When I interviewed Linda Edwards, among the things she told me about her ex was he could trace his family back to Aaron Burr, and his famous grandfather, Jonathan Edwards, a co-founder of Princeton. Burr famously put a bullet into Alexander Hamilton and lived in infamy. Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God was the name of Jonathan Edwards’ famous sermon promising eternal agony dangling by a hair over the fires of hell to those not in favor with The Almighty. In college, I’d been struck enough by the sermon to look up the preacher. The portrait in an American survey book reflected a small, pinched mouth and a vulpine nose lying beneath shadowed, deep-lidded eyes. A face that could express disdain or derision with equal ease.
