Chapter 1: The Unexpected Betrayal
Mina's POV
"Why would you do such a thing to me? I loved you; I trusted you, but look what you gave me in return. You made me lose my license."
I yelled at the man in front of me who was once my boyfriend.
I waited patiently for him to explain himself because nobody in their right mind would be calm about losing their license they have worked all their life for.
"I didn't know Jack misinterpreted what I said. All I told him was you could do anything to win a case you've been assigned to. Kelvin said as his voice became low.
After I had him speak, my breath became inconsistent as I was letting out little sighs. My mind was racing as I clenched my fists together.
I stomped my feet on the ground while pacing back and forth and also clenching my fists. My face was reddening as I glanced at Kelvin.
"Hear yourself speak, anything... anything." I spoke rather harshly. I couldn't contain myself anymore.
"I didn't have a chance to think twice about how I spoke because we lost the case over your company."
He paused for a bit before he continued. He wasn't keeping a straight face; there was no way I could find out if he was feeling guilt.
"One way or the other, it's true. Aren't you the type of person to open your legs for men all in the name of connection?" He responded without any sign of remorse as he had a firm face.
My jaw dropped from what I heard Kelvin say. "Kel… Kelvin, how could you?" My breaths came in short gasps as I shouted back at him.
My hands and legs shaking, I couldn't see Kelvin clearly as my tears were covering my eyesight.
Simultaneously, goosebumps were erupting from my skin as my breath started to shake, so I grabbed my chair to sit.
"Oh please, everyone knows you plan on having your own law firm, and there's no possible way you can achieve that with those petty cases you've been handling unless you are secretly opening your legs to those filthy billionaires." He declared harshly.
Kelvin was standing tall as he held his chin like he didn't know the gravity of what he just spoke.
There was no hint of a smile on his face as he kept standing in the same position he had been in.
My pulse quickened as the words he spoke sliced right through my heart.
Sniffling back my sobs while my heart was pounding beneath my chest, likewise my head, as it was difficult to assimilate what was happening.
I couldn't see the disgusting fellow at my front properly, so I lifted my wrist to wipe my tears with the back of my palm even though the tears won't stop coming.
"Since when have you been having those thoughts? Was that why you broke up with me even though you claimed both our dreams were different?"
"Was that why you created that fake video of me seducing men, or is it because both our companies are rivals?"
I kept on throwing questions at him, hoping it was not true what he said.
Kelvin was still standing in a sleek figure as his eyes remained cold, not bothering if those words he said would hurt me.
"Whichever reply you decide on is fine by me; I don't need to keep explaining myself over and over again."
He said while gesturing with his hands like he was ready to leave my office, leaving me to sort out all this mess alone.
I couldn't let him leave like that. Just as he was about to leave, I walked towards him, making him pause.
I raised my hands up in the air and smacked his face with my soft palm with all the strength I could muster; I slapped him.
The sound echoed in the room like a glass substance shattering. His eyes widened in disbelief as neither of us saw it coming.
Just as he was about to raise his jaw to speak, I shouted with all my might as I pointed towards the door.
"Out of my office, my life. Everything that has to do with me, stay away from me. I will make you realize what you did is going to be the biggest mistake of your entire life."
His expression changed to something I couldn't even define; probably he was feeling guilty or otherwise.
Nevertheless, he was out of my office a bit as he slammed the door so hard.
All alone in my office, my eyes wandered on my stuff in the office: my robe, my wig, my nameplate, etc.
I had always dreamt of having my own law firm. I was doing fine with the amount of cases I had won only if I hadn't just lost my license to the rumor.
It's still hard to understand the facts about Kelvin. He bluntly said those words to my face, how he thinks I would open my legs just to get what I want.
With tears streaming down my face and my chest heaving as my breath came lightly while trying so hard to hold my tears before this office will turn to a pool of my sadness.
My mind replayed back to a moment I noticed a red flag from Kelvin, which I blinded and ignored with love.
How could I miss the fact that Kelvin is not happy whenever I win a case over him?
It always felt like he was pressured by his superiors, not knowing he was plotting towards my dismissal.
I started packing my files and arranging them into my box, then I picked up the nameplate on the table, not expecting the feeling of excitement I once felt would be filled with sadness.
My lips trembled as my eyes were blurred with tears while holding onto the nameplate.
My eyes sparkled with disbelief as I stared at the nameplate with my name engraved on it, written in bold, white letters, "Senior Lawyer Mina Stevens."
The nameplate was once evidence of my success in getting close to achieving my dream as a CEO.
The smile I once had on my face while holding the nameplate engraved with my name soon turned to a face brimmed with sadness and disbelief.
As I had already lost my license and rights of becoming a lawyer, I carried the box holding my stuff and made my way to my car.
Whispers were flying around in the air as I kept walking towards the entrance of the law firm.
"That's her, isn't she disgusting? Seducing men in order to open her firm." A petite lady I once knew had a saucy mouth.
Never had I expected I would be the talk of the topic.
Her partner scoffed softly, "I can't believe she was once my role model; she's a big shame in the entire history of lawyers."
Those two made it look like they were having a soft discussion, but they spoke loud and clear enough for me to hear how disgusting I looked.
Whispers like that kept flowing as I walked towards the lobby with my chin held up high even though my stomach was filled with butterflies.
My mind was thinking of strategies to clear my name and continue my successful journey.
Finally, the main door to the company was staring at me. I felt like I was being pulled by the ground, turning the short distance into an endless maze.
