Captain Greene returned to the Devlin and went straight to the bridge, where Captain Maynard was waiting for his report.
“What happened down there, Captain?” he ranted as he stormed through the doors.
“We had information that proved to be accurate so I decided to follow it and pull you out before you were all killed,” she replied.
That rocked the young captain back on his heels. “We saw the explosion as we were leaving the atmosphere but I never connected it to our away mission,” he said.
“That explosion was the base being destroyed. The blast radius was over a mile wide. If you had remained down there a few minutes longer you would have been caught up in it.”
Greene nodded his head and a little shamefacedly said, “In that case then, sir, we owe you our lives.”
