I’m sitting in one of the chairs where students normally sit. I’ve got my grading sheets in front of me and the students broken up into six groups of four. Group three just finished sight-singing for their final.
“Everyone’s been doing great,” I tell them. “Remember, even if you think you’re wrong, sing loudly. We need to be able to hear you.”
The door to the choir room opens. Caroline and Bart enter the classroom. Caroline beckons me over while Bart whispers something in Liz’s ear.
“We need to have a word outside,” Caroline tells me, and my heart sinks. I think I’m about to lose my job.
“Okay, everyone, I’m just going to be a minute. Liz, will you take over for the next group?”
