“Even salt looks like sugar...”
CHAPTER SIX
Luna’s POV:
My eyes opened slowly, letting the window light through them, trying not to go completely blind. Someone was frantically knocking on the bedroom door, but my brain still wasn't aware of what was going on.
"Luna?" I heard the red-haired girl's voice, which apparently was called Sheila, sound on the other side of the wooden door.
"Come on in." I said sitting on the bed and looking at the door that quickly opened. The extremely beautiful girl entered. She wore a beautiful black wool dress with long sleeves that perfectly shaped her body.
"I brought you some more clothes so you can go out today." Sheila said dropping a small pile of clothes on the end of the bed. “In fact, I was unable to present myself properly. I am Sheila, mate of Charles, the beta of the pack." Her words came hurriedly.
"I'm Luna." My voice came out low and still a little hoarse. I didn't want to look so scared, but I wasn't used to being in contact with many people. I was still getting used to being close to Lucifer, and now suddenly there was Sheila too.
"I know." She said with a smile. "Now get ready, before Lucifer changes his mind and don't let us go!" She said with a giggle and I quickly got up from the bed and grabbed the clothes, going to the bathroom.
I put on a plaid skirt of blood red and beige wool glued to the body, which I thought was a little short, but admitted that I thought I was beautiful in it. I also put on a wide cream sweater, which I put into the skirt. The shoe that Sheila had given me was a black heel citrine, which I put on. I split my wavy golden hair in half and tried to look as personable as possible.
It wasn't quite my style of clothing, but actually, I never really had a style. I wore the few clothes Hayle brought me, until after a while I only had my grandmother's red cloak.
"Ah, you look beautiful!" Sheila said extremely happy when I left the bathroom and I unconsciously chuckled. "Come on." She said, pulling my hand to leave the room.
We went down the stairs and as soon as we arrived at the entrance hall I saw three people there. There was a boy a little older than me, standing there, watching us. I figured it was Flynn, because the other two people were Lucifer talking absently to Charles.
Lucifer’s POV:
When my eyes met the two girls, I felt a strange sensation in my stomach. My eyes don't leave the girl. What's happening to me?
She wore Sheila's clothes, and although it didn't look like something she would wear, she looked beautiful. Strangely, I would not praise her as hot, although she is, I would probably call her pretty or beautiful. Stunning maybe.
"Are you going already?" I asked taking my wallet out of my jeans pocket and handing my unlimited card to Sheila
"Yes, we will probably be there all day!" Sheila replied while Luna kept her gaze on her feet.
"Here, my love." Charles did the same as me and handed his credit card over to Sheila, who returned it with a loving smile.
I had seen them meet and fall in love when they found out they were mates. So I followed them for a long time. I admitted that I admired their love, so strong that nothing would separate them. I would catch myself a few seconds wondering what my life would be like if I had a mate... but that was not possible.
"Luna, can I talk to you?" I asked without even realizing it, and the girl's eyes met mine. I started walking to a far corner and she instantly started to follow me.
Why the hell did I call her? I don't even have anything to say!
“Um… just to say that you don't have to… um… worry. Flynn will be with you all the time and Hayle would never be able to catch you." I felt my words lift a weight from her back because the breath that came from her beautiful lips was clearly of relief. She didn't answer but nodded slowly. “And choose a beautiful dress. The balls here are very elegant." I said, not wanting her to appear in a very simple dress and be embarrassed.
"I have a feeling that Sheila is not going to let me make a mistake." She replied with a giggle and I realized it was the first time I was seeing her lighter.
"I'm sure you will have fun."
When the girls left it was time to go back to business. Me, Charles, and Jake were in my office, the two of them sitting on the chairs in front of my table.
"You started a war with Hayle, are you crazy?" Charles clearly looked concerned, but I wasn't caring too much. "We are bigger in number but Hayle has a lot of connections!"
"Maybe you should talk to your dad, he can help you." As soon as the innocent words left Jake's lips, my gaze penetrated his, as did Charles's. Although he clearly tried to say something to Jake just by looking at him, which was impossible since Jake never understood anything.
“First of all, I don't have a father. And just for the record, the next time you give a stupid idea at that level, Jake, I'm going to break every bone in your body and then give you the dogs to eat. Do you understand?" I spoke extremely seriously, my eyes fully fixed on the boy, who had clearly been a little scared. “We don't have to worry about that i***t. He will not have the courage to attack us.”
“You should just give her to him. Who cares anyway?” Charles said a little annoyed.
Nobody really cared. Apparently she was totally alone and the only person behind her was Hayle. But I couldn't hand her over even if I wanted to. I needed to know who she was. Especially because after hearing Marie's report, and seeing Luna's despair at hearing his name, I would never give her up in this situation.
“Charles, she has white fur. Snow white! I need to know why!" I said and apparently he noticed how outraged I was because he just nodded.
"But you have black hair." Jake said and he clearly looked confused.
"Yes..."
"So she is just like you!" He spoke as if he had solved all of our problems, and Charles let out a tired breath.
"Why is he even the delta?" He asked but I decided to ignore it and respond to Jake, who now looked extremely offended by Charles's stupid comment.
"It's impossible, Jake." I said calmly, and expected an 'Oh, ok' from him, but he looked even more thoughtful.
“There was a time when it was impossible for someone to have fur as black as darkness.” His words, unbelievably, entered my mind and stayed there. Was she really like me? And what did that mean?
But she was nothing like me. Luna was not a killer. She was... pure light.
Luna’s POV:
Lucifer was right when he said that I would have fun. Sheila was just incredible and very funny. We had made basic purchases for everyday life, since I didn't have any clothes at Lucifer's pack. And now we were going to choose our dresses for the pack's ball.
I found myself opening up more and making myself lighter as time passed. At first I was watching everyone around us, ready to run. But then I let go, not least because Flynn was always ten feet away from us.
Sheila had told me how she met Charles, and it was just the cutest thing. I could say that her life was the life I had dreamed of since I was a child. Meet my mate who loved me above all, the way I am. After all, he is the only person who must love me unconditionally. But maybe... a mate wasn't for me. After all, I was already 21 years old, and I still hadn't found him. I preferred to lie to myself and say that the reason was that I was stuck during those years.
"What do you think of this?" Sheila showed me the dress she had tried on. It was an extremely beautiful dress.
The dress had a heart neckline and the sleeves went from shoulder to shoulder. The color was a slightly greenish turquoise blue, which matched her skin tone and hair. The model was tight at the waist and loose on the skirt, which ended just before her knees.
"You look beautiful." I replied with a smile and she opened a huge smile on her face.
"Thanks. It's Charles's favorite color, so I decided to use it." She spoke and I instantly saw love in the gleam of her eyes.
"You guys are really cute." Sheila was going to answer me but as if an idea had popped into her head, she ran over to a rack of red dresses. She moved quickly through the dresses, choosing the perfect one, which made me frown, since she said blue was Charles' favorite color.
"Try this one!" Sheila quickly handed me a metallic red dress and shoved me into the dressing room.
I started to put on the dress and in fact it was beautiful. It was short, with a bust very tight to the waist, and then opened in a beautiful flowing skirt, shorter in the front, and long to the feet behind.
"It has a very visible neckline." I complained looking at the neckline that highlighted my breasts. The curtain quickly opened and Sheila stuck her face through the hole.
"The cleavage shows almost nothing, and you don't have a mate so you throw yourself out." She said and I couldn't help but giggle.
"But isn't red too flashy?" I asked, adjusting the dress on my body.
"It's Lucifer's favorite color."
"What?" I looked at her with wide eyes. "And why should I use it!"
"'Cause you will look great together if I convince him to wear a red tie?" Although it was a question, her duh tone showed that it was rhetorical, which made me quickly shake my head.
"No, no, I'll take another--"
"Ok... look." Sheila grabbed me by the shoulders and turned me around to face the mirror again. She rested her chin on my shoulder and the sensation was strange. "Did you like the dress?"
"Yes..." I replied as if I was a child being scolded.
“Then take it for you. Red is just one color. You look beautiful and that's what matters." Sheila spoke with a sincere smile and I caught myself smiling too.
"Okay," I said and she quickly clapped her hands in happiness. "But you're not going to convince him to wear a red tie!" I said a little annoyed, even though she knew I wasn't really.
"Babe, he will wear one without me having to ask... he loves that tie." She said with a giggle, which made me drop one too.
We ended up coming back extremely late and full of bags in our hands. Flynn and Sheila helped to take everything to my room, and then each went to their own. It had been good to disappear and forget a little of what was happening in my life.
But while I organized all my new clothes in the closet I couldn't help thinking about all the turmoil I was creating for that pack just because I was here. I should run away, that way Hayle would get out of Lucifer's glue. He had only helped me and in the end I would end up harming him and his family. And I couldn't do that.
It was decided, after going to the Oracle with him, and fulfilling my part of the agreement, I would run away from that pack.
I didn't know where I was going, as long as I was as far away from those people as possible... I couldn't put them in danger.
