Darius didn't care about romance nor did he want it. He had money and that all he'd ever need. That is until he met the sharp-mouth 5ft 5 firecracker of a waitress that stood up to his 6ft 3 frame with such confidence that it was etched in his mind. He had to have her. And she wanted nothing to do with him.

Chapter one
New job. New city. New friends. That was Thia's aim as she stepped into her apartment. She grew up in the country, so the bustling city was a bit overwhelming. Closing the door, she kneeled down to untie her red sneakers. Padding softly to the window, drawing the curtains, outside, the view of the brightly-lit city greeted her. Cars flew by and pedestrians shuffled on their way. Smiling as a sense of independence washed over her, she reached for her phone. "Girl, finally!" a feminine shriek sounded from the phone. Thia laughed. "Ana, I'm sorry the flight got delayed." she told her best friend Ana, who was currently squealing like a schoolgirl at the other end of the line. "That's besides the point right now. How is the apartment small? Are there any cute guys in Paris? How was the driving?" she asked in one breath. Thia mentally face palmed herself. Ana wanted to come to Paris with her but her university course got pushed back a few months so they agreed for her to come in a few months. "The apartment is fairly medium," Thia said as she toured the living room, kitchen and stepped into her bedroom dragging the heavy suitcase, "I dont know about any cute guys, I just got here and the drive was short from the airport to here." Parking the suitcase into the nearest corner she sprawled out on the bed. "The cab driver, however, didn't speak a word of English. Thankfully, I've been practicing my French." "I'm so excited." Ana beamed, "I seriously cannot wait to get there. Imagine we are gonna be working together and living together!" Thia giggled. They had always planned to move to a new city together to work and live together since they were like eight when Ana's parents took in Thia after her mom died. "I cannot wait either. Paris is so different from home. " Thia pointed out, "There are so many people and cars. I'm even scared of going to work tomorrow, everything is so big." Ana laughed. "It's not that bad Thia, you're overreacting. In a few months I'll be there and we can go sightseeing together. How about that, mhm?" "I'd love that I miss you so much already." Thia said thankfully. Her best friend always knew what to cheer her up. "Now get some rest. You have a new job tomorrow. You gotta be bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and early!" Thia laughed. "Alright fine. I'll go to bed. I love you bestie." "I love you more, girlfriend. Goodnight and good luck for tomorrow!" Hanging up, Thia tossed her clothes on the floor, making a mental note to take them up in the morning. Setting the alarm for seven am, she snuggled into the soft duvet and drifted off to sleep, her last thought being how excited she was for tomorrow. The alarm cut through the surreal dream Thia was having of home, making her bolt upright. Fetching her phone she saw it was past seven thirty am. She had slept through her initial alarm, jumping up from the bed, she dashed to the bathroom, quickly brushed her teeth and hopped in the shower. The warm water cascaded over her but she hadn't got time to bask in the feeling. She scrubbed her body from head to toe and dashed to her room, drying off on the way. She pulled out her suitcase and proceeded to throw clothes out of it, trying to find a suitable first-day outfit. Groaning, she chose a knee-length skirt and a floral print button-up blouse. Dabbing on some light make-up, she was out the door in record time. It was around eight thirty am when Thia stepped into Hotel Eden's lobby, making her way to the adjoining restaurant. Her coworkers were already there in their uniform bustling about the busy restaurant. She headed towards the host station. "Hi," she said in her best French, "I'm looking for assistant manager Lavigne." The girl eyed her with a look of disdain. "Elle n'est pas ici." She drawled. Thia stared at her in confusion, her thick French accent made it difficult for her to understand. "I'm sorry what?" Thia asked. The girl rolled her eyes, clicking her tongue in annoyance. "What do you want?" she hissed in English. "We are busy!" What was her problem? Thia thought. She repeated her question this time in English. Just then a familiar voice called out, "Mon cher?!" Thia turned to see her aunt waddling towards her in her manager uniform atire, a burgundy blouse and black pants, her four-inch black heels clicked on the tiled floor as she hurried over. "Why didn't you call me when you came in? You are late. How are you late on your first day? Hurry to the back so you can change and get to your designated section." Her aunt said, ushering her towards the back of the restaurant.
