Low murmuring, like water crashing on the world’s shortest waterfalls, babbled in the hall at every hour of every day, excepting the lord’s days and the one hour every day the hall was cleaned. It was a hall built for tables, and where there were tables and wine, there would be men to enjoy them both. The tables held games as well: crowns, daggers, and even a single table for the fighting of snakes, that one drew the most attention most nights. Most of the tables held boards for the game Kaighe; a game, that much like the men who played it, was far older than the others, and that held itself haughtily higher as well.
