Captain Maynard had to make a decision and fast. If the voice was being truthful with their warning, then the Marines she had ferried here were in danger. If not and she acted accordingly, then she would be responsible for the target getting away with the missiles.
Either way it seemed that her mission here was doomed to failure one way or the other. She chose the option where her men would be safe.
“Contact the Marines and order them to retreat. I want them to return here now. Tell them the base is about to blow, that should spur the ground pounders along a bit,” she said.
“Copy that sir,” ops replied.
“I want all sensors looking for that stolen ship. We know what her signature is, I don’t want it getting away, is that clear?” she said, her jaw set firm in determination.
