Moving on

Chapter 8

The days passed and Laura was living her full life, she never felt this alive, Colton never ceased to amaze to her. If they didn’t have a meeting at work, he will come and visit her in the office.  And If he was overload with work he will call her, and they will stay talking over the phone for hours, she felt like a teenager again.

Laura hasn’t told him about her marriage. She was trying to find the right moment. Recently her mother has been calling her non-stop. She wasn’t ready to talk to her yet, so she chose to ignore her calls.

“LAURA” her best friend Cassie screeched which made her jump in her seat, she put her hand on her heart.

“What the hell Cassie” Laura glared at her.

‘You’ve spaced out for nearly thirty minutes” Laura rolled her eye. “Tell me what’s bothering you?”

Laura shrugged “nothing”. Cassie glared at her.

“Spill now” Laura sighed in defeat.

“It’s Mom, she been calling me non-stop”

“What does she want again?” Cassie whined.

“I don’t  know I didn’t answer her calls”

“I’m proud of you. You mother is a pain in the ass” Cassie beamed at her.

“Don’t forget that she’s my mother, mind your language” Laura said with a stern face .Cassie rolled her eyes.

“Anyway tell me, how is your relationship with Colton, did you finally do it?”

“Do what?” Laura asked innocently

“Did you have s*x” Cassie blurted, the girl was never shy to express herself

“Cassie” Laura hissed. She was horrified, she was used to Cassie bluntness, but that caught her of guard. Her face turned crimson at the thought of her and Colton having s*x.

“Judging by you face, you didn’t do it “she answered mischievously “yet” she added. And Laura wanted the earth to swallow her.

“Cassie drop the subject” Laura snared

“What are you waiting for? He’s handsome, and I’m sure he’s an expert in that”

“Cassie” Laura hissed

“Jeez, I’m just kidding, no need to be this uptight” Cassie shrugged casually. Laura just rolled her eyes, and continued eating her lunch. They didn’t talk about s*x. He didn’t made advances, and she wasn’t ready to reach that step yet, they’ve just been dating for one month, and it was the best month of her life. Laura received a message from Colton asking if she was free this evening, she replied by yes. He told her that he will come to her house, to take her for dinner to discuss something. It sounded urgent, so she was a bit frustrated that she has to stay until dinner to know what was happening.

Upon hearing the door bell, Laura strode towards her apartment door and opened it, revealing a very handsome Colton, his hair was disheveled.  It was a habit for him to run his fingers through his hair when he was anxious.

“Come in” she opened the door wider for him. He walked in without kissing her, Which worried her.

She sat next to him in a sofa. His gaze was fixed in front of him. His fingers were fidgeting, and she reached to hold his hands on hers. She tugged on his fingers to get his attention, he turned towards her, but his gaze never met hers.

“Are you breaking up with me?” she teased him. He went still after hearing her. He shook his head furiously.

“No, never, what made you say that?” he asked incredulously.

“Your message sounded serious, and you didn’t kiss me, you are evading my eyes, these are all signs of someone wanting to break up” she shrugged her shoulders.

“No, I’m just anxious I want to ask you something”

“Okay” she smiled encouragingly

“Every year, there’s a charity ball, where all the successful companies and influencers attend it. It helps promote the charity so people donate more. And I would like you to come with me”

“When will it take place?” she asked

“This Friday” he answered

“So I still have time to look for a dress”

He looked at her, a big smile stretched on his face he tackled her on the sofa

“Thank you” he showered her face with kisses. He dropped a kiss on her lips, and lingered there. it was a sweet kiss at the beginning but soon it turned passionate, his hand brushed her skin on the side and she ran her fingers through his hair deepening the kiss, the air was thick around her, sensing that she won’t be able to stop him if he continued she out her hand on his chest and pushed him slightly. He put this forehead on hers, she could feel his erratic beating, and they were both breathing hard, he gathered her more in his arms, breathing her scent. He looked at her and smoothed away the strands of hair that were on her face, he cupped her cheek and drooped a quick kiss on lips

“You don’t know how much you make me happy”. His voce was hoarse. She put her hand on his cheek, he leaned his head on it.

“You make me happy too” she whispered.

“You’re the first woman who made me feel this way” he put her hand on his heart” do you feel what you’re doing to me?” his eyes were intense. she nodded her head not trusting her voice when she felt his erratic beating heart. After a couple of minutes of just lying on the sofa he slowly got up

“I need to go. its already late”

“Stay” she blurted, he raised her eyebrow at her “for dinner” she added a blush taking over her face.

“Okay” he smiled slightly” I need to use the bathroom though”

“It’s the first door on the left” he nodded his head and walked to the bathroom.

Laura strode towards the near mirror to look at herself, her face was flushed, and her hair looked like a mess she tried her best comb it., But in vain. Her hair wasn’t cooperating, so she decided to pile it in a high bun. While waiting for him, she ordered some sushi since she has no time to cook.

She was washing some dishes, when Colton circled her waist from the back. He kissed her on the neck.

“I will kill to have this sight everyday”

“So you like the sight of me cleaning” she teased him she knew that this wasn’t what he meant. He turned her so he could look at her and but the smile on her face he knew that she was just teasing him”

“I like the sight of you Laura and I’m so happy that you gave me a chance”

“I’m so happy too” he kissed her temple. Laura sighed in content they stayed there for a while until they heard the doorbell. She attempted to get out of his hold and go to open the door, but he stopped her, and went instead of her.

After paying the deliveryman, they ate in silence, sometimes one of them c***k a jock, and they will both laugh at it

“I had a nice evening” she told him standing on the door way

“Me too, thank you for accepting to come with me”

“My pleasure” she hugged him and went to kiss his cheek, but at the last moment he turned his head, so the kiss landed on his lips. He put his hands around her neck and she hugged his waist. He leaned back.

“I better go” he mumbled his lips brushing hers. She giggled like a teenage girl

“Okay good bye, be careful on your way to your house” he smiled at her

“Don’t worry babe” he winked at her

“I like the sound of that” she blurted, and her face turned crimson when she realized what she said

“The sound of what babe?” he asked mischievously.

“You know what I mean” she giggled.

“Yeah, and I like the sound of that too” he kissed her one “oh before I go I want you to meet  nick he’s a new investor I’m going to work with, he’s investing in my company and he was looking for an interior designer for his sister and I suggested you”

 “Okay. Thank you for finding me a new client” she rolled her eyes.

“You’re welcome” He laughed and kissed her head before he left.

Laura started throwing the leftovers of their dinner, when a sudden thought came to her mind, and her heartbeat started accelerating. what if the nick he was talking about was her ex-husband. She shook her head furiously. What are the odds? Nick is another city, plus he doesn’t have a sister. She assured herself
