Then-Wren Her heart had been beating so fast at the start of our flight that I had almost put her back down again. She had been afraid but not terrified. By the time we were were an hour into our flight. Her heart had calmed down into a more regular pattern. Beating strong and heavy against her ribs. If I didn’t know better I would have said she was enjoying it. “I am enjoying it.” Her voice echoed in my head and for a second my wings stopped beating , we lurched downwards and she have a little scream before I caught myself. “I didn’t say anything.” I hadn’t said a word. I had thought it but I hadn’t said it. And yet she had managed to pluck it out of my head , like she had read my mind. Which was impossible. “You said it in my mind.” She almost sang. “I could hear you plainly.”
