I was asleep in my bed; I knew it, just like I knew it was past midnight, and I was standing at Piko Point on the lava outcrop that divided Keikikai and Nalupuki beaches. Disoriented, I looked toward the hill where Char Siu and I flew 'Iolani that afternoon, and, for a second, I saw two images superimposed—one with the pavilion above the beach and one without it.
Make it stop!
The pavilion disappeared, revealing Hari’s store clearly across the road from the beach. The sign was different and the big mango tree was smaller, but I could see a light on in Uncle Kahana’s upstairs apartment.
What an odd dream.
