Betty stood just outside the iron gates, her chest heaving. The cool night air hit her skin, but it didn’t help. She could still feel the heat of the argument crawling up her neck. Her phone felt slick in her hand as she pulled up the rideshare app. Her thumb shook, missing the "confirm" button twice before she finally got the request through. She wrapped her arms tight across her stomach. The anger was still there, heavy and raw under her ribs. It wasn’t the kind of anger that made her want to scream anymore.
