CHAPTER.1
"It is interesting to see how far your business is going and the popularity it has gained, Congratulations Clifford." Mr. Anthony Ethan said cheerfully
"Hahaha, thank you, Anthony. Yes! We have given our best for years now to see the success of this wine business. We hope to strategize to expand and even diversify into other businesses to have multiple streams of income. I am equally impressed," Mr Clifford replied proudly.
"You have done well for yourself. " Mr. Anthony Ethan said as he cleared his throat and continued, "Talking about diversifying, I wanted to discuss with you the Oriental shares sales ongoing, visit and give it a shot, it is worth it. The monthly return of investment is encouraging, and I am making plans to spread this across to different sectors of my company." Mr. Anthony disclosed
"Mmmm, that sounds like a good idea," Mr Clifford said "You have accomplished a lot. This is a good strategy. I know Oriental has been in existence for a long time, but I will still study the investment plan to find out more. I want to understand more about the ROI and the strength of this company. I hope you don't mind?"
"Yeah, I agree with you. I will avail you with all the information you need so you can do your due diligence and arrive at a satisfactory conclusion before further moves." Mr Anthony promised
"That will be helpful. I am counting on that, Anthony." Mr Clifford said.
"Alright Clifford," he said as he stood up, adjusting the collar of his blue T-shirt. "I have to leave now, my wife and I have an appointment with the dentist, and it is almost time".
"Thank you so much for stopping by, my regards to your wife. And please….don't forget to give me the feedback ", Mr Clifford said as he walked him to his car.
"Sure I will, expect my call". Mr Anthony said as he walked into his car and zoomed off.
A wave of dizziness overwhelmed Mr Clifford in his sitting room, each memory of an impulsive investment flashing before him.
"Anthony! What is this I am hearing on the news today?" Clifford asked, panting over the phone.
"Please calm down, things are under control." Mr Anthony Ethan confidently advised. "The Oriental company is going through some financial crisis, and we have emailed all our shareholders informing them about the suspension of further payment of shares, we are only halting temporarily".
"What! Oh my God. Let me check my email". He dropped the phone call and opened his email, "This is not good. "
He dialed his friend Mr Anthony's number, "How could you not notice there was something wrong earlier? I went into buying those shares because you convinced me, I felt you knew better, and it sounded too good to be true. Now look what it has gotten me into", Mr Clifford lamented.
"Clifford, you know I am equally involved in this. Stop making this harder than it already is. Some proof assures me that we have been in existence for years and have mastered things. Things will fall in place gradually ".
These conversations kept echoing in Mr Clifford's head as he grabbed his chest and passed out.
Grace observed her dad falling into the chair. She hurriedly ran to him. "Dad!.. Dad!… Mom, please come."
Grace cried out as she shook her dad to wake up.
Mr Clifford's body felt almost lifeless as Grace struggled to check his pause.
"What is wrong with him?" Mrs Clifford asked, afraid, giving support to put Mr Clifford back in the chair properly.
Mom dials the emergency number, I can't feel Dad's pause…I saw him struggling with his chest.
"Oh my, he must have suffered a heart attack."
With tears gushing down her eyes, she tossed from left to right, confused about where she had dropped her phone. "Okay it's there…" she hurriedly went to her room to pick up the phone.
Just as she dialed the emergency number, she wiped her eyes with the back of her left hand.
"This is the emergency department, what is your emergency?" the voice from the other end asked.
"Please hurry to 106 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642. My husband is in a terrible situation, he struggled with his chest and fell, and we can't feel his pause".
"At what time did the incident happen?" the voice on the other side of the call asked.
"It happened 5 to 6 minutes back" Mrs Clifford replied with a shaky voice; "please come quick," she begged.
"Be calm Ma'am, everything will be fine. We are on our way but if you know CPR please administer it to him before we arrive."
"Yes, I do have basic knowledge of CPR, I will do that right away."
Still in shock, Mrs Clifford hung the call and fell back to the ground where her husband was placed crying, "Please honey don't do this to me, wake up"!
She positioned her husband, making sure he was lying flat on his back, tilted his head back and slightly lifting his jaw and observing if he was breathing, she didn't hear or see any sign of breathing. She placed one hand over the other to start chest compressions by interlocking her fingers. She sobs as she positions her hands in the center of his chest just below his breastbone, straightens her arms, applies her whole body weight, and presses firmly at two inches deep with compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute. She allowed the chest to rise between compressions as she cried out "Honey, please wake up."
She tilted his head back and slightly lifted his chin, making sure his airway was open. She shut his nose and placed her mouth afterward to rescue breath. She blew into her husband's mouth and watched how the chest rise
The sound of the ambulance siren was heard from a distance. As the sound drew closer, Grace said, "That should be the emergency team."
Suddenly, two nurses and a doctor came running towards the entrance of the house with a first aid box and a big hospital bag for doctors.
"Did you administer CPR on him?" the doctor asked.
"Yes I did" Mrs Clifford answered with teary eyes.
"Get me the automated external defibrillator", the doctor requested
Nurse One opened the bag and handed it over to the doctor. he asked the family to step aside as they used the hospital curtain divider to cover Mr Clifford, preventing his wife and daughter from seeing what was happening in there.
The Doctor stripped him of his clothes, leaving him with his boxers as he turned on the automated external defibrillator.
Wiping Mr Clifford's chest dry from sweat, he placed one pad on the upper right side of the chest and placed the other pad on the lower left side of the chest, a few inches below the left armpit. Plugging the pad connector cable into the automated external defibrillator to analyze the heart's rhythm, the doctor commanded" Clear!".
The nurses moved a few steps away from the patient as the Doctor observed Mr Clifford's heart and initiated a shock as he pulled the shock button. He nodded
Grace couldn't sit but moved from one end of the house to another, hugging herself so tight as she displayed restlessness.
"Dear God, I pray for a miracle", Mrs Clifford said in a whisper.
The doctor said excitedly,"Thank goodness".
"Doctor, what is happening," Grace rushed toward him, curious to know what the Doctor had discovered, "how is my dad? Will he be fine?"
