Chapter One
Monday was like any other normal days in Florence, full of sunshine and promise, until a lady at 28 Watson Street apartments discovered a dead body.
Lysander was walking to the school when he passed by the police cars hovered outside the apartment.
It wasn't his intention to meddle with things he has nothing to do with, he was about to leave when he overheard the cops.
"It was a murder, the victim was shot in the head." Said the first police,
"Clearly an open and shoot case, she was facing the door when she collapsed by the window."replied the second one,
Upon hearing 'murder', he became interested. It piqued his curiosity so he tried checking if he know someone from these cops walking around and guarding the perimeter.
To his disappointment, none of them recognized him nor he do.
So he thought of plan B.
"Looks like I'm gonna be late for History." He shrugged,
Nah, this case is more fun, he thought.
He just have to solve this then run his a*s off to school.
Thanks to his unmatched stealthiness, he was able to sneak inside. He quickly managed to find the crime scene before the cops saw him.
The acrid smell of dried blood mixed with somewhat a scent of fabric detergent welcomed him. His eyes roamed from the old sofa to the rotating window where the body lay under it.
Looks like forensic analysts already arrived to examine the scene, they were so busy that nobody noticed his trespassing.
"Lysander, what are you doing here?"
A fat man in a police uniform approached him, 'twas Inspector Freud.
"I hear it was a murder so I came in." Said he nonchalantly,
"Very well, I owe you last murder case so I'll let you slip." Inspector laughed and so did he,
They were good colleagues, despite their ages.
"Any information bout the victim?"
"Her name's Era Lefranc, 25, she lives alone cause her parents are dead. It was a shot in her left forehead that killed her. Estimated time of death is within 10:30 to 11 pm, based on her rigor mortis. People nearby said they did'nt hear any gunshot."
"Must be a silencer, what kind of g*n is it?"
He examined the gunshot wound without touching it or else it'll contaminate the possible evidence.
"Hmm, a pistol. Any suspects?"
"There's only one suspect, Lander Moschino. He's her boyfriend, he was the last one to visit Era's apartment at 9 pm to 10 pm. He's now in our custody for questioning."
Lysander studied the victims position, a gruesome sight, it was leaning on the wall under the rotating window. Blood splattered.
A phone on her left hand caught his attention.
"She has a phone on her hand. She might be on her phone before the murder."
Inspector nodded,
"Check the call logs, there must be a lead there." Ordered he,
Two of them walked out of the crime scene to question the suspect. There were six of them inside the borrowed room.
The one who called 911, the one who saw the body, 2 other cops, Inspector Freud, and himself.
"Inspector, what is a student doing here?"
asked the bald police,
He was in his 40's. With his mustache and fat body, he looked cocky as he snickered.
"His skills are handy, we may need him." Ins. Freud shot back,
"But this case is closed! He's the killer!" The cop pointed at the handcuffed man,
"What's your proof then?"
"He was the only one who visited the victim within 10 pm!" He responded impatiently,
How foolish, a police should be calm in any circumstances or else emotions will cloud his logic.
Lysander coughed, letting every one know his presence.
"Is that all?"
He looked at him,
"A mere kid has nothing to do with this! You don't know what you're doing kiddo." The cop snickered,
He smirked and crossed his arms,
"It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly, one begins to twist facts to suit theories instead of theories suit to facts. Holmes once said."
Indeed, a mere conclusion driven by a single fact could not make up an accurate deduction.
He glanced at Kezaiah, the one who first saw the body.
"Is your window similar to the victim's?" Asked he,
"Y-yes, why'd you asked?"
He didn't respond,
He turned to the alleged suspect,
"Did you call the victim after you left?"
"No. I swear, I couldn't have killed her!"
"Alright, don't worry we'll uncover this clever trick the culprit executed."
Lander sighed, he knew he was in grief of his girl's death.
"One more thing, was she doing laundry before or after you came?"
"Yeah, she continued her laundry when I left."
So that's why. However, if she's doing the laundry, why did she went to the window when the culprit knocked at the door? She should've opened the door for him.
Could it be,
"Miss Kezaiah, did you by chance called her?" He could see her tensed by his sudden question,
"A-Are you saying that I'm a suspect here?! I was the one who found the body!"
"No need to over react madame, were just looking at every angle there is." Inspector explained,
Now I know who's the real culprit. The question is, how did the killer deliver that clever trick?
"I will ask you once again, miss Kezaiah.
Did you called her?"
"N-No, I didn't!"
She was sweating bullets,
I grinned, checkmate Kezaiah.
"I think it's time for the most awaited deduction show."
Everybody was silent, the tensed atmosphere makes him excited.
He's having adrenaline rush because of this case.
The mustached police tsked,
"Make sure you'll guess the right killer, kid."
"Please, officer. Guess is a mere conclusion without considering facts. I prefer hypothesis, a deduction based from solid facts." He leaned on the wall,
"The culprit is no other than, Kezaiah. The one who found the body." He pointed at Kezaiah, who looked surprised and terrified.
"H-How dare you pin point me! I didn't enter her unit yesterday!"
"What a clever trick you have there! You must've planned it well!"
He sarcastically joked,
"What's your proof, Lysander?" Inspector Freud asked,
"The culprit did not need to enter her unit to kill her, at first people would think that way considering her position. However, if you would check the blood splatter carefully, you could see that the splatter only stained the rotating window but not it's window frame nor the wall."
He continued,
"Kezaiah's window is just above the victim's.Therefore, she shoot her when her head was stuck out the rotating window. You can check the concrete pathway where the bullet hit."
One of the police went to check the bullet hole on the ground.
"But how did she made her peek on the window?" The cop asked,
"They were friends, that's what she said when you asked her why did she went to the victim's room and found our her dead body right?"
Inspector nodded and he continued,
"That's why I asked them if they called her, she was on her phone when she died."
"You're mistaken! He's setting me up!!" She desperately pointed at Lander.
But nobody listened to her, they were busy digesting the deduction.
"Perhaps you called her, saying you'll jump off the apartment. By that trick you managed to make her stuck her head out, is that it?"
"Hah! What's your proof?! You can't just arrest me without a solid proof!"
"Kezaiah, you've planned such clever trick. Yet, nothing's exquisite in this world. Every cunning plan has a flaw, and your flaw is that you never thought of turning off your phone."
He took her phone from her,
"If I press this button, this will redial the last number you called. Are you ready, Kezaiah?"
Lysander smirked and pressed the redial button.
Silence filled the room as the victim's phone rang.
"Will you still deny it, Kezaiah?"
She looked at him and broke down in tears.
"It was her fault! She told me we'll be together forever but when she got herself a boyfriend I was left alone! It's her fault! It's her fault!" She sounded crazy, repeating the same words over and over.
Inspector Freud called the other cops and Kezaiah was arrested while Lander was free.
"Very well, my duty here has come to an end. I have to disperse from here, adios Inspector Freud." He bid goodbye to the Inspector before departing from the building,
On his way, he was stopped by that cocky mustached police.
"You're not just an ordinary student are you?" Asked he,
He continued walking without looking back at him,
"No, Sire. I'm a mere kid, just one hell of a student."
