BANJO WAS UP AT 04:00 from the force of habit. He showered and dressed for a workout. When he collected his smartphone on the way out the door, he felt an urge within himself to check his emails, which wasn’t a regular part of his early morning routine. There was a message from Andy. It only said: “Hi, just wanted to let you know that I miss you.”
He emailed back: “I knew you’d miss me ‘cause I’m special.”
Her quick retort was: “Yeah, special needs!”
It made him laugh. He was reminded to give her his number. “Here’s my number. Call me anytime.”
She replied: “Here’s mine, call me anytime.”
That was all the encouragement he needed. He saved her number in his contact list under ‘Baby’ and hit the call icon on the touch screen. He was already pounding the pavement when Andy answered.
