CHAPTER FIVE: HIS OWN Simon reels back, his face draining of color. "What? No, I didn't..." His voice trails off as he searches for a way to deny the accusation. "You liar," Xavier hisses, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction at Simon's reaction. "She was supposed to die, but she didn't. And now she's mine to use." He turns his gaze on Melissa, who is trembling with shock and fear. "Did you know your dear Simon here was responsible for your family's deaths? That he tried to kill you, too?" Mel buried her face in Xavier's chest and whispered he should take her away I will," Xavier murmurs, his voice low and possessive. He pulls Melissa closer, sheltering her against his chest, his eyes never leaving Simon's face. "Come with me, Melissa. You're mine now. And don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you. Not as long as you're useful to me." Melissa clings to him, numb with shock and betrayal. "Take me away from here," she whispers, her voice shaking. "Take me away from him." Simon drew out a knife Simon's eyes flash with desperation and fury, his grip on the knife tightening. "Let her go, Woods," he growls. "I won't let you take her. I'll kill you before I let you ruin her life." Xavier's smirk widens, his arrogance undiminished. "Oh, please. Do you really think you can take me on, Simon? I'm not some weak-willed hack like you. " Simon please tell me if what he said is true. Simon's expression falters, his eyes pleading with Melissa. "Mel, I swear, I didn't mean for this to happen. It was an accident, I swear. I just wanted to get rid of Xavier. He was going to ruin everything, and..." Xavier snorts, interrupting him. "Pathetic. You don't even have the courage to tell her the truth. She deserves better than a sniveling little coward like you." Melissa stares at Simon, her heart shattering into a million pieces. "Simon, please. is that why you hired a hitman? I almost died Simon" Simon's face crumples, tears forming in his eyes. "I'm sorry, Mel. I never meant for you to get hurt. I just...I was scared. I didn't know what to do. Xavier was going to take everything away from us. I thought if he was gone, we could have the life we deserved." His voice cracks, betraying his despair. "I never wanted to hurt you." "you used me as a bait Simon" "I know, I know," Simon sobs, dropping to his knees. "I was a fool, I see that now. I should have never involved you in this. I should have protected you. But I was blinded by greed and ambition. I wanted everything so badly, and I didn't care what I had to do to get it." His words are choked with shame and regret. Xavier watches the exchange with cold amusement. Melissa's expression softens, her anger melting away in the face of Simon's obvious remorse. "I forgive you, Simon," she whispers, her voice cracking. "But I can't stay here. I can't stay with you." Simon nods, his shoulders slumped in defeat. "I know. You deserve better than this. You deserve better than me. Just...go with Xavier. At least he'll keep you safe. He might be a monster, but he's a powerful one." Xavier gives Simon one last, disdainful look before turning away, his arm around Melissa's waist. "Let's go, my dear. You've got a new life waiting for you now." Melissa climbs into the passenger seat of the luxurious Rolls-Royce, her hands trembling slightly. Xavier slides in beside her, buckling her seatbelt and giving her a small, knowing smile. "Don't worry, my love. You're safe with me now." The Rolls-Royce purrs to a stop in front of a sprawling estate, the grounds lit by ornate lamp posts that gleam like jewels in the night. Xavier helps Melissa out of the car, his hand lingering on her lower back as he leads her up the marble steps to the front door. The heavy oak door swings open before they even reach it, revealing a stately butler waiting to greet them. "Good evening, Mr. Woods," the butler says, bowing slightly. "And madam. Shall I take your coats?" Melissa is struck by the grandeur of her surroundings, her eyes wide with wonder. The foyer alone is larger than her entire apartment, the walls adorned with priceless art and the floors gleaming with polished marble. She removes her coat, her gaze flickering between the butler and Xavier, unsure of what to say. Xavier, on the other hand, seems completely at ease in his opulent surroundings. He waves away the butler and ushers Melissa into the living room, a cozy space filled with plush sofas and a roaring fireplace. He pushed her against the wall and spoke softly. Xavier leans in close, his breath warm against her ear. "Now that we're alone, my dear Melissa, let's talk about what you're really here for." His fingers trail down her arm, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake. "You're a hacker, a thief. And now you're my wife. I think it's time you put those skills to use for me. Melissa shivers, her heart pounding against her ribcage. "What do you want me to do?"Xavier nuzzles closer, his lips brushing against the sensitive skin of her neck. "I want you to hack into my competitors' systems," he murmurs, his breath hot against her skin. "Steal their secrets, their plans, their code. Give me the edge I need to crush them into dust." He pauses, his teeth grazing her earlobe before continuing. "In return, I'll give you anything you want. She bit her lips "Is that a yes?" Xavier asks, his eyes glittering with excitement. "Do we have a deal?" Melissa hesitates, her mind racing. She knows this is a dangerous game she's playing, but part of her can't resist the lure of the forbidden. "What if I refuse?" she whispers, her voice barely above a whisper. Xavier laughs, a low, dark chuckle that sends shivers down her spine. "Oh, my darling Melissa. You're not in a position to refuse." "no I refuse" Xavier's eyes narrow, his expression hardening. "You're not going to make this easy for me, are you?" He steps back, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. "Listen, Melissa. You have no idea what I'm capable of. I could make your life a living hell, or I could make you a queen." He takes a deep breath, his voice growing softer. "I'm offering you the world, Melissa. Don't be a fool and turn it down." "I am only your wife I won't engage in any other thing even if it means helping you" Xavier stares at her, his face like stone. "So, you won't help me. Fine. But make no mistake, Melissa. You may be my wife, but you're not my equal. You belong to me, body and soul." He turns on his heel, his footsteps echoing through the hallway. "Enjoy the rest of your evening. We'll talk more in the morning." As he disappears into the darkness, Melissa is left alone in the living room, a chill creeping down her spine.
