Chapter 31He heard the key in the lock, tired feet stepping from scuffed shoes, his daughter’s voice from the hallway, and he lowered his cigarette from his lips, turning towards the door as it slid open and Genjo gazed upon the distraught figure not of his younger daughter, but of his older daughter, Meiko, still wearing her heavy duffel coat, one hand upon her swollen stomach, tears in her eyes.
