THE DREAM'S ECHO: The melody of fate

1514 Words
As the doorbell rang, Ava's heart skipped a beat. She knew it was Sophie, coming over to see the painting and hear more about the mysterious girl. Ava took a deep breath and opened the door to find Sophie bouncing up and down on the porch, a huge grin on her face. "I'm so excited to see this painting!" Sophie exclaimed. Ava laughed and stepped aside, letting Sophie into the house. As they climbed the stairs, Sophie chattered nonstop about her summer. When they reached the studio, Sophie's eyes widened as she took in the painting. "Wow, Ava, this is incredible!" Sophie breathed. Ava nodded, feeling a surge of pride. As they left for the party, Ava's mind kept drifting back to the girl in her dream. Later that night, Ava, Sophie, and Attracta arrived at the party. As they made their way through the crowded room, the music grew louder and more energetic. They pushed through the throng of people and found themselves near the front. Ava, Sophie, and Attracta started dancing, lost in the rhythm and melody. Sophie and Attracta were swept up in the energy, dancing with a group of friends. Jamie appeared by Ava's side, flashing his charming smile. "Hey, gorgeous," he said, taking her hand. As they danced together, Jamie leaned in close. "Hey, Ava, what's up with you?" he asked, his voice low. "You seem...distracted lately." Ava hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Just then, the MC picked up the mic, greeting the crowd. "Welcome back, everyone, to another amazing year!" he boomed. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause. The MC grinned, surveying the crowd. "We've got an amazing night ahead of us, and I'm excited to share it with all of you." He paused for dramatic effect. "Now, I know we're all here to celebrate the start of a new year, but I've got a special treat for you all." The crowd cheered again, and the MC smiled. "Please put your hands together for a talented musician who's going to blow your minds!" The crowd erupted into applause once more. A figure emerged from the shadows, walking confidently up to the microphone. She was a girl with long, curly brown hair and piercing green eyes. Her style was eclectic and edgy, with a flowy black dress and combat boots. Sophie, dancing in the corner, turned back to see the girl. Her eyes narrowed, trying to place the familiar face. Where had she seen that girl before? Sophie's eyes remained fixed on the girl, her mind racing. But before she could quite put her finger on it, the girl began to sing. Her voice soared through the crowded room, infectious and energetic. The crowd started dancing again, lost in the rhythm and melody. Ava and Jamie danced together, swept up in the energy. As the music came to an abrupt end, the crowd erupted into applause once more. The girl smiled, bowing graciously as the MC returned to the stage. As they walked out of the party, Jamie wrapped his arm around Ava's shoulders. "So, what did you think of the party?" he asked. Ava smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. "It was amazing," she replied. Jamie grinned, his eyes sparkling with amusement. As they reached Jamie's car, he turned to Ava, his eyes serious. "Hey, can I ask you something?" he said. Ava's heart skipped a beat. "What is it?" she asked. Jamie's eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense. "What's going on with you, Ava? You seem...distracted lately." Ava's mind went blank. What could she tell him? That she was obsessed with a mysterious girl from her dreams? That she felt a strange connection to this girl that she couldn't explain? She hesitated, unsure of how to respond. But before she could say anything, Jamie's phone buzzed, breaking the moment. As Ava joined Sophie and Attracta in the car, Sophie asked, "What's up?" Ava smiled, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. "Just thinking about tonight," she said. Attracta leaned over, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What about the party?" she asked. Ava laughed. "It was amazing! I had so much fun." Sophie's expression turned thoughtful, and she frowned slightly. "You know, I saw someone on stage tonight," she said. Ava's curiosity was piqued. "Who was it?" she asked. Sophie hesitated, her eyes scanning the road ahead. "I'm not sure. I've seen her before, but I couldn't quite place her." Attracta nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, I saw her! She's absolutely stunning." Ava's eyes widened with interest. "What did she look like?" she asked. Attracta smiled dreamily. "She has this long, curly brown hair and the most piercing green eyes." Ava froze, her breath catching. "Piercing green eyes," she repeated softly. A fleeting image flickered in her mind—a pair of emerald eyes gazing back at her. As they neared Ava's house, the hum of the car grew softer. Sophie turned onto her street, the headlights cutting through the darkness. "Thanks for the ride," Ava said as they pulled up to her driveway. "Anytime," Sophie replied with a warm smile. "Sleep well, okay?" Ava nodded, though her mind was far from calm. As she stepped out of the car, the cool night air kissed her skin. She glanced up at the sky, the moon hanging low. The image of the girl lingered in her mind. Shaking her head, Ava headed inside. As sleep finally crept in, Ava's dreams returned with startling clarity. This time, she wasn’t just a spectator. She stood in a dimly lit room, the air thick with the hum of music in the background. The girl from her dreams was there, standing before her, her green eyes locking onto Ava's with a magnetic intensity that made her heart race. "Ava," the girl whispered, her voice soft yet unmistakable. Ava's hand reached out instinctively, as though drawn by some unseen force. But just as their fingers were about to touch, the dream dissolved into darkness. Ava woke with a start, her chest heaving. Her heart continued to pound in her chest, a strange mix of fear and exhilaration coursing through her veins. The girl’s presence still felt so real, as if she had truly been there, just a breath away. Ava lay back down, staring at the ceiling, her mind racing. Who was this girl? And why did it feel like she was destined to find her? The questions swirled in her mind, but no answers came. As the minutes ticked by, Ava finally drifted back to sleep, though the image of the girl and the lingering echo of her name followed her into the depths of her dreams. Ava’s mind swirled in the aftermath of the dream. The image of the girl lingered like a whisper in the corners of her mind. She could still feel the soft brush of her skin, the electric charge of their almost-touch. It wasn’t just a dream—it felt too vivid, too real, as if something had shifted, as if the world between them had been torn open. Suddenly, the room around Ava seemed to grow colder. Her blankets, once warm, felt heavy and foreign. She shifted in her sleep, but the sensation lingered, like a presence at the edge of her consciousness. Through the haze of her sleep, she heard a soft, melodic humming. It was distant at first, like a song carried by the wind, but then it grew clearer, louder, until it echoed in her ears, inside her skull. Ava’s heart thudded in her chest. In the dream, the girl’s voice was there again. But this time, it wasn’t a whisper. It was calling her name, low and urgent. “Ava…” The voice reverberated through her mind, stirring her awake with a gasp. But just as she opened her eyes, the humming stopped, replaced by silence. Ava lay still in her bed, her breathing shallow. The room was quiet, and the cool darkness enveloped her once more. But the feeling of being watched, of being pulled toward something unknown, gnawed at her. Her pulse raced as her eyes flicked to the corner of her room, half-expecting to see the girl standing there. She sat up in bed, glancing around, but there was nothing. Nothing except the quiet hum of the house settling around her. But something felt different—like a thread connecting her to that other world, one that wasn’t entirely asleep. Ava shivered and pulled the covers tightly around herself, but she couldn’t shake the sense that she wasn’t alone. As she lay back down, her gaze lingered on the window, where the faint glow of the moon bathed the room in soft light. She closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep, but the feeling didn’t fade. In her dream, the girl’s eyes had burned into her, piercing her like emerald flames. The sensation was still with her, a pull she couldn’t explain. Ava knew one thing for sure—this wasn’t over. Ava’s heart raced. The girl’s presence lingered, a promise that something was about to change.
