. As I worked through my emotions, I started to feel a sense of freedom that I had never experienced before. I felt like I could finally be myself without the weight of my grandmother's expectations. But as I made progress, I knew that there were still challenges ahead. I would have to confront Rachel and the emotions that came with her return. I would have to learn to navigate our complicated relationships and find a way to coexist.
