Chapter 2 Flashback

Bella POV Flash Back I was 12 years old, and Jake was only 3 years old when our mother had left us in the dead of night with a note that she didn't know when she would be back. It wasn't the first time, and it certainly would not be the last time. I wanted to cry, but I needed to be strong for Jake. I scoffed as I read the note. I tore it up, throwing it into the garbage. Our mom was a wicked woman, I thought as I opened the refrigerator to see what I could cook for Jake and I. It's a good thing that I'm smart with an IQ of over 200. This wasn't the first time she had left the first time I was only six years old before Jake was born. Back then, she had left food in the refrigerator, but now all I see are empty shelves, not even a crumb. I went back upstairs to check on Jake. As his big sister, I had to protect him. I slowly opened the door, and he was still asleep. I softly closed his door, praying that he didn't wake up while I'm out in the woods finding food for us. Of course, I had never hunted before, so I had no clue on how to go about it. I was smart, so I should be able to figure it out on my own. I didn't have any type of rifle to shoot any type of animal. The only things available were old knives. I picked one up as I was towards the old backdoor of our run-down home. I left running barefoot into the woods, holding the knife inside my pants. I know it's not a good place, but it's better than running with it in my hand with a fifty percent I could fall killing myself. I could feel the fallen branches scratch my legs as I ran. It was early morning, so the chances of me finding anything to hunt was less to none. I stopped running my dirty hands over my face, wiping the sweat and dirt of my face. I hear a rustle in the bushes silently walking towards it. I laid down the ground, crawling to the bushes. I picked my lips as I peeked through. I almost laughed when I saw a deer grazing about three feet away from me. I closed my eyes as I looked upon the deer. I really didn't want to kill it, but I didn't want me Jake and I to starve to death because of our lousy mother. I moved forward, trying not to scare the animal in front of me. In a flash, I jump to my feet, jumping towards the deer missing it by inches. I got back up, rushing towards the deer as it took off, jumping over large tree branches. I, of course, had to run around it because of my age and small stature. I was breathing heavily when I spotted the deer running next to me. With a huff, I turned my body landing on the animal. It tried to nuck me off, and with a swift movement, I stabbed the deer in the neck, taking it down to the ground. I heard it scream as I plunged my knife into it twice more as blood spurted all over my face and body. I closed my eyes, tears running down my face, knowing that I had just killed a defenseless animal. I knelt down onto my knees, sobs racking my body as I looked into its now dead eyes. I reached for my knife that had been plunged into its heart. I was only nine years old, and here I am about to dismember a deer. All of a sudden, I hear the howling of wolves in the distance. I put the knife inside my pants as I wiped the tears off with my other hand. I picked up the deer legs, dragging it slowly. After a few minutes, I had to stop and catch my breath. I hear the wolves howling again. This time, it was closer than before. I sniff, wiping the blood off my face as I continue to drag the deer towards our home. I squinted my eyes as I noticed something lying near one of our oak trees. I dropped the legs softly, walking over to see what it was. My eyes opened wide as I saw an older black wolf with gray on its muzzle, hardly breathing. I tentatively walked closer, squatting down beside it. I noticed a partially broken arrow in its side as I reached for it; I heard a low growl coming from the nearly dead wolf. I gently stroked it's fur thinking it was nice and soft. I moved my hand closer to the broken arrow, trying not to spook the wolf. I bit my lip as I grabbed it, yanking it out of his side. I remembered that if I had anything clean, I could use it to stop the bleeding. I looked down at my clothes soaked in deer blood. I took off my top and ripped part of it off when I saw that part of the shirt wasn't dirty. I then wrapped the bloody side around my upper body using it like a strapless shirt. I pressed down on the wound hopefully; it would slow down or stop it completely. Damien Black Pov I laid on the Forrest ground with a silver knife in my side when I saw a young child dragging a deer by its hind feet stopping every few minutes because it was tiring her out. My wolf whimpered as she drew closer. I could tell she was young because of her non development in a certain area. I hear Carver in my head who happens to be my beta, friend, and business partner. I told him to get any closer because of a human child. I see her take her top off, tearing off a piece that was clean; after she tore it, she wrapped the bloody section around her chest area. I see her walk up slowly squatting down, petting me on my fur. I hear her say how soft my fur is. All of a sudden, I felt the knife pull out and the clean cloth covering my wound. I see her blink at me than looked at the deer. She gives me a little smile as she backs up, telling me she's leaving me the deer. I lifted my head, watching her run back into the woods, assuming she was returning home. I transformed back into my human body mind, linking Carver that it was all clear to approach me now. We head back towards our pack with the deer. I turn around, whispering a thank you to the little girl who found me as we walked away with my wound healing quickly. Someday, somehow, I was going to repay her for saving my life.
