THE PROPOSAL

CHAPTER THREE

Mr Grinelle Bronte, Lily's father sat at the owner's seat of his big car as his driver drove him, he had a very important meeting with some executives and respected officials, it was on their way that the car broke down .

"What exactly do you say is wrong with the car" Mr Bronte who was getting impatient as he was almost running late asked his driver who had been trying to put one or two things together in the cars engine.....

"Sir, I think the engine is bad" The driver replied with a frustrated look, he had worked with Mr Bronte for years and he knows how punctual he is and how he hated to never get late to any place or occasion.

"what do you mean the engine is bad, do something, call the mechanic, do something, you know I cant be late"Mr Bronte ranted, his frustration was so obvious...

Just then Joe Davidson, Sharon's younger brother who happened to be a mechanic, was passing by, he noticed the uneasy look on their faces and decided to find out

"Good afternoon sir, anything the matter sir?"He asked politely as he approached them

"Yes, my car just broke down, and I'm running late for a very important meeting, my driver here can't fix it and we can't reach our mechanic" Mr Bronte explained

"I'm a mechanic , and i can fix your your car, If you don't mind sir" With this words Joe started working and in few minutes the car was back to its best condition..

Mr Bronte was so happy and grateful

"How much is your pay"? he asked

"it's just a thousand naira sir, it wasn't something very serious actually" Joe said to him

Mr Bronte was greatly impressed at his sincerity and honesty, most people knowing he was a wealthy man would seize that opportunity to extort money from him

" Are you serious?, I'll give you ten thousand instead, you've done Noble, can I get your number please, so I can always call when your services are needed" Mr Bronte spoke, they exchanged numbers, Joe thanked him immensely, as he returned back to his shop he wandered if good men like Mr Bronte still exists.

Mr Bronte on the other hand, couldn't stop thinking about Joe, he was greatly impressed, he had always wanted a male child who would carry on his name, he imagined how much of good virtues he would have Instilled in his son, he wished for a moment that Joe was his son.

"That was all she said,I told you this Lily girl is up to no good" Sharon narrated to both her fiance and brother that evening all that had occured earlier on in her house

"I didn't know this girl is still as evil as she was back then, always manipulating people to please her and get all she wants, but my dear, this time around she's gonna be disappointed, we're in this together, I promise you" James said trying to console his troubled girlfriend.

Lily was seen pacing up and down her room with her best friend sitting on her couch staring surprisingly at her, She had never seen Lily this desperate for a man all her life, since Lily had always been an independent and no nonsense lady, as a matter of fact, no man would be able to put up with her arrogance and pride...seeing Lily troubled and so disturbed because of a man was surprising to her....

"you really need to calm down and think" Jayne suggested...

"Don't tell me to be calm, that stranger girl is about to take my man, and you sit there telling me to be calm, until they announce their wedding date, are you even aware that they're already engaged, Jayne , I love James and I can't loose him the second time". Lily explained further....

How about you talk to your parents about it, I'm sure with their influence, they'll be able to get them to do as you want" Jayne suggested

A beam of smile appeared on Lily's face,

"Brilliant!!!" Lily screamed...."I'll talk to Mom and Dad to see them and convince them and possibly threaten them, I'm certain they'll give in and I'll have my man again, oh gosh...I can't wait"Lily said with so much excitement while Jayne just stared at her as she displayed her excitement all over the big room.

Mr Bronte couldn't stop thinking about the honest young man he had met earlier that day,

"People like this deserve to live the best life, not those thieves who are in higher positions, that continues embezzling and stealing from the government, I must get this boy to the top, such humility, honesty, transparency should not be taken for granted" Mr Bronte said to himself and with that, he dipped his hands into his expensive suit trousers were he had kept the paper where he wrote Joe's number, he reached out for it and dailed the number on his big smartphone.

Joe was getting ready to close for the day when his phone rang

"Hello" he said as he reached out for his phone and took the call...

"Hello Joe, this is Mr Bronte, the man whom you helped earlier today" Mr Bronte introduced himself...

"oh, Good afternoon Sir, hope the car didn't give you any issues again sir"

"No, not all, I called to thank you once again for coming to our aid, can we sit out for lunch, I need to speak to you"Mr Bronte said, and Joe agreed, and with that the call ended.

Sharon was making dinner with her fiance assisting her, James had just returned from work and had gone first to see his beloved....

"Babe, I was able to speak with my boss and he's agreed to give me a loan of one million naira, I have been able to save 1million naira, we now have 2miklion, I'll keep looking around to raise more so we can pay for Dads surgery" James explained to his lover, Sharon turned to him in shock, tears rolled down her eyes,. she imagined what she would have done if she didn't have James in her life, she was greatly touched by his love and care for her and her family,

she walked towards him and hugged him,

"Thank you" was all she could mutter..."I'm blessed to have known you" she was finally able to speak after a moment of silent, as she held unto him firmly....James patted her back, he loved her with everything in him and was willing to do anything to see that she was okay.

Lily sat on the couch in their big living room, waiting for her parents arrival....

"Welcome Daddy, " she greeted as she soon as her Dad walked into the living room,

He was surprised to see her sitting there, she rarely leaves her room and if she does she's going out with friends or to the hospital

"How are you my princess"? Mr Bronte asked while still trying to figure out why she was there

"I'm not fine Daddy, I'm troubled, someone is threatening my happiness" Lily said with a pretentious frown on her face, just then Mrs Bronte walked in

"Welcome Mommy" She greeted....

"Welcome darling" Mr Bronte greeted his beloved wife

"Thank you honey, how are my darling" Mrs Bronte replied to both her husband and daughter..

"I was just telling Daddy that I'm not fine and how that someone is threatening my happiness, and I need my parents to do something about it" Lily went further to say....

"Your Father and I just got home from work and we're exhausted, whatever it is can we talk about it at dinner?" Mrs Bronte suggested and Mr Bronte nodded in affirmation....

"No.....I want to speak with you both now, it's really urgent and my life is being threatened" Lily lied and her parents who would rather give up anything for their daughter, sat back to listen to what she had to say even though there were so exhausted....

Lily narrated her ordeal to her parents

"what do you want us to do now?" Mr Bronte asked...Lily was getting impatient, this wasn't the reaction she had required from her parents,

"I want James at all cost, and I trust that you both can make that happen" Lily said with a frown....

"my darling, you shouldn't force your way into a man's life, if he loves you, he'll come for you, but if not, he will disregard you and won't love you the way you want, money doesn't buy love my dear" Mrs Bronte spoke

"And besides, it will be injustice on ur side to threaten that young lady whom according to what you've said is dealing with alot already, all because you want her man" Mr Bronte added.

Lily was furious, she burst out crying as she ran upstairs to her room...

"You've spoilt this child, you allowed her to always get all she wanted, even when I tried stopping you, now look, she wants us to threaten a lady and take her man from her for her sake" Mrs Bronte queried Mr Bronte as they headed for their super bedroom upstairs...

"She's my only child, did you expect me to say no to the things I can provide for her, weren't you in support of most of them as well" Mr Bronte fired back.

"Now make sure to provide this for her, I'll not be a part of ruining another person's life just for her,". Mrs Bronte asked...

"Don't make this any harder than it is, ofcourse I won't do that, Lily has been an ungrateful and heartless child, imagine what she's asking us to do, I won't be a part of it either," Mr Bronte added, shocked at how mannerless his beloved daughter had become....
