Chapter 1
Aurora's POV
"More shots, bar man!" I shouted, trying to get myself drunk. I was probably already drowning in the misery of getting divorced. In all honesty, the whole thing was my fault. I shouldn't even have let myself get that attached, with knowledge that this day would come.
The bar man filled my shot glasses with Whiskey. I drank up again, still not feeling tipsy.
"There has to be an amount of misery one would have that would make them immune to alcohol!" I muttered.
Earlier that day...
I sat across the table in Kai's mansion, staring into space. I had totally zoned out from the words the family's lawyer spoke. My marriage to Kai wasn't a perfect one, it never was. But I had come to enjoy it very much. I fell so in love that I forgot that our marriage was a contract marriage. I got so comfortable in the life of a man that wouldn't even keep me. A man that's in love with another. A biker.
"Aurora, are you listening?" The lawyer, Mr Finn, hit the table gently, drawing me back to the present.
My eyes fell on Kai, sitting on the other side of the table. His black hair laid lazily around his absolutely perfect face. He always wore the tough guy look, but anytime his blue eyes rest on me just like they were now, everything always felt different.
"Oh, I'm all ears." I said, clasping my fingers and stealing glances at Kai who never took them off me for once.
We had been married for two years as planned not long after I met Kai. He needed to get married to take over his father's position as the president of the Bloodhorn BC. Everything happened so fast that I can't even properly remember the details, or I don't want to.
"So, Aurora, you get to leave with a whooping hundred grand as stated in this contract and everyone gets to move on." Mr Finn said, smiling from ear to ear.
"Can we just get this over with already?" Kai asked, sounding very impatient. His voice was coarse.
"I never thought you'd be this hasty to get rid of me." I spat softly, only further revealing how attached I had become to Kai.
"You know it's not like that." Kai said, taking deep breaths.
"It's alright, Kai." I said, forcing a smile. "You really don't owe me an explanation."
I signed the remaining agreements I had to sign to properly dissolve our marriage and I was done with it. Being a lawyer, I went through the content of everything to make sure I wasn't being cheated in anyway. The grin on Mr Finn's face gave it away that he was getting a huge amount of money from this divorce. He would even get more from Kai's father, Luca, who never liked me.
"And so, it is done." Mr Finn said with a tone of finality.
I took a deep breath, sighing and nodding as the lawyer left. Luca and I sat still, just breathing and stealing glances at each other.
"Well, I guess..."
"Do you really..." we spoke simultaneously, stopping to let the other talk. Kai went quiet. He never goes quiet around me. Our conversations are hardly intimate but we always have them. Kai is the silent one when he's with the other bikers, he the silently dangerous president that no one dares cross.
"You go first." I said softly. Kai nodded, hitting his hand on the table carefully.
"Since this is actually happening," Kai started, "If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to come to me."
"Thank you." I forced a smile.
"You wanted to say something?"
I took a while to contemplate the words I'd say next. How do I tell him that I'm already in love with him? How do I tell him that I love the way he looks at me and I want to be with him for as long as I breathe?
"The thing is," I started, clearing my throat as the words fought to stay in there. "I think I'm already in...."
I had almost finished speaking when Lucia walked in.
Lucia Campbell. The girl Kai is in love with. He had met her way before he met me. The only reason why they didn't get married was because she was so far away from Chicago. Kai needed a bride and voila, a contract marriage.
I swallowed my words immediately. I would not let myself be ridiculed by another woman.
"I didn't realize that you're still around." Lucia said to me. There was a glint of disgust and hatred in her eyes. I ignored it for the better part of the two years Kai and I were married.
"I was just about to take my leave." I lashed, returning her look. Kai's eyes were on me the entire time. He did not speak, he did not move, he just kept looking at me. He might have zoned out already, but why would I bother?
I had already packed my bags up. I had ordered a ride already to get me out of here.
My phone rang almost immediately. My driver was outside already.
"My ride is here." I said, chuckling and forcing a smile. I fought back the tears that threatened to escape my eyes. I did not hold them so long just to break down now. I would not be the helpless girl that falls in love with a man that doesn't give two f***s about her. "Thank you for everything."
"Good riddance." Lucia said softly as I got to the door. It wasn't so soft as anyone with ears in the huge living room would have heard.
Kai hit his hand on the table and growled at her. That was one thing I always enjoyed in our marriage; his protection. He'd have a go at it with his vicious father anytime it had to do with me. That, I was extremely grateful for.
I waved at the driver and he helped me pack up my bags into the car. I took one last look at the grand house of the Macbells. My eyes fell on Vigor, Kai's favorite bike. He had only two; Vigor and Renegade. I let myself take in the beautiful sight once more. Vigor had the sign of the BC on it. A skull on a bike, and on the skull, a horn that had blood flowing out of it. Absolute beauty.
I turned back when the tears wanted to force their way out.
Definitely not today.
I sighed for the millionth time that day. The driver honked for me to get in. I was about opening the door when Kai's cold hands touched mine. I closed my eyes and took a deep sniff of his presence before chuckling nervously.
"Good bye, Aurora." Kai said, setting his blue eyes on me. I could see his chest heaving greatly. I guess the relief of having me gone must be really great.
"Good bye, Kai." I responded.
Present time...
"I'll have whatever the lady is having." Someone said, sitting on the stool close to me. I was about saying something abusive when he turned to look at me.
"Oh, what in the seven heavens is this beauty?" I muttered.
