Chapter nineteen
Arthur sighed again for the tenth time as Carolyn kept on bugging him.
"Haven't we reached your house yet. I think we are just going in circles".
Carolyn scoffed. "Oh please what do you think you are trying to say. I know where my house is. I know the way. So keep driving".
Arthur stopped the car. "You know we've been driving for one hour. I think you don't know the way to your house".
Carolyn looked back and forth. "Why the hell did you stop the car here. Do you realize where we are".
Arthur looked around and gasped in fear. He tried starting the car but it didn't start. He tried it again but it still didn't start.
"What the hell went wrong with your f*****g car. Make it start now!". Carolyn shouted.
"You aren't blind Carolyn, you can see it's not starting no matter how hard I try". Fear was eating Arthur up. Why the hell won't the car start.
"What should we do, we need to do something, we can't stay here forever". Carolyn shouted and Arthur winced.
"Would you keep quiet I'm trying for goodness sake Carolyn. Just shut the hell up or try to keep quiet just do something other than shouting at me".
"I can't do anything, I can't concentrate. I just can't". Carolyn was shaking and Arthur stoped whatever he was doing to look at her. It was like she was going true some passed experience again. Like some trauma or something. She was really shaking in fear.
"Get me outside of here Arthur, I want to get out. Get me out." Carolyn shouted shuddering.
Artur felt guilty, he didn't know for crying out loud and if Carolyn kept on shouting they could get noticed. He had no idea he had stopped at the main area where the dangerous fights happened. They r***d, killed and kidnap people here. But the way Carolyn was shaking. It meant she had gone through one of this things and she had not gotten over it.
"Carolyn you need to calm down".
"I can't, the memories keep coming back, my mum. My mom. She's in trouble I can't do anything. I can only watch. Help me save her. Help me save her". Carolyn cried out and sobbed. "Save my mom".
Arthur groaned in discomfort. He was now really feeling guilty. He tried the car one more time and the car came to life but it was too late. Carolyn opened the door and ran out shouting her mother's name.
"Need to save my mom. She needs help. Daddy is not picking his phone". She shouted as she ran.
Arthur cursed as he ran after her.
"Carolyn stop running, control yourself you are going to get us in trouble". Carolyn didn't stop, she kept on running and she was crying as she did.
"My mom, my mom is in trouble".
Arthur caught up with her and held her from running further.
He hugged her to his chest and Carolyn sobbed. "My mom. She's there. They'll kill her. Dad is not picking his calls. I've tried, I don't want her to die".
"It okay, it's okay. It's in your mind. It's not happening for real. Calm down Carolyn. Just try to calm down. Nothing is happening. Your just overthinking it. Breath in Carolyn. Breath in breath out". Carolyn did as he said still resting on his chest.
She sneezed. "Thank you. I just get really emotional sometimes". She raised her head and cleaned her eyes. "I'm sorry for acting inconsiderate. Just get me home".
Arthur nodded and let her go. "That was really awkward. Let's go back". They both walked to the car but was surprised to see people there. And by people they meant men in Black. They stopped walking forward and ran back towards the bush they saw when coming.
"If I die here I'm never going to forgive you". Carolyn whispered. Arthur scoffed. "I should be the one saying that. You are the reasons. We are still here and don't you forget that". They stopped and rested behind a tree. Carolyn was breathing hard.
"Do you think they followed us".
"I don't think so". Arthur replied. "But one thing I know is that. My car is gone. And how the hell are we supposed to get home".
"I don't know Arthur and I'm starting to get cold". Carolyn shuddered. Arthur looked at her and sighed. He took of his jacket.
"Here take, this should warm you up".
Carolyn looked at him and smiled.
"Thank you". She collected it and put it on. "So what are we going to do. We can't just go back to the car or walk home. It's too dangerous we might meet another crew".
Arthur nodded. "Then I think we are sleeping here. But wait a minute. My phone should be with me". Arthur searched his pocket and cursed. "s**t, I left it in the car".
"Mine is also in the car".
"Then we're stuck here all night. It Should be safer in the morning".
Arthur picked up a log and sat on it. He shifted a little so it could contain them.
Arthur sighed. "You wanna talk about what happened to your mom".
Carolyn froze. "It's okay if you don't want to". Arthur quickly added when he saw her reaction.
"No it's okay. I'd like to talk about it to". Carolyn said and sighed. Arthur nodded.
"My mum and I were coming back on a road trip. Our car went out of gas on the way so we had to come down. We had no idea what we were coming down to. The rain was so heavy we had no idea were we were. And the network was bad". Carolyn cried as she talked about it and Artur wiped her tears but she kept on talking. "We tried calling my dad but he wasn't picking his calls. My mom told me to get back into the car that she would try to find something to do. I shouldn't have left her. I should have told her to stay with me. The car was much more safer. Carolyn sobbed as she talked. We didn't expect it. I heard her scream. It was so scary I wanted to jump out of the car cause I wasn't seeing anything. The rain made everything blurry. And then I heard her voice. She was crying and shouting. Telling me not to come down from the car. She told me to call father. I had no idea what was happening but sometimes I'll hear her scream and I'll be so tempted to come down. But then she'll shout and threaten me not come down". Carolyn wailed out. "They were r****g her. I heard the men laughing. They were f*****g laughing. They were enjoying her torture. But they had no idea she was talking to me. Or that someone else was in the car".
"Don't talk again. Stop talking Carolyn". Arthur shaked her when he saw how her fist tightened her hand was dripping of blood. Her fingers had pressed into her palm.
"No let me talk. I want everything out". She shrugged her shoulder of Arthur's hands.
