Chapter 2 Weekend. Saturday. This is supposed to be a day off for me but I am most busy in the weekend. Not because of work but because of volunteering. At the age of 9, I'm already expose to this kind of volunteering and I loved it. Still loving it. Then when I got here in this neighborhood, there's two foundation that does this and thankfully one of the two do this every other weekend so I signed up for it and also gives donation every now and then. I'm all ready and good to go. Wearing a comfortable look. Rubber shoes, a t-shirt and a denim pants. I looked up at the clock on my bedroom, it is still 8:30 am. I dressed up early today as I am waiting for my best friend. I am going to go with her, she's got a car and so we decided to just go to the area with her car. I do have a car, but I don't feel like driving today. The volunteering starts at 9:30 and it's a 20 minute drive so we've got more time. "Where are you?" Texted her. "Almost there!" So I waited a little. And I've decided to just continue to read the book on my bed while waiting. After 10 minutes. "I'm here outside, I didn't park. I'm in the side of the road so you better hurry." So I ran fast to the elevator. But decided to take my time because she made me wait too. Muahahhaha I know I look so childish right now but I know that she did it on purpose too, made me wait cause she knows I'm all ready. When I got to the car. She's glaring at me. Haha. I'm laughing in my mind and trying not to put a smile on my face. "What took you so long? You did it on purpose, did you?" She knows me so well. I laugh so hard. I lose it. Can't stand her piss off looking face. "That's what you get for taking the time to get here." And so she started driving and nagging at me now. She blames me that she has to sweet talk the police who lives in the area and gave her a lesson for illegal parking. "I think that policeman is just being rude. He isn't on duty." I told her. "Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that?" With her confused look. I laugh at her again Sometimes, having a friend so innocent is a breath of fresh air. And to the fact that she's older than me. It's rare. We have known each other for so long she's like an older sister. When we get to the area, almost all of the volunteers are here, so we went to our assign task. Today we are going to give out school supplies and some groceries for the parents. Before handing out everything. The President of the foundation is here and gonna give a speech, and also preach to the parents. This is like a church ministry but it's not a church. It's more like evangelism and we give something for them. I joined this foundation not too long ago. I think it's 6 months now. It's actually Kish who introduce me to this foundation, said her hubby is the one managing it. The mission, vision, goal. It speaks to my heart when I went in on their office and inquire. There's just something that I am drawn to with this foundation. Maybe because when I went in the ambiance was so welcoming. Maybe because I have felt that I'm home for the first time. Maybe because I saw the photos of the children around the corner at the entrance, smiling. Or I am just being sentimental. "Ugh, whatever." So yeah. This is how I spend my Saturdays. For the short span of months, I belong to something precious. Immediately went back to my sense when Kish shouted my name. "What are you doing? My handsome husband is almost finished preaching." Yep. The President is her husband. Ironic right? I have known this woman for 3 years and I still can't get over the fact that she's got a husband. When we're hanging out she acts like she doesn't have one. I'm the mature one if other people compare us. So, I organise the snacks we're going to give with the kids. Sometime later. "Ouch, ouch, ouch my back." That's Kish, complaining on my side. We are done with everything. It is almost 6pm and I could use a bath and a long sleep. I tap her back a little with force. "Aww! That hurts!" "Quit the act, Kish. You're being a baby because your hubby is staring at you." I whispered gritting my teeth and forcing a smile. "Why don't you go inside his office and I'll have my peace here." "Meannn!" Then she walk in on Harold's office. She look back again stuck her tongue out and said "one of these days." I just laugh at her. Shaking my head. She always acts like she's the young one and pretend to close my eyes. With a huge smile on my face. Today was a huge success. Satisfying. I love Saturdays. Minutes pass when Kish went inside but why do I feel like someone staring at me? I'm just imagining it maybe. I decided to open my left eye and see if I'm right. Just like in the movies. Everything went slow motion. Dubdubdubdub. There he was. Staring right through me. The man that's been bugging my mind. And he's so freaking close. I froze and stared back with one eye open. Then he blink. "Heyyy! Why are you here?" And then he smile. And so I melt. If I was an airplane, I'd be crashing right now. I blink. Once. Twice. Now I can't stop blinking. Processing what just happened. Finding the right words to respond. "Uhmmm, uhmmm" I need water. I need air. "Hey Phil! You're here!" Harold called out "What took you so long man?" Ahhh! Thank you, Harold. "Are you ok?" Phillip asks me. "Uh, yeah. Hehe. Harold's calling you." He's giving me the confused look and wanted to say something but he stop and continue to face Harold and greeted him. "Man! I forgot that it's peak hours, stuck in a traffic" When he went inside the office, I let out a deep breath. "Wooooo!" Just as I was containing myself. Kish went out and gave me a curious look. "Are you okay?" With her eyebrows cross. "Yes, I am fine. Hehe." Then take a breath again. I feel relax now. "Why is Phillip here?" "Oh yeah, forgot that you know him. He's the Vice President of the foundation and he and my husband have known each other since their college days." I nodded at her words. "Ahhhh" The she continue, "I barely saw him since our wedding. He's in and out of the country. Quite the busy lad." I was only nodding but my mind is floating. Yeah, he's always in and out of the country. That I know. He's the kind of person that always go beyond. He is something from the very start that I got to know him. I smiled from the thought. When I realised what I am doing, My eyes went wide and I slap my face. Shaking my head and silently saying, "No no no no" He was too close earlier. His eyes. Aren't they lovely? Ahhhh! I'm doomed. "You know what? I think I should go." I don't really know why I am rushing. "Huh? What? But you promised we'll eat out today. You promised and I need to tell you something too." Kish suddenly went on serious mode. I felt uneasy but I feel like this is going to be very important. I resigned. "Alright, alright." I said and went back to sit down again. At the restaurant. Harold and Phillip are busy catching up. They have talked about the foundation and also catching up with their lives. Then Phillip mentioned that we both went to the mountains together. "Oh yeah, me and Ari actually just got back from the mountain last week." That caught Kish's and my attention. "Oh, you guys did? How was the climb?" Kish ask. "It was fun and amazing. It's my second climb so I'm pretty much new with climbing." But you can actually see in his eyes that he loves doing it. "Oh it's my first time. A little hard at first but I got through it. A good refresh for me, hehe" And I caught him smiling. Or maybe no. Then we talk some more, and then the waiter came and holding a cake. A whole cake. I burrowed my eyebrows. "Who's birthday is it?" I ask, jokingly. Kish and Harold just smiles and they told me and Phillip to pull the paper. Phillip and I shared a very confused look but we still did what they have told us. "So, this is the reason that me and Harold have gathered both of you here. Since you, Phillip, as my husbands only close friend and you Ari, as my best friend." She's tearing up now and my eyes wants to join in. Right after Kish finishes her little speech. The cake split into two and there it says in the middle. WE'RE PREGNANT! "OH MY GOSH! YOU'RE PREGNANT?" And Kish, she's just nodding and smiling and a teary eyed look. Now my eyes are starting to swell. We hugged. "I am so happy for you. For both of you. You finally did it. You guys did it. " And so this day ended beautifully. With a smile on my face. I went out of the restaurant after everything is settled. I have insisted to Kish that I'll take the cab instead. Beep beep! I take a look where the sound came from and I saw him again. Sigh. I'm doomed. " Hop in, I'll take you home."
