Price of War
The court room felt cold to Matt as the Judge Advocate of the Court marshall said " All rise " everyone stood until the judge took his seat. The judge gave Matt a Death stare as he ordered him to stand.
"Are you ready for your sentencing" I looked at the judge dead in his eyes " yes I am ".
" For disobeying A direct order from your commanding officer which resulted in the death of three Iraq locals you are to be dishonorably discharged and serve six months in Leavenworth. "
as I was escorted out of the Court room I looked over at my fiance crying and my body turned numb.
on the bus ride to the prison I could only imagine how Susan was feeling. She now has to deal with six months without me and also will have to leave our home on base.
I do know she is strong enough to handle this situation I put us in.
The bus pulls into the prison and my stomach begins to turn as if I am about to raid a house. when I step out of the bus the wind smells of despair. I noticed one inmate standing by the fence is giving me a look that pierces through my soul.
After the in processing I was escorted to my cell and to my surprise it was all to myself. It's a good thing because I do not get along with most people. It was time for dinner Chow so I got my food and sat down by myself.
the same prisoner who looked at me with those soulless eyes walks over to me.
" hello Mathew."
Matt looks up at him with a glare and remains silent.
" don't fret, I'm a friend."
"I have no friends and if I did you definitely wouldn't be one of them."
Matt stands up and starts to walk away. two other inmates get in his way stoping him.
" No one walks away from me, if they know what's good for them."
Matt turns around looking deep into the darkness of the man's eyes.
" I don't need this shit."
" what's the problem here." A prison guard says as he walks up.
Matt looks around, " nothing at all I was just heading back to my cell " The guard snickers," No I think you're heading to the hole for a month."
