Maria’s Point of View
I turned around slowly and faced Hilda Thompson with a smile on my face, despite the anger I felt towards her for what she did to me four years ago. "What did I do? I didn't do anything, Missus Thompson."
"Stop lying! I saw you push Reina! What are you doing here? Are you here to cause trouble again?!" she shouted at me.
I looked at Reina, still struggling to get up and now being helped by the servants. As soon as she managed to stand, she gave me a sharp look as if she wanted to kill me and quickly moved closer to Hilda. "Yes, aunty! I'm sure that woman is up to something again!"
Hilda glared at me darkly as she continued, "You are still low-class, Maria! An uncultured and worthless woman! A bad woman! How could you hurt Reina when she did nothing to you!"
In an instant, Reina burst into tears while hugging herself. "I didn't do anything to her and I was just asking her what she was doing here but..." she sobbed. "She pushed me into the fountain, aunty. I just want to confirm if this is because of the scandal..."
"Speaking of that, I'm sure you're the one spreading it! What do you need this time? You're probably planning to ruin our family again!" Hilda gritted her teeth.
I stared at Hilda with a cold gaze, fixating on her with an icy stare. If it were before, I would have been even more hurt. Because back then, she treated me like an animal, not a human being. All I did was serve her in order for her to accept me as her daughter-in-law, but in the end, all I received was betrayal.
The one who set up the cheating and kicked me out of this house. Now, I have no reason to pretend to be kind anymore. "Missus Thompson, if I have a plot against your family, shouldn't it be justified since your family owes me a lot?"
"I see! You're still delusional and greedy! You want to ruin my son because you didn't get anything from him before!"
She raised her hand and before I could dodge or react, her hand landed forcefully on my cheek. My eyes widened and as I looked at her, she was about to deliver another slap, but I stopped her hand and stared at her angrily.
"What right do you have to hurt me?" I asked her as I gritted my teeth. "Kairo and I were already divorced, so I won't let you get away with hurting me! Try it again and I'll make sure you find what you're looking for!"
Hilda took two steps back in fear, her eyes showing her terror. "Y-You... You shameless uneducated woman! Just like your uneducated mother--"
It felt like my ears were ringing from what I heard, and because of that, I delivered two strong slaps to both of Hilda's cheeks. I wasn't satisfied yet, so I gave her another powerful slap and pushed her away from me.
Her eyes widened while Reina panicked and screamed. "M-Maria! You! What did you do, aunty?!" She quickly rushed to Hilda and held onto her cheeks. "A-Aunty, are you okay?"
Hilda quickly recovered and pointed at me. Her cheeks were red from the slaps I gave her, clearly visible against her milky white complexion, but they turned even redder due to her anger. She pointed at me and shouted, "How dare you?!"
"Sorry not sorry, Missus Thompson. I may be kind to the kind, but I can be a demon to the demons," I coldly replied. "Didn't you often hurt me when I was still married to Kairo? Many times. Be grateful that this is all I did to you. But I consider it as repayment for the pain you caused me. From now on, I will see to it that you owe me nothing and I owe you nothing as well. We're even."
"You... You, b***h!" she angrily pointed at me.
"What? I am no longer your daughter-in-law whom you can hurt and speak to in any way you want. If I were you, I would watch my words, because rude language doesn't sound good coming from an elite like you," I said as I walked past them, knowing that staying here would only be a waste of my time.
But after a few steps, Hilda quickly pulled me back, causing me to return to my spot.
"You can't leave here, Maria! After what you've done!" Hilda shouted again and turned to her bodyguards. "Stop her!"
"Just try, Missus Thompson! You won't like what I'll do!" I threatened her coldly.
"What can you do?" Reina smirked.
I shot a cold glare at her and smirked back before turning my full attention to Hilda. "Have you forgotten how you both mistreat and bully me? I have video evidence of how you hurt me, and it's in the hands of my friends! Just try me! The family name you're protecting, you'll be the one to ruin it for sure!"
She and Reina exchanged glances while the guards hesitated to touch me. When Hilda refocused her attention on me, there was a hint of fear mixed with her aggressive demeanor.
As silence filled our space, I adjusted my bag on my shoulder and gave Hilda and Reina another threatening look. "You have no idea what I'm capable of now, Missus Thompson. Try me, and you'll see your toxic personality all over the internet!"
I walked towards the gate to leave, my heart pounding with a mix of anger. I was no longer the Maria Hills they knew. I was no longer the weak Maria.
It had been a week since no one had bothered me again. Kairo hadn't reached out either because, as we agreed, we wouldn't be involved with each other anymore.
