“Alright then, let’s do this.” Stacy said as she swung the vehicle towards a right outskirt from the main road. The rough road was under a canopy of trees and it was way dark. The path led to the cabin.

“Damn, what time is it?” Jess asked as she took out her phone. It was slightly after five in the evening but the road was completely dark.

“You sure this is the way? This place is so dark.” Stacy asked.

“Yeah, it’s usually this dark during this time of the year. I bet you are tired. Pull over, I’ll drive from here.” Jess offered.

“We’re actually almost there.” Jess said. She remembered this place so well. She had always come here whenever she felt lonely, it was calm and consoling. The weather was perfect, after all what else would she be doing?

“I think we’re here.” Stacy said as they approached a small cabin with a bonfire outside. She pulled over and parked next to the two trucks besides the cabin.

“I guess we’re the last ones.” Jess said, smiling at Stacy. She leaned forward and kissed her before jumping off the truck. The cabin front door opened and Tim came out. He ran towards Jess and the two hugged each other. They seemed pleased to see each other. Tim’s girlfriend followed and she hugged Jess and Stacy. For once Stacy saw how happy Jess was, it was amazing. She had never seen her that excited and talkative as she was. She didn’t understand why she barely talked of Tim and their friends.

“Tim, so this is Stacy.” Jess said, pulling Stacy by her waist, closer to her.

“Yeah yeah, I remember, you sent me some photos. She’s a keeper man.” Tim said, looking at Stacy. Although they didn’t talk much with Jess, she had sent him some photos. Tim had been happy for Jess, she had finally found someone.

“Don’t lose her.” He added as he introduced his girlfriend Alex and the two other guys, Mike and Jay.

“Hey guys, I’m pleased to meet you.” Stacy said, getting rid of the awkward silence.

“Come on in,” Tim said. Alex led Stacy into the cabin as Tim and Jess stayed outside unpacking their stuff.

“So you been with Alex for years now, how do you do that?” Jess asked. She had met Tim when he was already dating Alex. They had broken up a few times but still got back together.

“I don’t know, man. I think when you love someone too much, and they are consumed by your passion, there is nothing that can tear you apart. It’s not been easy but for her, I’ll do anything.” Tim said.

“Dude, you’re so in love.” Jess said, chuckling.

“I wish I could help myself.” Tim admitted.

“It’s fine though, you seem happy. After all, if you breakdown the purpose of life, it all goes down to either happy or sad” Jess said.

“So what’s your deal with Stacy? She is hot!” Tim said, punching Jess on the arm lightly.

“Yeah? I think she’s the one man.” Jess said.

“And you were saying?” Tim said. They carried Jess’ bags into the cabin. Stacy followed Jess to their bedroom. In the room was a mahogany double bed, it was covered in white sheets. The place was a little dusty but they both cleaned the place and made their bed. They unpacked and freshened up before going back to thieving room where everyone was seating. It had been a cold evening.

“So, guys what are we doing tonight?” Jess asked before settling on the couch with her girlfriend.

“You are not hungry?” Alex asked.

“Oh, we’re starving. But we brought some canned food. It’s in the kitchen.” Jess said.

“That’s alright. We made dinner. We should all go and eat.” Tim said.

They all moved to the dining table and served themselves. They ate as they chat with each other. Mike and Jay were engaged. Jess had not been familiar with Jay and Mike but they seemed like good people. They were all getting to know each other and they later moved back to the living room. There was a couch and two sofa beds. Jess had taken one sofa bed with Stacy, Tim and Alex took the other while Mike and Jay took the couch. Jess had brought her laptop and the big flat screen TV would give them a good movie night.

“I brought movies, I don’t know which one we should watch.” Jess said.

Alex took the laptop and she selected a movie, All I Want for Christmas, it seemed ideal to watch on Christmas Eve. They all settled in their respective positions and the movie started. Jess was happy that she got to bring someone this time. All the other times she had been alone while everyone else got to bring their partners. The last time she had been devastated. She had been a little jealous. She was not only single but also the only gay person. They would bombard her with questions that she found hard to answer. The other couple other than Tim and Alex had actually suggested to try something with her but she had been offended. Were it not for Tim and Alex, she would have left the same day. She was always disgusted by the way people mistake being gay and having fun. However, she had gotten over it and that didn’t matter now that she had brought Stacy with her. It was going to be fun. Stacy had never heard her say words like those. She had always been quiet and nice. She was acting weird but she liked it.
