AN ART OF DREAMS: Where reality meets fantasy
Ashwood, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of the countryside, awakened with the gentle warmth of sunrise. Soft, golden light crept over the rolling hills, casting a serene glow over the quaint streets and charming homes. The air was crisp and clean, filled with the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers and the distant chirping of birds.
In a beautiful house on Elm Street, the Morales family residence stood as a testament to warmth and love. The elegant, two-story home was adorned with lush greenery and vibrant flowers, creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere.
Upstairs, in her cozy bedroom, Ava Morales lay snuggled under the plush blankets of her bed. A twenty-year-old beauty with a passion for art, Ava was a bright and adventurous soul. Her rich, dark brown hair cascaded down her back in loose waves, framing her heart-shaped face and bright, expressive eyes. As she slowly opened her eyes, the warm sunlight streaming through her window danced across her face, greeting her to a brand-new day.
Ava stretched, yawned, and swung her legs over the side of the bed, the soft, fluffy rug beneath her feet welcoming her to a new day. A day that marked the beginning of her final year at Ashwood Elite High School. Ava's heart skipped a beat as she thought about the endless possibilities and exciting memories that lay ahead.
She headed to the bathroom, where she indulged in a refreshing bath, feeling the warm water wash away any lingering sleepiness. As she got dressed, Ava's eyes landed on the colourful tattoos of paintbrushes on her right wrist, a symbol of her passion for art. She smiled, remembering the day she got them.
Around her neck, she wore a delicate silver necklace with a tiny paintbrush pendant, a gift from her Abuela. Ava's Abuela, a talented artist herself, had been Ava's inspiration and mentor.
With a sense of calm and creativity, Ava made her way to her own studio, eager to spend some time working on her art before the day's excitement began. As she entered her studio, Ava was greeted by the familiar scent of paint and turpentine. Canvases of various sizes lined the walls, each one a testament to her creativity.
In the centre of the room, a large easel held her latest project: a painting of a mysterious girl with raven-black hair and porcelain skin. The girl's eyes seemed to follow Ava as she moved around the room, drawing her in with an otherworldly allure.
Ava's thoughts drifted back to the dream she had a few nights ago, where she saw this same girl standing in a moonlit garden, surrounded by vibrant flowers that seemed to shimmer and glow. The dream had left a lasting impression on Ava, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that the girl was trying to tell her something.
Without thinking, Ava had stepped into her studio the next morning and began painting. The brushstrokes flowed effortlessly, as if guided by an unseen force. Colours blended and swirled on the canvas, taking shape as the mysterious girl. Ava remembered feeling a shiver run down her spine as the girl's eyes began to take form, seeming to gaze straight into Ava's soul.
As she stood before the painting now, Ava felt that same shiver. Who was this girl, and why did Ava feel such a deep connection to her? She couldn't wait to uncover the secrets hidden within the painting and to see where her art would take her next.
As Ava was trying to add the final touches to the girl's eye, her mom, Maria, called out to her from downstairs. "¡Ava, despierta! ¡Baja pronto, que vas a llegar tarde a la escuela!" (Ava, wake up! Come down quickly, you're going to be late for school!)
Ava glanced at the clock on her studio wall and gasped. She was running behind schedule. Quickly, she cleaned her brushes and put away her paints, and she stepped out of her studio and headed to the dining. The dining room table was a beautiful, dark wood adorned with a vibrant centrepiece of fresh flowers. The table was set with a delicious spread of breakfast foods: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and freshly baked pastries. Her mom had outdone herself.
As Ava entered the dining room, she was greeted by the warm smile of her mom, Maria. Maria, an Italian woman with long, curly brown hair and bright hazel eyes, stood over the kitchen counter, expertly flipping pancakes. Her olive-toned skin glowed with a warm radiance, and her bright red lipstick added a pop of colour to her elegant features.
Ava's dad, Carlos, a Mexican man with a strong jawline and piercing brown eyes, sat at the dining table, sipping a cup of coffee. His dark hair was flecked with grey, and his warm smile made Ava feel at ease. He wore a crisp white shirt and a pair of dark jeans, exuding an air of quiet confidence.
"Good morning, Mom! Good morning, Dad!" Ava exclaimed, dropping her backpack on the floor.
"Buenos días, m'ija!" Carlos replied, his deep voice warm and welcoming.
Ava walked over to her dad and pecked him on the cheek. "I love you, Dad."
Maria turned around from the kitchen counter, a spatula in hand. "How excited are you for your first day of senior year, sweetie?" she asked, her Italian accent musical and soothing.
"I'm super excited, Mom! I've been counting down the days until school starts," Ava replied, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "I'm really looking forward to my senior year, and I'm already thinking about college applications. I've been researching some amazing art programs, and I'm hoping to get into one of my top choices."
Carlos smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "That's our ambitious Ava! We're proud of you, m'ija."
Maria nodded, her expression warm. "We know you'll do great things, sweetie. You've always had a passion for art, and we're excited to see where it takes you."
Ava grinned, feeling a surge of excitement. "Thanks, guys! I'm also really looking forward to seeing Sophie today. I've missed her so much over the break. Did I tell you that she went to Europe with her parents?"
Carlos raised an eyebrow. "Europe, eh? That sounds like an amazing adventure. I'm sure Sophie will have some fantastic stories to share."
Ava nodded, her eyes shining with anticipation.
"I know, right? I've been dying to hear all about her trip. We're going to have so much to catch up on!"
As Ava spoke, her mind began to wander to her latest art project. She couldn't wait to tell Sophie about the painting of the mysterious girl who had been captivating her imagination.
"In her mind, Ava thought, "I have to show Sophie the painting. She's going to freak out when she sees it. There's something about this girl... the way she seems to gaze right through me, the way her eyes seem to hold a secret. I feel... drawn to her. Like, really drawn to her. It's weird because I've never felt this way about a girl before. I mean, I
I'm straight. I even have a boyfriend, but... ugh, I don't know. This is all so confusing. But at the same time, it's like... I'm curious. I'm really curious. About what it would be like to... to kiss her, to touch her. Whoa, Ava, slow down. What is wrong with you? Just as Ava's thoughts were getting more and more tangled, her mom, Maria, interrupted her reverie by placing a steaming plate of breakfast in front of her.
"Here you go, sweetie! Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and freshly baked pastries. Your favourite!" Maria said with a warm smile.
Ava's dad, Carlos, chimed in, "Come on, m'ija! Hurry up and eat. London is waiting outside to take you to school."
Ava nodded, feeling a flush rise to her cheeks as she pushed aside her confusing thoughts. She took a bite of her breakfast, savouring the delicious flavours and textures.
"Thanks, Mom. This is amazing!" Ava said, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil brewing inside her. Here's the continuation:
Ava rushed through her meal, trying to finish as quickly as possible. She was just taking her last bite when her sister, Attracta, stormed into the dining room, excitement radiating from her very pores.
Attracta, 16 years old and full of energy, had curly brown hair that bounced with each step. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she exclaimed, "Guys, guys! Guess what?!" Her smooth, olive-toned skin glowed with a warm radiance, and her bright smile could light up a room.
"Guys, guys! Guess what?!" Attracta exclaimed, hardly able to contain her enthusiasm. "I just got a text from Rachel, and she's having a party tonight to celebrate the start of school! Can I go, please?!"
Maria and Carlos exchanged a sceptical glance, and Maria said, "Attracta, honey, we don't know if that's a good idea. You're still young, and we don't want you staying out too late."
Attracta's face fell, but Ava jumped in to defend her sister. "Come on, Mom and Dad! Attracta's 16 now, and she's responsible. It's just a party to celebrate the start of school. All her friends will be there."
Carlos raised an eyebrow. "And what about supervision? Who's going to be chaperoning this party?"
Ava thought quickly. "I'm sure Rachel's parents will be there. And I can even go with her, if you want. That way, you'll know she's safe."
Maria and Carlos looked at each other, then back at Attracta, who was watching them with hopeful eyes. Finally, Maria nodded. "Okay, fine. You can go to the party, but you have to promise to be home by 10 pm, and Ava will go with you to make sure you're safe."
Attracta squealed with excitement, hugging Ava tightly. "Thanks, Ava! You're the best!"
"Attracta, aren't you forgetting something? You're going to be late for school!" Carlos asked?
Attracta's eyes widened in panic as she realized she had forgotten her backpack. "Oh no! My backpack!"
She rushed inside, leaving Ava and Carlos chuckling on the porch. "I'll get it, I'll get it!" Attracta yelled, her voice fading as she disappeared into the house.
Ava shook her head, smiling. "I guess someone's a little excited about school today."
Carlos chuckled, putting a hand on Ava's shoulder. "Well, let's get going. London is waiting."
Ava and Attracta stepped out of the house, joining Carlos on the porch. "Okay, girls, have a great day at school!" Carlos called out as they walked towards the driveway.
Their driver, London, was waiting for them by the car. He was a tall, imposing figure with a shaved head and a kind smile. His warm, brown eyes crinkled at the corners as he greeted the girls.
"Good morning, ladies! Ready for school?" London asked, his deep voice rumbling.
Ava and Attracta nodded in unison, handing over their backpacks. London took them with a smile, stowing them away in the trunk of the car.
"Senior high, here you come, Ava!" London said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Are you ready for the challenge?"
Ava rolled her eyes good-naturedly.
London chuckled, opening the back door of the car. "Well, in that case, let's get you to school. hop in, ladies"
The girls climbed into the back seat, settling in for the ride to school. London closed the door behind them, giving Carlos a nod before getting into the driver's seat.
With a smooth purr of the engine, the car glided out of the driveway and onto the street.
As they sped away from the house, Ava's mind began to wander back to her studio, where the mysterious girl's painting waited. She pictured the girl's enigmatic smile, her piercing green eyes, and the soft, golden light that seemed to emanate from her very presence.
Lost in thought, Ava barely noticed as the car zoomed off , heading to school.
