Betty woke with a sharp, splitting pain behind her eyes. It hit her all at once, dizziness, pressure and a pulsing ache that made her stomach roll. She sucked in a breath and squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the room to steady. The air smelled unfamiliar. It was clean and lacked the lived in scent of her friend’s apartment. Slowly, she pushed herself upright, bracing her weight on her elbows. The movement sent another wave of vertigo through her, but she forced her eyes open anyway. That was when she saw him.
