As her eyes adjusted, she spotted the outline of a table and threw herself underneath it, skidding along rough wooden floorboards just as someone crashed down into the space where she’d been with a groan. She listened in the dark, trying to make sense of what was happening, frightened but with faith in her companion. The fight only lasted a few moments but she heard screams, shouts and then a frantic hushing from Harik as he tried to maintain order in the panic, before there was a clash of blades and a hiss of indrawn air. When the large man fell, he made the floorboards bounce. The skirmish came an abrupt end. Nothing to hear except sobs, groans and frantic, frightened gasps. She felt Rhyode’s hand on hers. Relieved, she clasped his fingers and let him pull her out from under the table.
