Chapter 1 : The Deal Beneath the Blood Moon
Over two hundred years ago…
In the middle of the night, a beautiful woman with red flowing hair, dressed in a white royal dress, appeared to be in distress as she ran through a hollowed-out tree in a forest that got more peculiar the longer she passed through. Tears streaked down her face, her chest heaving with emotion.
She seemed unfazed by the darkness of the night or the forest's appearance as she moved with precision, like she had one goal in mind. Even when sheets of rain suddenly started falling, soaking her garment and making the ground muddy and more difficult to navigate as she slogged along.
She looked straight ahead and, a while later, let out a sigh of relief when she saw a cave nearby. It was dark, but it was a shelter. And it was also the place she'd been searching for.
She carefully climbed the rocky foundation and entrance to the pitch black cave, stopping right in front of it before she spoke in a strong and confident voice that didn't give away the fact that she'd been crying her eyes out not so long ago, “My name is Thea Farnsworth and I was adviced to come here if I needed assistance with anything grave."
"Thea Farnsworth,” a deep voice echoed through the cave, like it was coming from every direction of the cave, as it reiterated. "Do you know who I am?”
"Yes,” Thea whispered. "Your name is Lilith.”
"Correct. However, do you know what I am?”
Thea took a deep breath before answering calmly, sure of herself, "You're a demon.”
"Are you willing to risk it? Asking help from a vile creature like me?”
Thea shook her head. She’d been told enough stories about the demon to know that it- she- can help her. “I came all the way to find you so that you'd help me save my mate. I know what you are, and I don't care about what your price is. I just want him not to die," Thea's voice shook as she responded, her legs weakly giving up to fall on the ground. She was tired from walking for so long, willing to give anything to make her effort not go in vain.
“Hmm…”
With heavy breath, she raised her head, disheveled as she saw a light in the cave. That was her response, and Thea felt her heart lighten a bit at that as she slowly got up from the ground to follow the light, safe from the wrath of the rain.
Inside wasn't really warm, but it felt nice to be away from the cold wind and raindrops that soaked through her dress. Thea quietly followed the light that appeared to be guiding her way, unafraid. She couldn't see much around her, but it was safe to say that she knew what a cave looked like, and it wasn't anything fancy. It was dark and rocky, however… she did feel a certain amount of… dark power the longer she walked. Her eyes had adjusted to the little light as she stepped into a doorway.
There was a lamp on the wall, and that was it. However, the main attraction was the dark hooded figure seated in the middle of the large room, eyes closed for a moment before it snapped open, revealing large, bright, and piercing purple eyes. Thea instantly knew who it was because there was no being on earth that'd have such polarizing eye color except for a demon.
“Thea Farnsworth," Lilith spoke, voice devoid of emotion. “Welcome."
The room looked like a study, with books everywhere, bottles filled with different colors of liquid, and heads of different animals on the wall as decorations. Two extra-large tables held other extra things, each by the side of the room, giving much space to Lilith's throne. The purple-eyed being took off her hoodie to reveal shockingly gray skin that had black marks on her face, with hair that was a mixture of white on one side and black on the other. Thea briefly glanced at her feet, surprised to see her barefoot, with claws for toes.
“So you’re here because your mate is dying,” Lilith remarked, getting Thea out of her thoughts.
“How do you know?" Thea asked, shocked.
Lilith shrugged. “It doesn't matter how I know; what matters is if you're truly willing to do anything to save him like you claimed. No matter the consequences."
“I don't care about the consequences, I just want you to save him," Thea cried as she went to her knees. “Please," she begged brokenly.
Lilith nodded, still expressionless as she spoke, "You are mates, so you don't really have to bring anything for me to connect to him. I just need your blood.”
She turned away from her and passed through a dark doorway close by and came out with a bowl, some tulips, and a large book with a black cover which seemed to have no name.
“I want you to sign this with your blood,” the gray-skinned being said, handing her the bowl as she opened the book to an empty page after placing it on a table.
“May I ask a question?" Thea began, staring at the fascinating being before her with curious yet somewhat fearful eyes. “What are the flowers for?"
“White tulips represent new beginnings, while the red ones usually have to do with royalty, of which you are. Flowers are important when it comes to delicate things like this,” Lilith revealed. “Death can only be prevented with the help of living things."
“This doesn't sound like something a demon would be interested in," Thea said in wonder as she eyed her surroundings.
"Witches are not made out of thin air, nor are the entirety of supernatural beings… all witches have semblances of demon energy and magic in them. And so do you,” the demon scorned.
“What about the lamp?" Thea asked again when Lilith reached out for an unlit lamp.
“You'll see soon," Lilith simply said.
They remained in silence as Lilith took her blood after Thea signed the book. But then, the lamp was brought towards Thea, who instantly started to feel herself getting dizzy, and before she could ask what was going on, she fell to the floor.
“Don’t worry,” Lilith placated when she saw her struggling on the floor, "your mate will be fine. And so will you. Eventually."
Thea wanted to scream, but she couldn't do anything. She was utterly powerless, and she remained so until she blacked out.
